If Columbus lose or draw next week against Minnesota and Montreal beat New England Berhalter will have failed to get his team in to the post-season. To be fair the situation in Columbus this season was sub-optimal, but much like Porter, Berhalter’s results with Columbus have been all over the map, MLS Cup Final to finishing dead last in conference. LA should be aiming higher; I’m not sure they will
Losing GBS would suck. He'd be a great fit. Anyone else think Sigi had lost the team? Watching the boys hustle makes me think they like Dom. As skydog points out, should we mess with that? For GBS yes. For anyone else? No imo.
Columbus's biggest issue is they are getting 0 production from their wingers. Last season when Justin Meram was playing well they were a top 3 team in the league. If Berahalter was hired and we started the 2019 season tomorrow, he'd have 3-4 wingers who statistically produce at a substantially higher rate. The biggest issue I have with Berhalter is more an issue with the FO. He has a system and if the FO forces players on him (Looking at you Gio) that don't fit in the system it won't look pretty. It's a moot point anyways, Berhalter will be named USMNT coachas soon as Columbus is no longer in the playoffs.
Here is the entire quote, from the #LAGalaxy post game quotes: pic.twitter.com/od9glE4RBk— Britt (@_BrittJo) October 22, 2018 I will go buy a torch and pitchfork if the FO doesn't get rid of Gio to pay Zlatan. He will more than make up the difference in money lost on Gio's deal.
I wasn't really saying that Sigi lost the team - I was saying that Sigi fielded the wrong team. He played two chronic ball watchers as the spine of our team pretty much every minute of every game until he was fired. Dom smartly benched them and once the loafers were off the field we got a lot better. Dom seems to understand a principle that neither our FO or Sigi got - looking decent when the ball comes to you isn't enough. How hard you work to get to the ball matters just as much.
Well that's not a fair comparison. The Galaxy has only paid ~$28 million for Gio (so far) while Zlatan has cost us a whole $1.5 mil.
I didn't even realize he's been here this long, but Gio only has one year left on his 4.5 year contract, so yes they should be able to find a way to get rid of him if they are serious about keeping Zlatan and improving the team. Surely a Mexican team would take him off our hands, even if we have to pay some of his salary.
I think he lost the team personally. They never fought for him like they fight for Dom and yes, a big reason why is because they don't have Ciani and Kitchen and the Norwegian guy holding them back. Btw, I was agreeing with your point that Dom is doing really well and a playoff run would make it hard to let him go and not anything about Sigi.
I think 2 convincing 3-0 wins under Dom won the team over. I don't think it was lost on most of the players who wasn't pulling their weight. Dropping those players probably got their interest, and the results got their attention.
https://www.lagalaxy.com/post/2018/...urn-training-ahead-final-regular-season-match At least three youngsters are currently training with the first team according to these photos : Efrain Alvarez (#26), Diedie Traore (#50) and GK Eric Lopez (#75). To see who the two latters are, see my last posts in the G2 thread (spoiler : there are indeed promising players). You may have missed it, but Alex Mendez to Freiburg has been confirmed by the player : Happy to announce that I have signed my first contract with @scfreiburg. I want to give a big thank you to my family, coaches, friends, and teammates that have helped and supported me throughout this process. It’s only the beginning 🙇🏽♂️💭 pic.twitter.com/JhG3hVarLh— Alex Mendez (@aleexm21) October 24, 2018 Sad news, he looked great for the Academy and G2. Waiting for the same announcement from Llanez...
I was reading this thread and getting all excited for Schelloto and South American flair, but then I realized I was a week or more out of date.
I will leave this one pinned for a couple more days of venting, then I will swap it out with the new 2019 thread.
So I accidentally clicked on the first page of this thread and opened this article from last September. Same article could apply to this season for the most part, just change a few of the names...
I still stand by this post, one year later. Except now I think we need to find a way, any way, to get rid of one of those DPs. I think we all know which one.....
