So for tonight's game between the club formerly known as Chorrillo and Herediano, the visitors need another three-goal win if they want to host the second leg of the eventual semifinal against Árabe Unido. As for Universitario, any win that gets them past this series would be enough to give them the edge over Árabe for second leg hosting duties, thanks to the beatings they dished out to Diriangén in the first round. Btw, any Panamanians here know why there haven't been games at the Nuevo Maracana? Unless I'm missing something, the only stadia that have been used up to now are the Rommel Fernández and the Muquita Sánchez over in La Chorrera.
That's not correct. Herediano won 2-1. Herediano and Arabe Unido both have 3 wins and 1 loss. Arabe Unido has 8 goals scored and 3 allowed. Herediano has 7 goals scored and 3 allowed. If Herediano had won by 2 at 3-1, goal differential and goals scored would have been tied, and Herediano would have won the away goals tiebreaker.

There could be a Panamanian Final. Including the 2017 Concacaf League and Central American tournaments to qualify for the CONCACAF Champions Cup, the last time the top two Central American clubs were from the same country was in the 1996 Torneo Grandes de Centroamérica with Alajuelense and Saprissa. This includes when the final round was a group stage, in which case I looked at if the top two clubs were from the same country.
Of course, the biggest matchup between clubs from the same Central American nation was the 2004 Concacaf Champions Cup final between Alajuelense and Saprissa.

If Motagua beats Herediano and neither the Red Bulls nor D.C. qualify, Tigres UANL will be the only club in the top ten of ArsenalMetro's coefficients who qualifies.
Worth noting [h/t to Enrique "el Perro" Bermúdez for bringing it up] that in the Final, 1) the away goals rule is OFF and 2) there will be extra time if it's tied after 180, with a fourth sub allowed - as per the regulations.

Congrats to Herediano! They finally broke their duck internationally, got a trophy (not champions of Concacaf like Saprissa, but still ) and are headed to the big dance!
Seems like this tournament will be dominated by Ticos and Catrachos, while CCL will continue to be dominated by Liga MX and MLS. Parity doesn't exist in this region, so it's nice of CONCACAF to let us second ranked national leagues win something before reality strikes next year in this tournament.
Btw, what's up with Guatemalan clubs? Frikkin' Antigua running the show while Comunicaciones and Municipal can't sniff the title
Honestly these past tournaments have been the most exciting ever. The two big clubs are not dominant anymore. Here's the updated table, Guastatoya on top and ready for CCL, the league is more competitive now.
