Bento gonna clean house, and I really hope he drops Jang Hyun-soo.

Han Chan Hee is waiting for a call up. He'd be the best backup to Ki for the moment. They share similar traits such as long passes, long range shooting and playmaking, while also sharing weaknesses such as speed and defending. This season, HCH has stepped up, playing under hard circumstances (YSC isn't a great manager as he was as a player). He's often been the best player on the pitch when Jeonnam played. Truly deserves a chance imo.

So why isn't he ever called up? What are the powers that be not seeing?

I agree, but unfortunately in the k league he can't improve his defensive skills that much.

Before Ki's replacement, we need a hard working CDM who runs a lot, like Choi Young Joon from Gyeongnam whom many compares to Kante. A huuuuuge update to JWY who doesn't have any special traits (his only strength are long passes, but we have Ki already). I hope Bento tests him next month, together with HCH.

I seriously think HHC can be a huge player if he can just improve his finish/pass at the end...

I think 12th Player meant why he has not been called up for U23.

A good match overall. Chile had plenty of time to rest and get over jet lag since their friendly with Japan was cancelled. It's definitely nice to watch a match against stronger opposition hoping for a win versus hoping not to get humiliated. You can see the obvious quality of Chile, particularly in the way they pressed individually and collectively. We still have quite a bit of work to get to their level in terms of collectively cutting out passes/squeezing the lines together. Nevertheless, we did well considering JHS and KJH played the entire match.

Here are some of my match notes/thoughts.

    1. KJH - trash. Three decent saves. Four horrendous passes with two that should have led to the opposition scoring. He's also horribly inaccurate with his long kicks, which always went to the opposition's fullbacks instead of HHC or HEJ. He really looks like a converted volleyball player. Felix from westworld cemented his spot as the No. 2. We need to test out other GKs for the No. 3 role. We missed Cho HW who is a bit weak with his kicks but never suicidal like KJH.

    2. JHS - the lit dumpster with lighter fluid to KJH's trash. What a donkey. He tries so hard. Yet, he's just not good at anything. There were two headers where he looked like a seal trying to balance the ball on his head. Both gifted the ball to the opposition. He can never cut out a pass, because he can't read the play. He's ALWAYS waiting for the opponent to receive the ball, then he closes in, which makes him constantly late to the challenge. He strings along 7 decent passes, yet he's always due for 3 horrendous passes. That last backpass (aka, assist to Chile) was something that you'd see from LKI's opponents when they were 8 years old on shootdori. He's 27! Think about that for a moment. JHS is entering his prime as a professional. Yet he is incapable of flushing out fundamental errors that a choding shouldn't be making. A poster asked why Japanese clubs would use someone like him... Well, it's because the JNT defenders are already in Europe... What a complete waste of an exemption.

    3. Hong Chul/YSY - I can't quite believe that I'm going to type this... But... Right now, Hong Chul is better than YSY. Not that YSY was bad in this match, he was serviceable and made only one really bad defensive mistake, but Hong Chul is just better in attack and when tracking back. SHM spends much less time being pinned back when paired with HC than when he was paired with YSY. Makes STY look all the more foolish for not using him in the first two WC matches. Anyway, HC looked great in the last match. And it was very unfortunate to see him get injured in this match. But I think he is the first choice left back right now.

    4. LY - his stamina was yet again an issue. He started out fine picking up from where he left off in the Costa Rica match. But then he hit a wall and started regressing quickly. His crossing was suspect too in this match, but I think that was due to his stamina. And obviously he was struggling to track back, even though he gave a 100%. Kim MH better be ready, because he's probably going to get more minutes in the next two friendlies. Same for CCS and KYH, because they should be tested.

    5. NTH - anonymous. Disappointing that he was so easily contained. He might have to be the bowling ball option against minnows.

    6. HUJ - he looked exhausted. Led the line pretty well; not as well as JDW. I want to see him at 100% after much needed rest to compare against JDW.

    7. JDW/LJS - both looked sharp and well in tune with Bento's system. In a way, the 4-2-3-1 is really what kick-started JDW's KNT career. And he looked sharp playing it again. What gives him the edge over HUJ in matches against stronger opposition imo, is that JDW is capable of interchanging with SHM on the left to confuse and draw out the central defenders. As for LJS, he just looks comfortable anywhere across the advanced positions. He's also not sacrificing himself unnecessarily like he did under STY and can show off his counterattacking/offensive skillset.

    8. HHC - he's still struggling with his decision making in the final third. Otherwise, he could not be contained and was completely disruptive to the opposition's defensive line. Let's hope he keeps getting match minutes in high pressure situations...

    9. JWY - hmmm. Today, we saw KSY push forward more often and JWY staying back. It wasn't a bad performance. It was a neutral performance. He has the ability to make an incisive pass. Yet he doesn't do it when coming up against stronger opposition. It was frustrating to watch. It was a bit like drinking Michelob Ultra; it's still beer and low calories but just unsatisfying...

    10. HIB - I don't know why some of you are jumping down his throat. He was catching up to the intensity and pace of the match late on. But I was ok with his passing. And I think he pairs well with KSY. I really liked how he tracked back and shielded the ball out for a goal kick inside our box; it was a bit of defensive work that was better than what JHS could produce. I think he should have been substituted on the 65 minute mark, because then you would have seem him settle into the rhythm of the match and make our midfield more dynamic and fluid by playing alongside KSY.

    11. KSY/SHM - do we need to say more? Class. SHM probably does wish he smashed that left footer rather than cross.

    12. LSW - I think he was the substitute for SHM. Anyway, he needs to step it up at club level and in training to fight his way for more playing time. I was surprised to see MSM come in ahead of him. That means MSM showed more intensity in training... For the sake of the KNT, we can't continue to watch MSM run around like a headless chicken...

I feel more relieved from the two games under Bento, than I ever have with four years under Stielike and Shin Tae-yong, add three years under Choi Kang-hee, and that's seven years of complete bullshit and dismay in total.

Maybe he can "retire" from WCQ and be guaranteed a WC spot if we need him. He's so pro he'd probably be able to slot right in without a problem. And nobody should begrudge him as some kind of coattail-rider at this point in his career.

That'd be a nice solution/idea but I doubt that Ki's personality would allow that.

You mean he'll want to have played all the WCQ if he's gonna go to the WC?

Our goalie looked like he was playing for Chile.

Also, I don't want us to invite and pay for friendlies with Latin American teams. The fact that they are so disrespectful to their host country makes me want to do what that dude is doing in the second gif.

No I meant that I think he will retire after the Asian Cup and he probably won't return at the WC because he feels unfair to the others if he did. I also think he has talked to PJS a lot (he mentioned that somewhere) about his retirement from KNT and will follow a similar path.
