https://www.liga-zwei.de/fc-st-pauli-miyaichi-wieder-eine-option/ Miyaichi played 45 minutes in a preseason friendly. What was feared as yet another ACL tear was just inflammation around the repaired ligament.
He's 25yo now. Bundesliga2 is really a better league than JLeague? There's any chance for St.Pauli to be promoted to see him play some high level football? This guy was the biggest disappointment of the JNT during Zac Japan times. He's a cursed boy gifted with super speed but with nothing to add to the JNT as the things stand.
Unused sub along with Park and the second goalie as St. Pauli first fall behind, makes it into extra time to still lose 1-3. (Actually still 10 minutes to play but I don't think the result changes anymore.)
Did Miyaichi have the most tragic downfall of any Japanese young player ever? He went from playing high school football to signing for Arsenal to having an highly impressive half-season at Feynoord plus a national team call-up. Now he's almost forgotten and probably one more injury away from retiring. I don't know if its the Japanese medias fault, but it seems like there are so many failed Japanese wonderkids who never amounted to anything. The ones I can think of off the top of my head: Naoki Yamada (injuries) Yonemoto (injuries) Kakitani (mentality) Usami (peaked early) Morimoto (peaked early) Sho Ito (peaked early) Otsu (peaked early) Yuji Ono (peaked early) Miyayoshi (peaked early) There have been an increasing number of articles on Takefusa Kubo recently which makes me worried. I sincerely hope he fulfills his potential, but I can see him falling short with all the pressure.
Good thing I never thought any of team could be much Otsu probably the one I had more expectations on
It's a numbers game at some point isn't it? You have ten or so promising youngsters head to Europe, and you obviously don't expect all of them to succeed. Maybe out of the ten you get one or two that become competent in Europe (regular starter in a decent league), if you're lucky? I don't know all of the players listed by SamuraiBlue2002 that well, but for the ones that have already called it quits in Europe (at least for now), most of them seem to be continuing their careers back in Japan? Take a bit of risk when you're younger and head to Europe, and if they don't break out in Europe they can still go back to Japan - sounds like a decent fall back plan, and not very tragic. Injuries like what has hampered Miyaichi and Yamada Naoki's careers are another matter. It's always tragic to see an athlete, especially young and with great potential, be derailed due to injury. However, barring freak accidents, I think staying injury free is a skill/talent in itself, whether it be how you adapt your playing style (to avoid injury and still be effective), how you maintain your physical condition, or what not. Miyaichi's career has been especially rough to follow, due to the number of different parts of his body that's given out on him, combined with how much talent he had already displayed in matches in Europe prior to his injuries. ...like that time he made a tool out of Chelsea when he was ...just barely 20? At this point I just want the football gods to cut him some slack and let him play Div. 2 football consistently for a full year.
Maybe changing the shirt number from 13 to 12 work . I thought he has no future in St Pauli since he was out for so long and the manager seem has no plan for him. Very good effort from Ryo to work his way back into the manager plan.
That's his hero's magic number, I mean Thierry "BNT employed" Henry. Let's hope it give him some good luck.
Yeah, let's hope there will be no more injury for a year. Then we can talk about performances, playing time or moving clubs etc. (to Japan or another clubs in Europe) later.

How did he perform during the game? I could not find any stream for the game and could only follow the twitter feeds on st pauli twitter.
Luckily, I found a working stream for St pauli game today. Our boy Ryo started the game. First half, he did not really get into the game. Second half not much better, however he scored a goal from a header. Overall, still far from his old-self, although great determination to get on the score sheet.
Miyaichi headed home his 3rd goal of the season but was forced off injured. He did come off under his own power.
