"With Jong PSV two players on trial participated: Charaf Taoualy from Morocco and Richard Ledezma from the United States. The just 17-year-old Ledezma was very active and showed he was keen to have the ball. Taoualy is an elegant midfielder, who serviced Laursen with the assist. He showed a number of times that he could find creative solutions. Whether both players are deemed good enough by PSV for a contract, is still an open question. At the end of this week, young PSV will go into a short training camp spell, somewhere near Weert. The first team of PSV travels to Switzerland on Monday afternoon"
By the way, if he doesnot make it as a soccer player at PSV, he can follow the footsteps of another former youth player Voormalig jeugdspeler PSV Evenepoel wint EK wielrennen met 10 (!) minuten voorsprong Remco Evenepoel heeft bij de junioren de Europese titel op de weg veroverd. (shitty) google translate: Former youth player PSV Evenepoel wins EK cycling with 10 (!) Minutes Remco Evenepoel has won the European title on the road for the juniors. And how. The Belgian, who was a youth player at PSV a few years ago, picked up a long solo in Czech Zlin and drove the opposition in about 10 minutes. Earlier this week he won the gold medal in time trial. Dennis Kas 15-07-18, 13:57 He has only been racing for a year and four years ago he pulled the door close to PSV. Evenepoel was reached in 2011 as a defensive midfielder, a golden football future stared. After two years in Anderlecht, the former Belgian youth international snapped up on football and swapped the ball for the bike. The footballer turned out to be a cycling sensation.
I’ve seen Richie play many times. My son has been playing with him since they were 8 years old, up until currently at RSL. Richie is a very technical player, who can both find a pass, and finish at a high level. His soccer IQ has always been of the highest level (remember him playing a quick / short corner, when he was eight!). He loves being on the ball, and usually makes correct decisions. See him as a #8 / #10 moving forward. Also, he has signed with Nike, so college is not an option.
no its ok he has a scholarship offer for life. he is going to take half a year off of his pursuit of professional soccer and go backwards.
Soto (his RSL teammate) has the scholarship offer from Cal, not Richie. Richie has signed with Nike, been offered by RSL, and will most likely sign in Europe, but most definitely will not be going to college.
Mmmm, quick assesment of an unknown new situation. As it costs little to go into College or Uni and PSV will be paying it anyway, why would you as a kid not do it? Kik Pierie combines a revelating season at pro level with very good high school results, so it's not logic to state he willnot. He probably will be stimulated by PSV to do so as what would a kid do with all the idle time anyway.
No problem, like I’ve stated a few times, my son plays at RSL, so I’ve seen / known these boys for awhile now, and in Richie’s case for the last decade or so
Well, by signing the contract with Nike, Richie has given up his college eligibility here in the states. No idea how it works abroad.
There are no grants via sports or whatever. The cost for studying over here are very low, especially compared to the USA. So there's no need for such things as grants. The only studies that are expensive are the special top university studies, but when you're that good your study is being payed by a company anyway, eager to enlist you. So that whole college grant thing doesnot play any role in the mind of Dutch/European kids. So if a US kid is very good at soccer, but has doubts about giving up his chances on a college grant and has access to an Euro passport I would suggest move over the ocean, because you can do both at the same time without the one being linked/conditional for the other.
We havenot got a communist like entity like that NAAC or what code it is in collusion with universities, that determines what people can or cannot do.
That’s great, and as already stated, we wish we had no such entity either. By the way, Richie is going into his senior year of high school, so no matter where he ends up, that will be his first academic priority.
Just to be clear, for anyone that doesn't understand the US system, there is nothing preventing professional athletes from attending college in the US. They just can't play on the NCAA sports teams there or receive athletic scholarships.
Thanks for the clarification, I should’ve stated that Richie will not be playing college soccer in the U.S., due to his signing with Nike.
the question of course is why would he want to play college soccer in the netherlands or why nike would want to pay any kid to play soccer in college anywhere. Think about it to be in college he'd be 18...if he was worth the investment by a company like nike there would be no way he'd chose to go to college he's be playing somewhere and getting paid. why go 8 divisions below the level he should be playing at for even a single season. Just a terrible idea.
Isnot this the core of their (ncaa and universities) grip on athletes as so many cannot do without it?
lol the way it works is you have a skill...the school pays ur bills while you are there and in return you aren't allowed to get additional income. many athletes wouldn't be in school if not for the scholarship.
Athletic scholarships, particularly in "non-revenue sports", which means anything other than Men's Basketball and Football, are more-often "partial". Football takes up 85 full scholarships, and Title IX takes up half of all scholarships, so you often get into situations where, for example, the baseball team has 8.5 scholarships available per class, they divvy that up between 15 guys, so everyone gets something less. But most of the time, if you're good enough, you're getting a full ride. Depending on the school, it's roughly 30-40K, plus ancillary benefits like classroom materials, food, and sports-related equipment.
I feel as though I’m the only person who understood that from the beginning without you having to clarify that.
