Ivan Gazidas one of the founders of the management team of Major League Soccer, becoming in 2001 its deputy commissioner in 1994 and of Soccer United Marketing, of which he was president is going to mighty AC Milan! Can you believe this @Calcio Pauly? Il mondo alla rovescia!
i wondered what arsenal fans think about the guy. they have a finance thread talking about the situation here: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/le...l-finance-thread.773446/page-56#post-37035692 @The Jitty Slitter posted this swiss ramble twitter thread that's relevant: As talk intensifies of a potential move of Arsenal’s chief executive, Ivan Gazidis, to Milan, I thought it would be interesting to look at how the club’s financials have developed since he arrived in January 2009. Some thoughts in the following thread #AFC #Milan #ACMilan— Swiss Ramble (@SwissRamble) August 23, 2018
Elliot wants a man who knows how to market well. He's sold MLS as good soccer. He knows how to market well
I'm not sure what Gazidas did on the marketing end but the (SUM) Soccer United Marketing which he was president was a brilliant scheme. They bought all the TV rights for WC and Concacaf Gold Cup as well as all the US and Mexican National Team TV rights in the USA and resold them to networks. U.S. Soccer or the USSF (federation) has a lucrative deal through 2022 with SUM a for-profit company owned by Major League Soccer owners.
ugh. do players still want to play for him? i can't say that i've followed arsenal closely, but my impression is that he's done jack shit there for the last decade.
Say what you want about Wenger but he's a real manager. He doesn't need to learn on the job like so many of our recent managers, Rino included. With such a young squad it's smart to bring in an experienced manager to guide us back to the CL. There aren't many manager's in world history who have development as much young talent as Wenger has. And we have a very young squad. Wenger's biggest criticism is his lack of trophies. But we aren't going to be winning any major trophies in the next few years, regardless of who the manager is. We just need Wenger to make us a consistent CL squad by developing young promising players so we could challenge the elite in 3-5 years. Or we could stick with Rino and hope we continue to score winning goals in the 95th minute whilst playing like crap for the first 90 minutes. That doesn't seem like a sustainable winning formula. I say if we have a chance at a world class manager we go for it. Enough of the Seedorf's, Inzaghi's, or Gattuso's.
Giuseppe Favalli was a good defender. He was lost among a crowd of many. If it were today, he would be starting for the national team.
Galliani: If FFP was in place in 1986, Milan wouldn't have won the 5 CLs. https://www.football-italia.net/136910/galliani-makes-milan-revelation I agree with his take on this. If owners want to invest in their clubs, it doesn't make sense to prohibit it. It just needs to be done in a way that ensures that the clubs aren't left in debt when the owner decides to stop giving them money. It needs to be up front cash contributions, and the clubs shouldn't be allowed to spend based on expecting owners to make additional contributions. I guess it would be a system where UEFA examines the books to make sure clubs aren't budgeting to spend more than they have on hand plus legit club-produced revenues. Easier said than done, right?
