yeah i recall that one instance for Spurs a couple years ago where he fought with Lamela about who gets to take the PK and there was all this drama afterwards. Of course that was in a low-pressure situation in a relatively low-stakes match.

In all honesty, I think that's a little unfair to JSR. And you better hope takeuchi doesnt see this, lol.

good to know Hwang EJ is better goal scorer compared to Hwang HC but some of you are way overrating Hwang EJ atm (absolutely useless against Kyrgystan). Asian games = 4th or even 5th tier tournament. from nations who brought U20/21 squads (not even the best players from this age selection) to rosters that include amateurs. we are also talking about Asian minnows while Korea has 3 over-age players.

when you consider the opponents & make up of Korea squad... this hasn't been an impressive tournament for Korea. at the same time, as long as Korea win gold.. who gives a F? ;)

? He's also scoring crucial goals and is hard carrying our team through the knockout stages. No one said he's a world beater, but that his performances warrant another chance on the senior team. What's so wrong with that? I don't even recall anyone overreacting, in fact, most people are still skeptical if this can translate into the senior game. Also, do you expect people to be level-headed after a dramatic 4-3 win in extra time? Come on now.

    fair enough...

on the call to give him another chance for senior team? i disagree.. if it is purely based on Asian Games performance + goals. again, Asian Games is worthless tournament except to Korean players. in terms of overall body of work, even if he is scoring goals for Gamba (streaky goal scorer) this season, he doesn't offer much in every other area as CF.

counter argument.. of course, is Hwang HC. if he makes it.. why not Hwang EJ.. and to that argument, I have nothing to say I guess.

edit - btw, Hwang EJs place in the squad is justified when Korea wins gold. if not, when you consider it is forcing Son HM to play deeper to accommodate Hwang EJ in starting XI & defense continues to be a mess :coffee:

I think it's the same player that threw a triple punch combo at one of our players a few years ago and got banned...

So much hate on Hwang Eui Jo. Name who's more suited to play striker for the senior team. Ji? Suk? I'd take Hwang over both

yup.. easily. Ji & Suk > Hwang EJ. What does Hwang offer over both? Ji & Suk are much more proven at senior lvl (in terms of goals too).

@takeuchi I seriously doubt given the circumstances that any striker in korea would have done better even if this is a micky mouse tourney.

How long ago did hwang ui jo play for the nt and what did suk or ji do on the senior nt to justify your < suk/ji?

Did you just say Ji is "more proven" at senior lvl? I hope you are just saying he's proven to be useless, not saying "he's shown he's good enough to play for senior NT".

Wait, you are the guy who thinks JSR >>>> other Korean GKs. NVM.

Hwang EJ = 11 caps w/ 1 goal for senior NT
Suk = 11 caps w/ 4 goals for senior NT

Ji DW.. of course, played more. However, Ji & Suk play at higher lvl. Ji also has a history of scoring "critical" goals against higher opposition even at U23 tournament (Olympics).

Hwang EJ? Asian games.. so far.. is all he has. Even at club lvl, he has mixed history. At Gamba.. just like he was at K League... is wasteful. He has 9 goals atm but he also waste simple chances. In the build up? Again, doesn't offer much.

2011 Asian Cup, 2012 Olympics... he has much better CV than you think.

my argument for JSR in the past cycle.. was mostly against guys who played as #1 before Jo HW suddenly became #1 at the WC. guys like Kim SG, Kim JH, Kwon ST and etc... weren't & aren't better over JSR.

    hypothetical..

if Son played up top (clearly the most clinical goal scorer for Korea), why not? if Kim HB included veteran mid or defender for better balance instead of Hwang EJ.. perhaps they wouldn't have struggled as much.

edit - wasn't Ji a striker in 2011 Asian Cup?

Son is being played more of a wingback due to our injuries on our wings. Thats a whole different argument.
