Well, that's progress. I still think he it's more likely he's playing for Minnesota United next year than for any first-team in Europe, but it's nice to see him move up. Also, need to be clear that there is no shame in playing for an MLS team. Especially in 2019.
Based on what do you think he would move to MLS? His game fits Europe he will have numerous first team options in Spain, France, the Netherlands, and Portugal and the money will be better. Like I've told people on this board for years....this is just the process that all Villarreal prospects go through. Breaking into a top 5 La Liga side will not be easy but he is on the right path. I mean they just signed him to a two year extension and he has four goals this preseason.
Lol, my only comment on this is that the better players that Mukwelle plays around the better he will play as his game is through movement technique and the ability to find channels. Chukweze reminds me of a young Dembele.
I think something like half their starters from last year are with the first team now (the other half have been loaned or sold). Additionally, it is not uncommon for B teamers to be called up for occasional matches with the first team.
Being a Villarreal B standout could very well land him a 1st team contract with another Laleega club. Minn United is a tire fire and should never be mentioned in this thread again. Don't curse the kid.
Villarreal is insanely efficient.... they turn over the majority of their B every year. Sell half off and promote 1/4 to 1/2 of the others..... A never-ending pipeline of talent that knows their system, their culture, and the club. and Minnesota United will not have a homegrown player for another four years possibly more with the youth coaching staff that they have in their ranks.
How? We have two prospects at two the best-developing academies in the world. We want our kids to be successful at 23 and 24 on up. As long as they're playing week in and week out at a Villarreal B, Benefica B, or Werder II level in the case of Sargeant we are in good shape. American fans have a huge misconception of the importance of "first team" minutes in the developmental years between 18-24 years old. Remember, Jesse Linggard didn't break into the MU first team until he was 23. In fact from a development standpoint third division Spanish or Portuguese football is light years better the shit football that is played in MLS
Feel free to think whatever you want. A player (Mukwelle) who is turning 22 in January who hasn't consistently played beyond the "C" team does not feel particularly promising to me. With regard to Parks, he is 21 now and his progress has seemingly stalled quite abruptly and heavily at Benfica. That's not good. Parks circumstances at Benfica do not feel particularly promising at the moment. Sargent's situation of course is a lot different he is only 18. I'm sure you can find examples here and there of players breaking through after the age of 22 but those are few and far between. If you're still playing in the reserves at 21 - 24. That's, generally, not a good sign. So, yes, to me, those situations do not seem promising at the moment.
Yes, I can find examples of players breaking through at 21, 22 and 23 like every prospect that Villarreal produces.
Lingard was on loan in the English Championship from ages 19-22, not stuck in Man Utd’s reserves. Let me know when Bayern Munich spends $20 million on a Spanish or Portuguese 3rd division teenager like they’re doing with Alphonso Davies. I totally hope Mukwelle breaks through. The times I watched him, very exciting player.
I think Parks is closer to a First Division loan. Akale will be there if he does well this year. It is interesting that they both are in similar situations due to their particular physical characteristics. Too tall and too small.
Great point, VIllarreal B is one of the top teams in Spanish third division and usually competes for second division promotion.
Well I'm hoping for the best for them both. Parks situation at Benfica really seems to have stalled. Coming into the season I think most people were hoping to see him more gradually integrated into the first team. That doesn't appear to be in the cards so far. Akale everyone is hoping he breaks through but he is going to be 22 in January... so time to start playing first team football somewhere.
Parks turned 21 16 days ago. He won't be 22 till the start of next season. (So there's no need to freak out about him just yet.) While I was hoping he'd get a chance to break through at Benfica it seems they've gone with Gedson. Which isn't a surprise because he's a Portuguese kid. Hopefully, he, his agent, and the club are working out a loan for him. We all want him to get first division minutes but even if that doesn't happen now it could very well happen in January. As long as he puts his head down and works hard, continuing to improve his defense and positioning he'll be okay. Benfica invested in him with his new 4 year deal. They're going to want to capitalize on that. Either by playing him themselves or loaning him out. They're in the business of making money and they know he can make them some if given the chance.
