I thought we should have a thread to talk about this topic. Fact is the more one advances in age groups the more you will see duals/triple nationals everywhere.

this thread is to discuss such players whether they are youth players who play for other NT.
Or the ones who are senior players who play for other NT, and there are plenty of those and how they progress during the season, club wise. Or the ones that cause tug of wars between federations. Just pre-WC, Nigeria for one tried to poach 2 German duals by promising them a spot in the WC but both turned them down.

can also discuss things like the dual nationals that Germany basically didn't bother with. A recent example is Germany letting triple national Willi Orban join Hungary. Guess he grew tired of waiting, can't blame him.

and of course Germany can't take everyone. Not realistic and that's why it's a topic for discussion.:p

It's an interesting discussion to see how these things unfold especially once it's Senior level as they can't go back on their final decisions. Whether they made the right choice or not. As of now I have yet to see any player choose another country where the player was a huge loss to Germany. Because of our success history the better players end up with us.

one guy who has fallen off the radar this season is Liverpool's Joel Matip. Went from being a Liverpool regular to now being a bencher.

while his brother ex German Youth NT Marvin Matip also a CB seems to be captain of Ingolstadt in 2BL.

Neustadter is actually eligible for 5 countries, lol.
Germany, Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan.
shame that he missed out on Russia's WC18 at home.

I wonder if Avdijaj was better off playing for Albania over Kosovo. I don't see the benefit of Kosovo. Albania at least made a Euro. Would be shocking to see Kosovo make any tournament anytime soon.

Dadashov is a waste when it comes to Germany. Massive professional problems but does have the potential to be good if he puts his head together.

Here's a list of German duals in England who play for other countries. Could be forgetting someone.
    in EPL
    -Joel Matip
    -Joselu
    -Collin Quaner (declared for Ghana)
    -Elias Kachunga
    -Danny Williams
    -Leon Balogun
    -Jeffrey Schlupp
    -Cenk Tosun
    -Alisson (German descent)
    -Jose Holebas

    Championship
    -Timm Klose
    -Mario Vrancic
    -Muhamed Besic
-Lukas Nmecha (youth player, only provisionally cap tied, very unlikely but could still switch, also eligible for Nigeria. So triple national)

didn't bother with the ones in lower levels.

There's also Sead Kolasinac on Arsenal. He began this season with injury issues so it'll be interesting to see how he fits into their new coach's plans.

Him and Cenk Tosun would be the players who compared to their counterparts by position would have the highest chances of fitting into the German NT

If Avdijaj and Edon Zhegrova develop then they can form a pretty talented pair of young players. Mergim Berisha can also represent them. Zhegrova and Berisha are also born in Germany.

Schalke looking increasingly foolish for letting Avdijaj go for free

Knew I forgot someone, I honestly would have taken Kolsaniac over Mustafi.

    speaking of Kosovo.
Besar Halimi, Bledar Hajdini, Leart Paqarada, Fanol Perdedaj, Dren Feka
are also all like Avdijaj and Zhegrova.

Kosovo also recently tried to get Shabani to join them.

Florent Muslija is also eligible for Kosovo. He's a player that Germany needs to keep focus on cap tying him for the future.

Muslija has scored as many 1BL goals as he did in 3rd Liga but only needed 2 games to tie his 3rd Liga numbers.:p

he's a perfect example of how there is numerous "wasted" potential in the lower levels in Germany.

speaking of Marvin Matip in a 1-1 game today in 2BL. He scored both an own goal and the tying goal 90+.

as Ingolstadt are still bottom of the league. They need a win and hope the others around them lose pts to get out.

Jannik Vestergaard at Southampton is another dual. Can also add that he formed and developed into a pro within the Bundesliga system.

in 1BL, ones that play for other countries.
    gained citizenship: Rafinha and Naldo

the rest, ones who are part of 1st teams.
    -Omer Toprak
-Jakub Bednarczyk (youth player, provisionally cap tied to Poland)
    -Willi Orban
    -Kevin Kampl
    -Ermin Bicakcic
-Vincenzo Grifo (not capped by anyone but wants to play for Italy)
-Daniel Caligiuri (not capped by anyone but was called up for Italy but didn't play. Still wants to play for Italy).
    -Fabian Johnson
    -John Brooks
    -Timothy Chandler
-Jonathan Klinsmann (youth player, provisionally cap tied by USA. Still open to both)
-Sebastien Haller (his dad his French and his mom from Ivory Coast but some indication that he could be German descent, likely from his French dad???).
    -Berkay Ozcan
-David Kopacz (youth player, provisionally cap tied by Poland)
-Elvis Rexhbecaj (not capped but another headed towards Kosovo)
    -Yunus Malli
    -Nuri Sahin
    -Thanos Petsos
    -Martin Harnik
-Jozo Stanic (youth player, provisionally cap tied by Croatia)
-Noah Sarenren Bazee (not capped, but Nigeria bound)
    -Ihlas Bebou
    -Kaan Ayhan
    -Alfredo Morales
    -Adam Bodzek
    -Kenan Karaman

Now the duals other countries tried to "poach" but still either Germany or nothing.
Jeremy Toljan, Jordan Torunarigha, Felix Uduokhai, Rani Khedira, Kevin Akpoguma, Deji Beyreuther, Danny da Costa
Palko Dardai, Gerrit Holtmann, Waldemar Anton, Timothy Tillman, Oliver Batista Meier etc. It's a long list tbh.

Maybe Haller could be half Alsatian like Griezmann but not really any articles or documentation about it. Otherwise, France is the only nation he represents internationally.

it's crazy to think Griezmann a German descent was eligible for France and Portugal through birth/parentage. And eventually could have become eligible for Spain if he wanted to. Easily elevated whatever team he's in and all these countries have won titles in the last 8 years.

In Turkey, only 1st division players
    -Tarik Camdal
    -Hasan Ali Kaldırım
    -Gokhan Tore
-Guven Yalcin (youth player, provisionally cap tied by Turkey)
    -Serhat Kot
    -Tolga Cigerci
    -Mehmet Ekici
    -Alparslan Erdem
    -Yasin Oztekin
    -Tunay Torun
    -Olcay Sahan
    -Petar Filipovic
    -Baris Basdas
    -Ceyhun Gulselam
    -Koray Altinay
    -Aydin Karabulut
    -Onur Ayik
    -Omer Sismanoglu
    -Murat Akca
    -Ozer Hurmaci
    -Łukasz Szukała
    -Nazim Sangare

This is just a list of the German-Turks who have played for Turkey (and 2 that are German-Others). Didn't include the ones who've only played for Germany Youth levels or the ones who played for neither. Add those guys and you end up with another dozen names. It's interesting the amount of German-Turks who got lured to Turkey as youth players like Gulven Yalcin, plenty were. Actually over the Summer transfer seemed like Besiktas's whole youth player "promotion" was to get German-Turks and that's it. Yalcin was the only one that ended up happening.

    some other names
    -Alexander Merkel
    -Rodrigo Pinho (plays in Portugal)
    -Hakan Calhanoglu
-Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting, who got his 1st start for PSG today in their 2-0 win. Used to be a regular in the German U20-U21 before going for Cameroon.
-Peniel Mlapa, another prominent ex German youth player from U19-U21. Even won the U19 Fritz Walter Gold back in 2010. Although didn't really pan out much.

speaking of German-Turks seems like 3 rated players at Schalke U19 are all German-Turks. 3 00 players.
-Ahmed Kutucu (provisionally cap tied to Turkey)
-Gorkem Can (not capped but is involved in German youth NT. Injuries for awhile were his issues)
    -Munir Mercan (currently neither)

if some of these guys get promotion to 1st team in Summer. Then you get even more German duals in 1BL. That's just Schalke U19 too.

One dual I see more and more people want called up to the seniors is Benfica's #1 GK, Vlachodimos.

although as long as Low is obsessed with Trapp and Leno seems very doubtful. At this rate he needs to move to a bigger club just to attract our dear coach's attention.

besides truth is unless your a world class keeper it\s very very hard to permanently cap tie a GK. As it requires the player plays a competitive game for the NT. But then coaches aren't going to play #3 in those games whether qualifiers or tournaments.

    fact
-Trapp has 3 NT caps, 0 competitive games. 3/3 are friendlies.
-Leno on the other hand has 1 CC game (not easy to qualify) and 2 WCQ were both games were vs Azerbaijan. And he likely wouldn't have played those 2 games had Neuer not been out injured. ter Stegen both times played the tougher opponent while Leno got the easier one.And with that Leno is cap to Germany as he's also Russian eligible.

would be easier to keep him in the German program by constantly calling him up than cap tying as long as Neuer and ter Stegen are still fit and present.

speaking of Kevin Akpoguma (mentioned above), who Nigeria tried to poach but failed. Has declared that he's a few years away from going to Nigeria.

Hoffenheim central defender Kevin Akpoguma has admitted that he would consider playing for the Super Eagles if he is not handed a call-up by Germany's senior coach Joachim Löw in the coming years.

For the past four years, the Nigeria Football Federation have been trying to convince Akpoguma to switch allegiance from his country of birth to Nigeria, where his father hails from, but he turned down the opportunity.

The 23-year-old has 64 caps in total for Germany's U16, U17, U18, U19, U20 and U21 national teams but has not represented the European powerhouse since March 28, 2017.

''The thing is that I was born in Germany and I have played for all the youth teams of Germany and I am still a young player,'' Akpoguma told The Guardian's Christian Okpara.

''So, I want to leave it open because Germany can still call me. But if I have no other option to play for Germany, then I can consider playing for Nigeria because my dad is from Nigeria.''

Akpoguma has also caught the attention of manager Gernot Rohr, and the former Bayern Munich defender was unable to sweet talk him into joining the Super Eagles.

''Gernot Rohr visited us here in Hoffenheim and talked a lot about the young team he is building. I saw it at the World Cup; there are very good players like Iwobi, Ndidi and Leon Balogun.

''He explained all the things because I had a good conversation with him. But as I said, I want to leave every door open. When the time comes, I will let the world know my decision,'' he concluded.
