I just watched the extended highlights:

    Our finishing is utterly comical.

It sounds like we won the World Cup when SHM scores the one and only single goal of the game against Asian football powerhouse Kirgystan I mean Kyrgyzstan. I had to google to find out correct spelling.

Gotta be such an insane level of cognitive dissonance for SHM to be plying his trade at the top level of soccer both in Russia then back to London to now find himself playing for his freedom in some dog sht stadium alongside teammates who will never ever begin to experience the pro the life he knows thereby incapable of comprehending what's at stake (including those at Tottenham)... insane.

    Netflix couldn't make this up.

One good thing about this match was the commentary imo. Great combination of a competent caster (Bae Sung Jae), a competent expert (Jang Ji Hyun) and an hilarious ex-player (Choi Yong Soo).

moondog's criticism of SHM is that he's at his best when he plays like ronaldo, but for korea, he tries to play like messi.

he's not a playmaker but seemingly puts that burden on himself sometimes. this has a detrimental effect on chemistry and teammates' confidence. we tend to blame the manager but at least some of it seems to be SHM playing like he's the only possible threat in attack

Yes. All throughout the game I was yelling, give the ball to SHM on the wing and let him run through everyone. So frustrating watching HHC and SHM drop so deep.

YES!! Maybe we needed an experienced front man who could win aerial duels, keep defenders occupied and free up SHM to do his thing. Hmmmm let me see. Who would have been a good choice

SHJ's consistent exclusion needs to be explained.

completely unrelated, but there's a subplot in club de cuervos where the manager picks a player as a starter, not on merit, but because he receives blowies from the player's mother.

Well at least I can find solace in the fact that SHJ's mother has dignity to not offer "blowies" to KHB or STY.

I kid. KHB and STY are probably not those type. They're just stupid coaches.

I feel for Son. He seems to feel the burden and want to take too much responsibility. But he should just play on his best position and focus on what he can do best, not trying to become a player that isn't him. He's rather hurting the team by trying to be a playmaker.

A great upside to Bento (or any foreign manager with a backbone) is their objective view of talent and skill. I'm certain he's already aware of SHJ playing in Ligue 1 and will call him up in the future.

Son is overreaching bc he doesn't trust management and it's obvious he is feeling the pressure on the field.

Can you blame the guy? He's used to intensity and professionalism off and on the field and it's a goddam kimchi circus when he plays for country with the prospect of military service and death knell of a chunk of his football career hanging over his head.

I think stielke and STY didn't have the right level of respect from the players, for different reasons.

That respect is key for a manager to hold the attention and motivation of the players as a single team unit to play the best role for the team, rather than a group of individuals on the field doing what they each think is best.
