Another one training at Bayern. Am told LA Galaxy Academy winger Uly Llanez will be training with @FCBayernUS this week. Bayern have been doing a good job monitoring the top talent in the U.S— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) July 16, 2018
ULYSSES LLANEZ #7 PLAYER PROFILE Year of Birth: 2001 Position: Forward Hometown: Lynwood , CA Nationality: United States EDUCATION Graduation Year: 2019 DOB is April 2, 2001, so he could sign in Germany (or elsewhere) next April.
Uly should try his luck in Europe.. we all know the Galaxy won’t give him a chance since they have so many other attacking options. If he went to Bayern a similar situation would arise but at least they could loan him to a 2. Bundi team or even better, another Bundi team. Waaay better for his development than playing in USL
I think we all saw this one coming. Maybe not specifically Bayern for his trial, but I think the rumors as to why he wasn’t in the u20 camp made it pretty obvious that he was going to have a trial coming up somewhere.
Chris Richards let this slip on his Insta live about 2 weeks ago. Looks like he wasn't playing around!
Uly will be with the U19s this week. For those keeping score at home, the Bayern U19s include US-eligible '00 Chris Richards, '01 Justin Butler, '01 Taylor Booth, '02 Malik Tillman. '01 Thomas Roberts is another player Bayern rates highly #usynt https://t.co/vDcNK9FNBF— Joey (@USAprospects) July 16, 2018
It's funny to me that when a European team finds a American or two, they all of a sudden sign a bunch of them. First Fulham, then Schalke, and now Bayern Munich. I think it's great, but it's like a European team looks at America and is like "Wait we can get some of their best youth talents for free?! I have to stock up while I can!"
I actually wonder if this development isn't strategic: bring in a handful, so they can immediately form friendships and don't end up as isolated and homesick as, say, Landon Donovan ended up. Seems to have worked with Pulisic and McKennie.
Surely not all of them are Pulisic/McKennie level. I know what players are there, I want to know which is going to emerge as the star because I think all of those players are talented. Tbh, I don’t really agree with the idea that a team like Schalke just brought in Taitague and Wright only to make Wes comfortable. Those two were both very good players and worthy of getting a chance in Schlake’s academy, just like all the Bayern kids are. Perhaps the team is eager to sign multiple players to make them all comfortable, but at the same time, perhaps the players all pick the same team so they can have a network, too. But I don’t think these teams are just bringing in no talent hacks just to make the world nicer for the one prospect that is good.
Right. You have to be on some sort of level for any Euro academy to want you in the first place. Wright had 11 goals and 11 assists in 24 u19 matches, so they clearly saw something in him at the time. Nick has been unlucky with injuries. I was just covering your question of homesickness. For example, look at how Wright did when he left Schalke. And Gaines at Darmstadt. Grouping yanks together is something they have learned to do to avoid Landon/Robbie situation imo. If I had to pick the player, I would say Booth or Uly could be that player when it's all said and done (if TB's passport ever gets cleared). But picking which teens will breakthrough in Europe can be close to impossible.
Looks like Uly's time with the club has been upgraded from "training" to "trialing": American teenagers Cameron Duke (Sporting Kansas City) and Ulysses Llanez (LA Galaxy) will both have trials with Bayern Munich next week, according to Bild. #FCBayern #SportingKC #LAGalaxy #MLS #USMNT— Ronan Murphy (@swearimnotpaul) July 19, 2018
Another expense they won't be reimbursed for when they leave. Why don't they not only pay for foreign language lessons but then pay for their flights and accommodations to Germany too. Can't be too nice in letting all their youth players go for free.
Hearing Uly Llanez has agreed a deal to sign with Wolfsburg and Alex Mendez has agreed a deal with Freiburg. Both LA Galaxy Academy products who turned down good offers with the club to go to Germany— keith costigan (@KeithCostigan) October 5, 2018
Wonder what his plans are until he turns 18 in the spring. I assume he'll just train with the team but not play
That's a good point. Kids who thought that they were Mexicans while living here will realize that they are way more Americans than Mexicans when leaving abroad.
I think Uly's dad is a Super USA fan, so no worries on that front anyway. it would have to take like a sudden 34- year old Michael Bradley insertion at LW in 2021 for Uly to switch.
