Well, I truly hope that Foden will get plenty of playing time this season, Pep rates him massively so I honestly think there is a good chance. I will be really really disappointed if he isn’t used that much tbh but I’m confident he will. Silva, even though I love him isn’t getting any younger and may even be rotated a bit more this season so I think there’s a chance unless we buy someone else. I know we have bought Mahrez but he’s not in direct competition with Foden even though it could hamper a place on the bench. If Pep doesn’t think he will get enough playing time then I really hope for a good loan move.

The march in Edinburgh? Don’t think Trump will want to watch the replay tbh ;)

I'm worried about Foden because I have a tendency to overrated those types of players. When first saw Wilshere and McEachran I thought the English midfield would be built around them, even Huddlestone I had high hopes for.

True, McEachran just seem to fall off a cliff which was a great shame, Wilshere was just hampered with injuries which was a great shame but was never really sold on Huddlestone tbh. I know it’s always a long shot with the youngsters and they need that drive to succeed. I’m just hoping that players like Foden with the success he has already had with winning a World Cup and watching the seniors in the Semi final of a World Cup will just increase the appetite to be the very best. We can only hope I guess.

There were a few worrying concerns for the future I would say.

    1. Again an obsession with the system regardless of how the game goes or whether it suits the players playing it. I remember in one of the build up games; when this system was first created we had Livermore taking up pretty erratic positions. I could never even understand his actual role or whether he was following instructions or just roaming randomly. It's the same with Delph when he takes Lingard's role. He comes deeper a lot but doesn't seem to stay there and isn't really sure what he should be doing. Or at least that is how it seems. It's never corrected either. RLC, Delph and Dier are completely different in their individual qualities to who they are replacing but they are expected to play the same roles in what is a pretty bizarre system. I think we would have gained alot by just switching to a 4-3-3 for a spell just to see what happens. This system will get old very quickly for me if it continues into 2019.

    2. Overplaying unfit/injured players. He definitely did this with Alli earlier in the tournament and it's the same with Kane. Hook him off if he's struggling. Why did he not come off today for Rashford?

    3. Southgate talks about what Sterling offers the team but continuously hooks him off for players that don't offer the same thing. Every time he does this the team suffers drastically and he doesn't seem to notice. His changes in this tournament have either been awful or way too late.

I was ticked off with Kane's movement in the box. He just stands around waiting for a cross and never gets in behind. The same goes for most of the rest today because we did the same standing around the box rubbish throughout qualifying, which is why we scored only 18 goals. Whenever we play sides like Belgium, Croatia or Germany Kane hardly ever is a factor because he can't sprint on counter-attacks. Belgium were smart in letting us have the ball and counter because we're more of a threat doing vice-versa.

It's frustrating because this was a great tournament, but ended on a sour note getting reminded we still have a long way to go and need to sort out quite a few things. This system worked well with these group of guys, but we'll eventually need to get back to having four at the back and like some of you said, we desperately need a link up from midfield to the final third. That man is Phil Foden/Mason Mount/James Maddison.

Well, one thing I DID notice was that the 5 appearances means he's got an EPL winners medal.

I'm assuming that means that Pep DOES rate him incredibly highly and sees a future for the kid at citeh... and sooner rather than later so maybe you're right.

Hiow do yo rate the chances for RLC, Mount and Hudson I think I'm missing someone as well. Have they got no chance? Or with a new manager and Chelsea being more careful with finances are you more hopeful. The amount of talent Chelsea have let slip away over the years is staggering, it must have annoyed Roman just a little bit.

I think there's a decent chance that Sancho will skip the U21s entirely.

Agreed because the quicker we can get him away from Boothroyd the better

Haha, you can’t make this up can you! I mean we’re all
hoping our best talents somehow bypass the U21’s because there’s a good chance Boothroyd will butcher them. What a travesty!

So ultimately out of 7 games we lost 3, has there REALLY been much of an improvement? I feel a bit of an 'outlier' here but now the World Cup is done I can honestly say I didn't really enjoy it.

RLC was on loan at Palace last year and did reasonably well I believe but, tbh, i think the kid should move.

He's a decent player and looked more effective in England's, (maybe slightly dysfunctional?), midfield but I'm not sure he moves the ball quickly enough for a side that's hoping to be at the very top. He seems to need to get his foot on the ball and then look to make a pass or try and take people on. Guys like young Foden are more the sort of thing we need to be trying to develop.

Maybe Sarri will have some plan for him but, from my perspective as an England fan, I want to see the England kids playing football so whatever that means for CFC, so be it.

TBH I haven't seen much of mount other than the YT stuff which we've all seen but I hear good things about him.

Hudson-Odoi looks a terrific talent and played a big part in the U17 WC win although, tbh, in that game Foden looked the best player on the pitch by a distance.

The only slight question mark I have with Hudson-Odoi is that he's such a big physical lad and can beat the kids of the same age he's been up against thus far so easily on speed and physicality, whether he'll find it as easy when people are as big as him, even if they're not as quick. That sometimes happens with youngsters and then they start to lose confidence.

So again, the kid needs to be playing every week. Maybe, like Mount, he should consider a loan move, possibly abroad, to develop his talent and build up his technique and his confidence against guys who are as big and fast as him?

We seem to be able to beat the 'cannon fodder' more reliably than we could, THAT'S a definite improvement on before.

That's quite a misleading way to look at it, given the nature of the games that we lost. Another way you could put it is that our first-choice side won four out of five and lost the fifth in extra time.

Well, it's interesting to think that, if these were 'league' matches, the Croatian game, (but also the Colombian one), would have been acceptable draws, not a loss and a win.

I suppose you can view it any way you want and I don't think any one way is any more valid than any other but it's important to remember that cup competitions have NEVER been a measure of the best team in the competition.

If they were then 'the double' would be the norm and we wouldn't have WIgan Athletic and Portsmouth included in the list of FA cup winners withing the past decade.

If he can make a big splash at Dortmund then there's no reason why he can't go straight to the seniors.

Watching croatia domintate posession and see how france struggled to put 2 passes together reiterates to me just how underrated england were. Best team lost

All fair points. Take a look at how hudson-odoi did in his premier league cameos. And I saw 80% of mounts minutes. Great shooter from distance and good at set pieces but struggled sometimes with his touch and physicality in mens football. Should come with age but I think itll be 21/22 until we see him in an england shirt.

to be fair can you name many 17 year olds starting regularly in the league or getting sufficient game time ?. the season coming up is the true test for me. he needs to be starting in all the cup games and at least coming off the bench.

Well, 17 year olds is another matter but Mason Mount made 29 appearances for Vitesse, scoring 9 goals for them who's just 19 I believe. That's more the sort of thing I'm thinking of for lads like Foden. Ryan Sessegnon has made 71 appearances for Fulham over the past couple of years and he's only just 18.

That's how these fellas improve IMO.

    But we'll see, obviously :)

He was never going to get it because eight goals were scored with him in goal despite just about all of them were unsaveable, while he made a number of quality saves. I think Courtois is the deserved winner.

That's still only 1.33 goals per game to be fair and, obviously, it depends how effective the lot of in front of you are.

But, yeah... Courtois was better in this tournie.
