Vitesse just got a red card in the 26' to their central defender for a cleat to the shoulder of a Basel player.
Basel wins, and advances, Luzern loses and is out. That leaves the following clubs YB - CL Playoffs vs Dinamo Zagreb 21/22 Aug and 28/29 Aug - If they lose, they will be in the EL group stages FCZ - EL Group Stages (they will be in pot 3 or 4) Basel - EL Play-off round vs Apollon Limassol 23 Aug/30 Aug
I'm feeling pretty optimistic about this. I think YB has a decent shot against Dinamo Zagreb. It's going to be tough, but I think they can pull through.
Great away win for YB. Hoarau with 2 goals and cements himself as the best modern YB player. Very scary scene in the 2nd half with the injury.
Basel away today. Let's make it three Swiss teams in the Group Stages. YB in pot 4 as expected. They are going to have a difficult time with any group they are in.
Apollon Limassol won 1-0 to tie the aggregate at 3 and advance over Basel by away goals. It's the second time in four seasons that Basel was eliminated from the Champions League or Europa League Playoff Round on away goals.
A tough Group H for Young Boys with Man U, Juventus and Valencia! Schedule: Wed., 9 Sept. Young Boys - Man United Valencia - Juventus Tue., 2 Oct. Juventus - Young Boys Man United - Valencia Tue., 23 Oct. Young Boys - Valencia Man United - Juventus Wed., 7 Nov. Valencia - Young Boys Juventus - Man United Tue., 27 Nov. Man United - Young Boys Juventus - Valencia Wed., 12 Dec. Young Boys - Juventus Valencia - Man United
Yes, but they should fill the stadium for these teams. It might be possible to get 3rd place, Man U if Mourinho is still there could be a point or two. They are going to need to defeat Valencia once and get a point somewhere else to have a shot at 3rd place.
AEK Larnaca (CYP) is the last team. Argh, another Cypriot team for FCZ. The Swiss teams seem to not do well against the. Now, I do see that FCZ could emerge from this group.
Man United is off to a bad start in the Premier League. I wouldn't be surprised if they lose at Young Boys. An opening win for Young Boys would be big because they could lose at Juventus and still have 3 points from 2 games with their hardest game done.
The turf will also play a factor as none of YB’s opponents are accustomed to playing on it. If they can find a way to turn it into a home field advantage, they could steal some points. I think they’ll finish 4th because those other teams are simply better than YB, but it’s still great to see them in this position.
YB goes down 0-3 at home to Man U. Match was closer than that, but still not great. That might have been the best chance to get points. 31k at the match.
