Let's face it, with the rate things are going Germany is going to struggle big time in Euros 2020 qualification. I can see die Mannschaft having difficulty against theoretical opponents such as Slovakia, Ukraine, Bosnia, Scotland, Iceland, and Norway etc. Especially with how the DFB insists on fielding 11 clones of Iniestas on the pitch. If lucky they might get a city-state in there like Liechtenstein to pad stats but that'll be it. It's time that Germany unleashes Davie Selke. A natural born winner having already lead the U19 squad to European title few years ago. This guy needs to be cap tied. Because if Jogi and friends don't do so then I wouldn't be surprised if Ethiopia and Czech Republic make their approaches.
you forgot that he lead the line for Germany in the 2017 U21 EC win and the 2016 Olympics Silver. I dont think Ethiopia is a realistic option tbh. If he performs like last season than I think he should get a shot. After all he like Werner are the youngest 1BL striker regular contributers. As well as him and Werner having played numerous times together in the youth NT. also given his height and size offers something different.
making his 1st matchday squad as he returned from health issues. Although I believe it was said he can't play 90 yet. So geht's in die 'Autostadt'! 💙 #WOBBSC #hahohe pic.twitter.com/Jzvw4WGLfC— Hertha BSC (@HerthaBSC) September 14, 2018
Yea his father Teddy Rupp is also pretty integrated that Ethiopia is not really an option. But if he reaches his mid-20's and still getting ignored by the NT then I can see the Czech Republic knocking on the door as his mother is from there. Selke played the Olympics for Germany but I don't think that is considered fully cap tied for senior level. Interestingly enough on the other side the Czechs' striker of the future, Patrik Schick sounds like he may have German ancestry from his family in the past based on his surname.
He could also have Austrian ancestors with that name. Bohemia was part of Austria for 500 years. Probably lots of people in modern day Czech Republic with Austrian roots.
last season in Europe, Selke played his 1st season in Europe in the EL. he scored 4 goals in 3 games, a goal every 60 minutes and believe it was one of the better rates in the competition. As well as having 3 goals out of those 4 being headers. already proved himself in Europe. Fact Stindl only made the NT because of his performances in Europe leading into CC. he needs 10+ goals in 1BL like last season to show consistency.
from wiki Former Germany striker Klaus Fischer described Selke as being a "young Miroslav Klose", comparing his stature and strength in the air with that of Germany's all-time record goalscorer.[38] Selke himself, however, cites former Bayern Munich striker Mario Gómez as being his idol.[39] would say that Selke's style is closer to Gomez than Klose.
Don't care who he's like as long as he can score goals for the NT. However I prefer having a new Klose to a new Gomez (given everything that Klose was).
style of play is still important. As of now not sure we do have a next Klose. None of the 1BL German strikers are like Klose either. if we do have one, he's likely in the youth levels and a long long way aways from the senior NT.
That's true, good point. Could also be Ösi connections. I follow the Czech NT and league once a while and occasionally you see a Germanic sounding surname. But yea their families have likely been there for generations to centuries so they're fully immersed as Czechs.
Selke made his second appearance of the season subbing on from the bench in the final frame. Looks like Dardai is gradually integrating him back into the team after the return from injury. Although right now with Ibisevic in form it might take more time for Selke to get back into the Starting XI. Hopefully with squad rotation and increased show of form, he gets a chance soon in the season.
Dardai already said there will be some changes for the "English week" ( midweek ) fixture coming up. Ibisevic at 34 surely is one of the candidates, especially considering Skjelbred will come into the side after the injury to Marko Grujic and can take over the captaincy.
Hope to see Selke return to scoring form soon. With pretty much every other German striker fading this season, the time is now for Selke to emerge as a bonafide option for the NT. He needs to build upon his goal tally from last season and aim for more. If Selke finishes this campaign with 12+ goals then that would be great to see.
Kuntz and Fischer back Selke. Stefan Kuntz, active in the DFB Sturm between 1993 and 1997, brings another player into the discussion for this position: "I trust Davie Selke, who became European champion with us last year, to take on a good role in the future," the current director said Under-21 coach. "He was unfortunately thrown back by injury, but has already proved that he can make his goals in the Bundesliga." The 1.94-meter Schlaks was in the summer of 2017 under Kuntz with the U21 European Champions, in his 86 Bundesliga games for Leipzig and He met Berlin a total of 23 times. Fischer also believes that the 23-year-old could take on the role of Klose's successor. "But Löw has to give him a chance," says Fischer. http://www.sportbuzzer.de/artikel/s...s-sagen-ehemalige-sturmerstars-zur-dfb-krise/
Selke as a 2nd half sub draws a PK in injury time which Kalou scores to tie the game 2-2 vs Dortmund. https://streamable.com/1rrrq
Ibisevic has gone scoreless in 4 straight matches, Hertha are also winless in 4. Still waiting on Selke to make his first league start of the season
Dardai is an idiot. Hertha is starting to go downhill. Selke needs to start, I'd put him in the starting XI vs Fortuna Düsseldorf and work towards getting him into scoring form again.
what a goal by Selke as he scores his 1st of the season while Hertha are 10 men. https://streamja.com/lkL6 good work on forcing his way through.
I think that Dardai still not integrating Kopke and Kiprit after Selke is also a mistake. Ibisevic (expiring 2019 contract) and almost 35 and Kalou (expiring 2020) almost 34 are ahead of everyone else.
Hopefully Hertha integrate Kopke eventually and he's able to perform on the 1BL level. Would be unfortunate if he ends up being another Simon Zoller.
looks like XI chances could be a thing after impressing and scoring while being 10 men. https://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/...e-jagt-ibisevic-stammplatz-58381674.bild.html
