PSV should have invested in a good striker, either a back up for Luuk or as first choice for that matter. Not sure about that Argentine kiddo Maxi Romero who is currently with jong PSV, whats MBVs plans for him. at CL level you need more clinical strikers to that of luuk typo. I also like that Angelino guy (Left Back). he is the type of fullback NT needs on that left .
Van Bommel will soon curse his decision to make LDJ a captain, if he hasn't already. With a captain armband, Luuk is virtually a lock in the starting lineup, while he is clearly not producing. Also, the decision to send out Lammers on loan was strange... one that leaves PSV rather short on forward option. That said, Donyell Malen looks like a real steal. He was excellent in pre-season, and has been good subbing in for Lozano lately - and today he rewarded MVB's faith with a decisive goal. I think he can easily slide in a striker position if needed, given his tall body and direct play.
I like Bommeltje right now though. I didnt like him 20 minutes into the game, but I liked him for the rest of the game
Malen came up in the Ajax youth system and stupidly left the club when he turned 16 to move on to Arsenal. Of course he was never good enough to make the Arsenal first team and was sold on to PSV (can't remember what the transfer fee was). There was some debate three years ago about whether Ajax didn't push hard enough to get him to sign. Once Brexit goes through this kind of raiding will stop.
The are only two other things in life to do right now: make sure my investment portfolio is safe and pay attention to Mrs O14!!! I've been following Ajax since 1972!!!
Are they launching a new Bond actor this 2018-2019 season? In that case PSV or Ajax is going to win the CL.
€40 million on the line for Ajax if they make CL tonight: https://www.ad.nl/champions-league-...vanavond-om-40-miljoen-gegarandeerd~ab65cc24/
Certainly, Bergwijn just booked PSV tickets to the Champions League!! 20 mins in, PSV are in total control, many chances already to add a second goal.
In the year the UEFA bunch tried to kick us down by making us play qualifying rounds we kicked them in the nuts by taking two spots. Let's go all to the way to the final with a PSV-Ajax clash. That would be an epic two hands middle fingers poke in both eyes.
Thanks to the Benfica win, Liverpool are down in Pot Three with Ajax and PSV so they won't be in the same group. Draw for the group stage is tomorrow. Provisional draw pots Pot one: Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern Munich, Manchester City, Juventus, Paris Saint-Germain, Lokomotiv Moscow. Pot two: Borussia Dortmund, Porto, Manchester United, Shakhtar Donetsk, Napoli, Tottenham, Roma, Benfica. Pot three: Liverpool, Schalke, Lyon, Monaco, Ajax, CSKA Moscow, PSV Eindhoven, Valencia. Pot four: Viktoria Plzen, Club Brugge, Galatasaray, Young Boys, Inter, Hoffenheim, AEK Athens, Red Star Belgrade.
How did Lokomotiv get to Pot 1? Do we need to have Bob Muller probing this as well? Man Utd is in self-destruct mode so it'd be nice for Ajax/PSV to get dates with them.
I think because they were champions in Russia. It must have something to do with the new CL organization. Both Ajax and PSV have higher ratings.
Quite the contrary. The overhaul has been good to Holland. PSV only needed to beat a Belarusian team and Dinamo Kiev were underdogs against Ajax. If the access list hadn't been changed these are some of the teams that were expected to advance in the play-off round instead: Liverpool, Dortmund, Valencia, Roma, ... Ajax wouldn't exactly have been favourites. Now, after years of dutchies pulling their own pants down, the overhaul isn't the only factor helping Holland to pull them back up again. Dutch clubs had the luck of the draw but failed to capitalize on it in the EL, Ajax was able to avoid Benfica though. Also, in the race for that direct CL spot Holland's competitors slipped up badly. Salzburg shat the bed against another poor side and Austria dropped below Holland without the CL bonus. They'll be top seeds in the EL though and if Rapid qualify Austria still pose a threat. Denmark had already dropped below Holland and with their tough draw it'll be hard to get even one team into the EL group stage. Switzerland and Czech Rep. are in the chasing pack but the ? is still there, can they can keep up? The Swiss will need Basel and the czechies have yet to spring into action. PAOK also missed out on the CL bonus but that was to be expected. If Olympiacos reach the group stage the Greeks do have the numbers in the EL to bridge the gap, depending on how well/poorly PSV and Ajax do in the CL. Could be close.
Rules for Pot 1 are Champions League winner (Madrid), Europa League winner (Athletico) and then the champions of the highest UEFA ranked associations (Russia are sixth).
