So, now that France won the WC, I guess they'll get knocked out of the group stages yet again. 1998 FIFA World Cup: France Champions 2002 FIFA World Cup: France Eliminated At Group Stage 2018 FIFA World Cup: France Champions x2 2022 FIFA World Cup:
You never know lol. We have a decent talent pool: Lee Kang-in, Baek Seung-ho, Jeong Woo-yeong, Kim Jung-min, Han Chan-hee, Lee Keun-ho, Cho Young-wook, Kim Jin-ya, Song Bum-keun, Kang Hyeon-mu etc. + Son, Lee Seung-woo, Kwon Chang-hoon, Lee Jae-sung, Cho Hyun-woo, Kim Young-gwon, Kim Min-jae, Suk, Ji, Lee Chang-min, I think we have another golden generation in the making.
Is it just me or did anyone else thought France was the clear favourite while Croatia was the underdog in this matchup...The final result wasn't really a surprise.
It's not just you and it's quite obvious the majority had France winning the WC. Even Lee Young-pyo stated that roughly 20% went for Croatia.
Even if Croatia played better than France most of the match, at the end France won by a 2 goals margin, scoring 4. It was inevitable they would win. In the first half, they had 2 goals with only 1 shot on goal (from a PK). It sums up they were highly effective during the whole tournament. They went through difficult times against Belgium or Croatia but overall they won the WC quite easily, (they didn't play any extra-time for example) without playing that good. That's really surprising.
It was nice to see the team throw Deschamps in the air and spray him with champagne while chanting his name. He did a great job getting this group of young superstars to always put the team first, and the players in turn responded with selfless and intelligent displays. We haven't seen their talents fully unlocked by any measure, but maybe we're in for a treat at Euro 2020.
Our commentator, and the analyst team in Zagreb did not see much issue in the penalty call- the commentator feared immediately it'd be given. There was more fuss about the foul preceding the 1. French goal. It was a soft contact, according to these analysts. Yeah, bias. But it's interesting how the penalty is a lesser issue for them than the circumstances of the first goal.
also surprising is that they did it without Giroud getting even one shot on goal. Shows how spread out the attacking talent is for Les Bleus. Conversely, look at a team like EN who (pens and set pieces aside) may have been too reliant on Kane for large stretches.
As killaorca mentioned, I'm referring to the youngster Lee Keun-ho who plays for Pohang, not the veteran Lee Keun-ho . Since the name is the same, thus causing a confusion, I will just put it as Lee Keun-ho 2.
The welcome-home of the Fiery Ones is spectacular. Fighter jets escorted the plane to the airport, and the heroes are riding in on an open bus to the main square in Zagreb. Total madness.
I don't live in Zagreb, but here's a link with a video. https://www.vecernji.hr/zagreb/u-zagrebu-zbog-doceka-vatrenih-posebna-regulacija-prometa-1258643
