Killing time before the US-T&T game and I was thinking about the switches Tab can/will/should make after the first round.

He can make up to six and has a secret pool of 15 players from which to choose.

As for who is out, I am 99 percent sure all four NCAA players return to their college teams. The NCAA Tournament starts next week and there's a chance Indiana could be playing in the Big Ten final Sunday.
So I am assuming Manny Perez, Frankie Amaya, Griffin Dorsey and Justin Rennicks will take their leave later this week. (I wouldn't be surprised if some of them leave as early as after the St. Vincent and Grenadines game Wednesday depending on how the standings look. IU has a conference semifinal against Maryland Friday.)

I also think Julian Araujo will be replaced just get a bigger, older defender in there.

So that's five. I really am not sure who the sixth player will be? Would it be Ochoa to get an older GK, just in case?

Will it be Ayo Akinola, because he's so one-dimensional? Or Issac Angking, who has the least amount of international experience? Or even Uly Llanez, who is so much younger? I suspect injuries and availability of the replacements will play a role here.

    As for replacements...

I am assuming that, like Tyler Adams, Josh Sargent and Tim Weah will be with the senior team this month, though I'd have no issues including them if they are made available. But for now, I'm assuming they won't be.

I am trusting the veracity of Brian's reporting that Jon Amon will be coming and Dutch media reports have quoted Serginho Dest saying he's coming. Amon for Dorsey and Dest for Perez is a nice little upgrade.

Assuming their clubs release them, I think Chris Richards and Sebastian Soto will be coming. Richards for Araujo and Soto for Rennicks would also be a nice upgrade (not that either played badly so far).

So that's four. With Amaya gone, there's a void in the depth chart in central midfield and it would be nice to see Andrew Carleton there, assuming he's recovered from whatever knock he has. If he can't go, I'd see if Richie Ledezma is fit.

Finally, I bring in Chris Durkin. He can play either as a holding mid, he's got a lot of pro experience and he's available. Again, not sure who he'd replace, but I definitely find a spot for him.

Llanez is arguably the best player on the team so far, top three for sure. You probably need sub out 15 players ahead of him. Rennicks is way better than Akinola. If one of them stays that should be Rennicks.
Manny Perez, Frankie Amaya, Griffin Dorsey, Issac Angking, Akinola are easy choices.
Dest, Durkin, Soto, Richards, Amon are also easy. Not sure that Atlanta lets Carleton go even if he is fit. Think switching the back up keeper is a bad idea. If we get 5 guys above we just don't need anyone else.

You can’t pre-plan all 6 subs. You have to hold at least 2 for injuries or unexpected bad form

Would be nice if the original roster accounted for expected bad form.

I'm not ditching Rennicks after what I saw today. He was cheeky AF.

Bring in Soto for Akinola, Amon for Amaya, Dest for Araujo, Richards for Perez, Durkin for JPT, and Carleton for Dorsey.

If I can only bring 4 it's about availability. Carleton is probably least likely to be available because ATL should still be in the playoffs.

I'd really like to see what Soto, Richards, and Dest are made of at this level. Durkin may be required to control games against a better quality of opposition.

Should get a big clue as to the qualifying round plans for Weah, Sargent, and Amon tomorrow (Adams is not on the 35 man preliminary roster per Brian Sciaretta's reporting.)

Richards for Rogers, Dest for Perez, Durkin for Fontana, Carleton for Amaya, Amon for Dorsey, Soto for Akinola. I'm pretty sure Ledezma said recently that he's still injured. I'm assuming no Sargent or Weah because for some reason they are NT players, despite not playing regularly at the first team level. Adams isn't on the provisional roster.

If no Amon, Taitague/de la Fuente (one of them must be on the provisional roster). If no Carleton, I wouldn't mind adding a better back up keeper. I don't like the idea of not having one of our five or so best keepers as the back up. If Scott is forced out of a game, I'd much rather have Garces, Muse or Lopez in there.

    Good feedback, fellas, thanks.

I just can not see Tab having the college players miss NCAA Tournament games. If McKenzie and Lindsey were kept with their teams for playoff games, gotta figure the college boys get the same consideration.

I think all four of them are gone after the first round and if the US clinches advancement Wednesday, I think the IU (who have a game Friday) and UCLA (Thursday) players leave then. NC State is out of the ACC Tournament so they don't play till next week so I can see Perez sticking around for Friday's U20 game.

I also don't see Trey Muse or Justin Garces being added to the roster for the second round for the same reasons.

With Weah, Adams, and Sargent called up to the senior team, I'm calling in Richards, Soto, Amon, Durkin, Dest, and Carleton.

Being in his last weeks, "non English speaking" Tata is just trolling USSF. Carleton won't go.

I imagine Soto won't be released either because he's training with the first team. Actually that may be one of the reasons for it. They don't want to release him.

I doubt Bayern is even creating the optics that Richards is close. So that's kind of whack. He could get some good, different experience here, and potential exposure for a loan or even transfer down the line. Odds are against him that he's ever a useful player for Bayern.

Yeah, Bayern is being kind of jerks here if true but maybe because it's a loan makes it different for them.

Bayern have a buy clause. If they didn't care about developing him, they would certainly release him. If they keep him, it is because they think it is in their interests to do so. Most likely, they view playing with their U19 team in the UYCL and U19 BL is better than playing against Honduras U20.

Except for maybe Reading not releasing players...it is a sign of how much a team value's a talent when they don't release them for youth tournaments.

Richards would be very useful. Funny that the previous cycle was chock full of CBs and this one is so thin. Opposite could be said about fullbacks I guess. Just the way the cookie crumbles.

I don’t think Ramos is going to use all 6

Dest & Amon are the only ones I get a strong indication are happening.

But you promised! Did you watch the first half of yesterday's game? We need at least one or two more guys to shore things up. You must realize that Costa Rica and Honduras are completely different opponents from the ones we've been facing. If I ... er, someone ... hadn't jammed up all those Honduran visas, we'd be up a creek right now. Who else can we bring in on short notice?

Well, I think Soto is coming. I’m just very confident of Amon & Dest.

Nothing else is set. The most important add out of anyone would be Richards and I don’t think it’s happening

Why not Durkin? Their season is over and we’ve yet to see if Servania can anchor that midfield against good competition. It would be better if they played together.

With what we’ve seen for two seasons, I don’t expect Carleton to be released. They don’t seem to ever want to let him showcase himself. I wouldn’t even be shocked if he’s not released for the U-20 WC. Doesn’t get to play for ATL, but “too valuable” to release to youth teams. Good way to ruin a player’s development.

Dest isn’t needed as much as some others, but he’s a good player and adds depth. Amon will definitely help. Getting Soto would also definitely help. I don’t Richards is needed that much. I think Araujo-McKenzie is a good starting CB pairing, and we probably won’t even see Araujo starting because Real likely will start at CB and Gloster at LB.

Brian, by when do they have to make their changes? Like, presumably there's a change-now-or-live-with-what-ya-got deadline for all the teams that advance.

Teams that advance out of the first group stage must make their changes within 24 hours of the completion final group stage game.

Soto would be huge. I haven’t been as impressed with McKenzie as everyone else has. I’ve only seen 3 games, but in one of those games he made about 5 really bad passes/errors. I think Richards would be a massive upgrade, especially because our defenders have been spoiled a bit by not having to do anything. I think bringing in fresh blood would help a bit with them suddenly having to defend instead of stand around passing the ball.

If Dest is released, I bet he slides in at RB, too. I thought Dest was better than Lindsay at the u17 WC, but even if he wasn’t, he may be now. Plus, Lindsay can slide over to LB if he’s better than Gloster.

I agree with Durkin and Carleton. This tournament would be good for Durkin to improve his tackling and aggression.

I don’t think Atlanta has any clue what they’re doing with Carleton. People keep talking about how great tata is and all I see is a coach who hasn’t won anything (yet) in mls and had one of our top 3 prospects and made him almost completely irrelevant in 2 years. I still think this team needs him, though. If Soto and Carleton come in, along with Amon, I think this attack could be incredibly good and a lot of fun to watch.

I think Gloster has been better in this tournament (and is overall better) than Lindsey. If Dest comes in to take someone's starting spot, I think it might be Lindsey. I'm not sure who I'd prefer between Dest and Lindsey, but that competition is a whole lot closer now than I would've said a year ago.

McKenzie has been sloppy in his play at times, but its sometimes hard for a CB who gets little work to be perfect in the one or two chances they get. We've also seen some very composed (almost too composed) plays from him that I think show his level of play is above this competition.
