*Interestingly the single 7/28 game also appears to have counted as a separate week. Interesting especially since that game never happened.

Also I recently noticed that I omitted the 7/22 game from the Week 17 thread opener. [I had one job.] If that happens again, please feel free to call me out. Thanks.

Uh oh. You're in week 19. My computer didn't count last week, since there was a cancelled plane flight, and it's in week 18. Oh well, anyone crazy enough to compete here must be able to see that 18 = 19.

So you triggered another thread. You're a professional at it, by now, and the discussion about a week made of only one match, that incidentally was never played, is priceless.
Tells you something about what kind of obsessive heads there has to be down at NWSL!

Keep up the good work, @Semblance17!

I turned on the game just in time to see NC score. They've got a firm grip on the Shield now!

Parsons made a massive mistake starting a tired Sonnett. She made some really poor decisions in that half, most of which are likely due to fatigue. And she was very lucky not to get a penalty called on her.

37' 1-0 Portland attack stalls at 12m 6-left, cleared to circle back (NC's) right. NC longball to McDonald unmarked up wide right, to 15m. Ground cross to 8m center, Ln.Williams wins her race past Sonnett, flicks across mouth past Franch frozen, into back left low.

45' 2-0 Zerboni plays Mathias down wide left, 1-v-1 on Heath. Mathias works her way down to 6m, bounces a fast ground cross through 6m. Menges kicks away, but ball hits Boureille in the back (of right shoulder, no call), spins left to 8m left post. Ln.Williams is first thereat, slide-scythes a slow roller the other way, across mouth into back right low with Franch frozen again.

49' 2-1 Heath fk at arc top box right. Horan repositions self to the central gap in the wall, then begins her run just-as Heath's leg swings, back-cutting Ln.Williams and timing the gap perfectly. Heath left instep inswings to 5m center, Rowland steps up but not far enough, Horan lunges across her bow and heads a floater into 1/3 right back. It's a meme

    FT 2-1.

28' 0-0 McCaskill killer through-ball springs Dorsey to 16m, Harris saves at spot :ninja:

42' 0-0 Marta fk at 22m center, skips off a head to left 90, off crossbar 1/5 left, bounces down into the 6 and up. Weatherholt hop-volleys at 8m 1/3 left, Sheridan catches face-high.

    HT 0-0.

51' 1-0 Ubogagu left throw-in at 25m, to Weatherholt backshielding Freeman at 8m box left. Weatherholt spins ccw and gets around Freeman to 10m mid-left, right foot shot rises hard toward 1/3 left, Sheridan jump-and-sprawls and pushes it across goal mouth. Ball bounces off right post high, reflects to 1m 1/3 left. Marta separates from Frisbie and arrives first, hop-volleys in past Sheridan still down.

53' 1-1 McCaskill theads another nasty through-ball past lumbering Kennedy to Groom at box top arc right. Edmonds leaves Dorsey and drifts centerward to ball. Groom cuts back at 13m 6-right, Kennedy brushes self against Krieger's back and loses balance, sprawls down to own 7m. Dorsey sees that, stops alone at 8m center, behind Kennedy :giggle: Groom goes down to one knee, gets up, kicks a cross to Dorsey. Dorsey chests(?) down, scoops a shot past Harris, into 1/4 left 2/3 high. Orlando appeals for -- offside? (no) armball? (can't tell)

59' 1-2 Frisbie taps right to Lloyd at 27m mid-left. Lloyd drives a high cross to 7m mid-right, nobody picks up Groom through box top up centerline. McCaskill AGAIN runs on, jump-heads a cross to 6m 1/3 right, Groom lunge-heads past Kennedy across mouth and Harris's dive, bounces at goalline 1/3 left and into back left edge 1/2 high. After the play, Groom stays down -- impaled nose on Kennedy's shoulder?

Maybe WNT could take another look at McCaskill as a passer :notworthy:

69' 1-2 Lloyd collects a double-rebound (off self and Kennedy) at 27m mid-left, drives down box left to 6m mid-left, cuts back to 8m 2/5 left, slide-shoots rising to crossbar center, Harris pushes it over.

73' 2-2 Morgan heads back to Camila at 30m arc right. Camila drives to arc tangent right, finally hauled down by Meehan (no call). Ball skitters loose to Weatherholt at 18m right post. Weatherholt dinks ball to 8m 1/3 right, swim-moves behind Freeman's back. Sheridan slides out and knees ball away -- but it rolls up Weatherholt's torso into her stride, and she nods it into 1/3 right back.

79' 2-2 Morgan comes back to 15m center, shoots left instep toward left 90, Sheridan pushes it over.

Wow Orlando Sky Blue game was the first match I saw in full this season and what a nail biter! Can anybody explain in a few sentences why Sky Blue hasn't won a game in the whole entire season? That should be unacceptable on the management team.

    This game

90+6' (of +7') 2-2 Marta right ck, inswings tight to 1m 1/3 left, Sheridan double-punches away to 12m 6-left. Edmonds(?) heads across the 6 to 5m 3-right, Morgan jumps facing away and twist-heads to 2m 1/3 left. van Egmond jumps for a sidehead, Lloyd jumps and reaches left hand up at head-height, ball clearly goes about 2 diameters goalward and then gets hooked/thrown up and away. McCaskill blasts clear, but -- handball, pk, red card on Lloyd.

90+7' (of +7') 2-2 Marta pk, left instep hard but only to 2/5 right, Sheridan sprawls and blocks wide right, Sky Blue blast into near touch.

    FT 2-2.

41' 1-0 Huerta fk at 36m mid-right. Latsko begins a slow jog through arc top mid-left, Moros fronts her on a parallel track. Suddenly, Latsko back-cuts behind Moros and gets lateral sepration, Huerta drives the fk low and fast to 8m 5-left, Latsko is more ready for it (like they practiced this, or something :ninja:). Moros tracks ball but jumps and misses, Latsko drives a header down to goalline center. Barnhart dives left and gets a touch, but can't keep it out.

    HT 1-0.

44' 1-0 Spencer taps back from circle top to circle left -- and begins her own jog up centerline. Long stabs ball ahead to Rapinoe at 35m box left, one-touch pass to J.Taylor at 30m arc left, one-touch backpass to Long. Washington's 3-4-3 springs a leak: Rapinoe continues her run through box top mid-left, pinning RB Quinn. Lone CB E.Johnson is waaay up at 27m, overplaying Taylor's back. Spencer sees 1-on-1 on LB Huster, runs a simple post route into the void behind E.Johnson, already raising arm before Long receives.

Long steps up, one-touch chip from 32m drops at 14m 3-left. Spencer sticks right foottop out, perfect ball-stop in own stride, chases to 7m 2-left as Quinn and Huster pinch in late. Spencer flicks right foottop dink chip over Huster's foot, mini-lobs Haracic's jump-and-sprawl, drops perfectly into back right low. Two exquisite touches and a bit of speed.

    HT 1-0.

77' 1-1 Houston pass in their own 1/3. Harmless backpass to Campbell, she steps up to 10m own left post and stops ball. Campbell kicks a roller to Brooks at own arc tangent left, as Press lopes (her) rightward from Polkinghorne at arc top left toward Brooks. Brooks watches Press approach, peeks over right shoulder to track ball, then (cue Jaws cellos) turns away up her left too soon, and tries the no-look right-instep-through-own-split-legs trick? Ball rattles off Brooks' own left calf, sits perfectly behind her as she spins in shock. Press arrives now :p, collects ball perfectly in her stride, touches once to 11m 7-right, shoots right instep near post past Campbell's left hand, into center back low. Charlie Brown exults, as Lucy goes AUUUUUGH :barefoot:

83' 1-2 Lytle taps right to Jónsdóttir at circle top left, she taps right to Labonta at circle top. Labonta passes forward to Tymrak in a seam at 30m center. Stengel makes a hard back-cut past Polkinghorne at 22m arc right -- held onside by Brooks at arc top left. Tymrak chips over the line to 14m center, Stengel lets it bounce past spot and lifts a waist-high left foot dink over Campbell stranded at 6m. Campbell steps back, jumps stretching back (her) left, brushes ball with fingertips but can't get power, it drops into back right low.

    FT 1-2.

    61' 1-0 Washington subs in:
    - (1 of 3) #6 Andi Sullivan for #9 Havana Solaun
    - (2 of 3) #16 Rose Lavelle for #14 Francisca Ordega.
69' 1-0 Washington subs in (3 of 3) #11 Mallory Pugh for #33 Ashley Hatch. Sullivan, Lavelle, and Pugh!

71' 2-0 Spencer passes from circle center to Rapinoe at 32m box left. Rapinoe backs Quinn down to box top mid-left, T.Smith comes back and pokes ball toward own endline, chases and hooks ball up left touch and out.

Hidden ball girl trick: T.Smith, Quinn, and S.Johnson all step away to own 12m, subconsciously following the ball that Smith kicked out -- but Rapinoe goes directly to the ball girl lurking at 15m, gets her ball, spins and heaves a quick left throw-in to J.Taylor gliding through the too-high line, already alone at 7m 7-left. Taylor follows the 2nd bounce to 4m 4-left, right instep dink chip over Haracic at left post, drops past her into 1/3 right back. Somebody go (waist-)high-five that ballgirl.

80' 2-0 T.Smith crosses from endline wide left outswinging through 7m right post. LCB _ bad swing and whiff, ball continues untouched to 9m left post. Dydasco(!) runs on from the left, shoots one-touch right foot hard to 1/5 left low, Ld.Williams dives and double-blocks.

    FT 2-0.

It definitely had drama: Sky Blue with a lead for the first time all season, a DOGSO-H red card on Lloyd, a Marta pk saved...

For storylines, the Houston-Utah game wasn't bad either...a comeback from Utah within the last 15 minutes to keep their playoff hopes on life support, a nice chip for the winning goal, Press getting booed by Houston.
