How do you think Southgate will approch the game against Sweden . I think he tell tell his players to let croatia have the ball defend deep and hit them on the break . I hear a lot of fans reckon Southgate will get them to press croatia high up the pitch and go at them . I think that would be mistake as I think would allow modric to pick holes in your defense with his passing. Also it would give their wingers space to run in too.

I think Southgate needs to make changes with his team . He can't leave Henderson alone in midfield facing modric and rakitic . You need another body in midfield in Loftus Cheek in place of Ali .

Ali scored today but he contributes nothing in general play . I think Southgate should drop sterling and play rashford out wide to run at loveren . Loveren is croatia's biggest weakness in defense.

Portugal would have been in this side of the draw if they hadnt bottled it versus Iran. A third rate Asian federation team.

    sort it out ,Barry.
Even after we win we have to listen to silly armchair fans from Canada and USA . Our boys are getting banned all over the place. Quality guys like Placid casual and yet this muppet is untouched .

I try to give newcomers a chance and most people on here have dealt with him in their own way. If it goes any further I'll deal with it. If people feel someone is trolling it needs reporting too.

Is this the best an England side has ever been composure wise at a major tournament?

Jordan Pickford is the youngest ever England goalie to keep a clean sheet at a major tournament.

England have scored four or more set pieces in this World Cup.

The last two teams to do that were France in 1998 and Germany in 2014.

Apparently Gareth got put set piece ideas from an nba game

If u see how we lineup on corners it is like an nba side line play

    Oh, no.

I remember England were under tremendous pressure against West Germany in a final and were defending a narrow 3-2 lead in extra time. They managed to gain possession of the ball just outside our penalty area and our captain, (fella by the name of Moore), looked up and, instead of just lumping it ANYWHERE away from goal, picked out our centre forward, (guy called Hurst if memory serves), standing several yards inside West Germany's half and flighted a delightful chipped pass straight to his feet for him to drive forward and power into the top left hand corner of the goal.

    THAT was composure :)

Actually, if I remember correctly, immediately before he scored several people had entered the playing area, (out of shot of the TV cameras because it didn't appear on the coverage), because they thought the match had ended.

But maybe my memory has failed me and that never occurred...

    Edit:

No, it appears my memory is correct :)

I noticed the block at the time but, he's probably right, how many others did is an interesting question.

The guy has been having absolutely MONSTER games at this tournie.

The only thing I'm not sure about is whether he'll need someone else alongside him to maintain possession against Croatia. Against sides that sit back having one guy in the middle, (well, the middle of the middle if you see what I mean), is OK but against Croatia with Modric and Rakatic he might need more help than he's been getting from Alli and Lingard.

The only thing is I'm not sure who that might be.

Dier is the obvious choice but I don't want to change a 'winning formula' so I think maybe starting with the same side and then swapping out if he's being overrun.

Of course, that hasn't been necessary so far because we've had most of the play but if we don't maybe a rethink might be in order?

    I dunno...

    What does everybody else think?

Great piece. Can’t think of a player I want to score more than Raheem in this tournament.
