Here's the new thread. To kick it off:

I like UNC with Emily Fox (out with the 20s for all of August pretty much) coming back. I like Brianna Pinto but I really like Rachael Dorwart.
Virginia has a small but very highly ranked freshmen class. They don't seem to accept transfers in. The freshmen may make an impact. Jarett is a very fast, but smart forward. Spaanstra may be a wingback if they stick with their back three. I don't know the rapids player well, but has gotten some national recognition I think she is a bigger attacking player. I love that McLernon is emerging as a professional if not WNT centerback despite zero YNT call ups until u23.
Not sure Duke's freshmen class will be able to replace the loss of Quinn. But they do have a replacemet in Sophie Jones coming up in 2019. Duke was not the same without Quinn on the field dictating tempo and controlling the game.
Louisville if Ekic is 100% has the addition of a real attacking talent that should play well with her in Ravin Alexander. They were on the bubble to move up a tier last year before Ekic went out.
NC State is on the rise.
Clemson's freshmen class includes some really quality defensive players in Dawson and Mohler.
FSU is picking up top level quality defensive midfield to play and support of Castellanos in Jaylin Howell.
Wake Forest is getting a couple of decent midfielders although I don't know all of their large freshemen class (9) well.
Notre Dame's arguably best player transferred. they have sp,e top recruits coming in for all three lines.
Va Tech picked up a highly ranked ACM who will probably make an impact early. The Canadian kid may be interesting as well. They might provide the boost to improve their results over last year.
Syracuse has picked up a solid defender, but will likely continue to struggle.
    Pittsburgh is a sh** show.
Miami may not be much better.

I am sure I forgot a bunch of kids and issues, but here's a start

Thanks for starting a new thread.

According to SoccerHunter, the ACC's recruiting classes rank as follows nationally:

    3. UNC
    4. Virginia
    5. Notre Dame
    13. Florida State
    15. Duke
    17. Virginia Tech
    23. Clemson
    26. Wake Forest
    27. Boston College

Not sure how the ACC fares in TopDrawer's rankings (I don't subscribe).

NC State graduated just one starter. They did also graduate Jackie Stengel, but she had been injured for most of the last two seasons.

I might be a bit biased, but I think the ACC should get 9, maybe 10 teams into the tourney. So here’s my top 10 acc predictions.

    1) UNC. A very deep team, with solid talent across the board, with no major losses. This could be their year.
Key returnees: Ashley, Fox, Otto, Wubben-Moy, Andrzewjewski, Bailey, Russo.
    Key freshmen: Pinto, Dorwart, Jones

(Next 3 could be any order really)

    2) FSU. Having the best play, Castellanos, combined with key injured players returning, should put FSU back up near the top.
Key returnees: Castellanos, Kuikka, Villalobos, Connelly, Tillman, Carle, Edwards, McFarland, Berkely.
    Key freshmen. Howell, Zhao.

    3) Duke. Talented returning players should be able to keep the blue ddvils near the top. Questions in the midfield will need to be addressed.
Key returnees: Racioppi, McCoy, Stevens, Mitchell, Gyau, Burns, Paschal, Heinsohn.
    Key freshmen: Pluck, Simmons, Mcguirre

    4) Virginia. Tons of backline talent returns. Might miss several key players for the under 20 World Cup. Loss of Ziemer hurts, but lauded freshmen attackers should be able to fill void.
Key returnees: Ivory, McClernan, Westrup, Peterson, Morse, Torres, Brandon, Gorzak.
Key freshmen: Spaanstra, Serepca, Jarrett, Constant

    5) NC State. Talented hard working team that has no major losses from last year’s top 3 team. Will need to find more goals from someone other then Tziarra King
Key returnees: King, Rankin, Guttenberger, Walkling, Porter, Griffiths, Schuster, Keough
Key freshmen: Walker (Ohio st transfer), Butler

    6) Wake Forest. A deep young team that gets a boost from Stanford grad transfer Mariah Lee, along with a good recruiting class. Issues will be in goal, trying to replace all acc keeper Preston. A brutal schedule might knock them down a few notches
Key returnees: Krug, Feist, Laurier, Perreira, Rossi, Brown, Betfort, Ravenna
Key freshmen: gs Lee, DeMarco, Wos, Tagney

    7) Notre Dame. Despite new coach, and key losses, they still have the talent to be higher.
Key returnees: Westendorf, Flores, Heard, Muya, Fisher, Hurm, Ward, Hendricks.
Key freshmen: Martinez, Iternian, Delgado-Heinz, Wingate.

    8) Boston College. A young fast paced team, has loads of potential, but will need to find a strong cb to replace the solid Swaby.
Key returnees: Coffey, Bike, Bryant, Leipzig, J Jennings, K Jennings, Mitchell, Roelfsema
    Key freshmen: Murphy, Duran

    9) Clemson. Always solid defensively, this team oriented squad needs to find help up front for Speckmaier.
Key returnees: Staab, Speckmaier, Maciver, Mackin, Westlake, Antieu, Harkes, Jones
    Key freshmen: Dawson, Wagner

    10) Louisville. Another young exciting team could end up higher depending on recovery of Ekic. Loss of key seniors up the spine will need to be addressed.
Key returnees: Ekic, Rouse, Kouzelos, Rivers, McKinney, Vincent, Whitfield, Ferraro
    Key freshmen: Alexander, Amschoff, Snyder

"Should," of course, is different than "will." 9 is a possibility. 10 never has happened, so it seems unlikely.

Hey, if the big 10 can get 10 volleyball teams into the tourney, and SEC softball can get EVERY TEAM into the tourney, I’d say 10 acc soccer teams is doable

I know, that’s why I didn’t add her to key returnees. But I still think FSU will be able to overcompensate for her loss with the returnees from injury last year

Any idea what percentage of schools have kids training now with the performance coaches and having “captains practices”? Do all P5s do this?

I don’t know of any power5 schools that at a minimum haven’t brought in at least the Freshmen. Most encourage the upperclass leadership to come in early. Usually they can take a classs or two that gets covered under their scholarship. My Daughters team has freshman and approx 10 upperclassman

Not all true. Yes you can start on July 31 only if you took advantage of moving the game from Aug 17th to Aug 16th which the NCAA made adjustments for so that teams could benefit from a Thursday-Sunday game cycle that first weekend. If you did not move your game and kept it on Friday Aug 17th then you can only start practice on Aug 1.

Under 20 WC roster named today! While I’m sure it’s a huge honor for everyone and possibly crushing for those who just missed out, I must say that selfishly I’m super happy Duke will now get Brooke Heinsohn and Taylor Mitchell from start to finish this year! I hated it when players came in early Sept. as it can disrupt chemistry built in July/august. (Eg....Duke 2012. They should have been the unanimous #1 that year with everybody back from the 2011 ncaa championship final. But Molly Pathman and Kelly Cobb missed all of the ooc schedule due to participation in the wc. They came back tired, and Duke was not great. Yes they eventually pulled it together and made another elite eight, but that year shoulda been a natty type year

So Penn State fans don't think it's a big deal, but Boston College dominated PSU 4-1 in their Sunday game. I have to think that gives BC (picked 10th in the ACC) a lot of confidence. I hope that means this year's top 10 will be really competitive and have 10 teams make the ncaa tourney.

As stated above, I dont think you should read too much into an exhibition game. In general the coaches run out every player and put them in different positions/scenario to see if something clicks. Lets hold off on passing judgement for a few weeks. I think theyll be just fine

Indeed! From looking at the stats, it appears that South Carolina came out flat and the Wolfpack was on fire as they out shot the Gamecocks 11-0 for the first half with no score from either team. Apparently South Carolina received an appropriate half time message and turned it around in the second half out shooting the Pack 8-3, but 2 of those three were goals for the home team with SC scoring late to make it 2-1 got he Wolfpack.

Finally a handful of big wins for ACC teams yesterday. Florida State looked like the ultimate title contender, even in the tie against USC. Most impressive performance of the season for any team so far by a lot against UCLA. NC State now has two impressive wins under their belt (they beat #10 South Carolina last week). Wake Forest knocked off #5 Penn State (after tying #13 Tennessee last week). Notre Dame still struggling to find their feet though after getting trounced by Butler (???), falling to Ohio St. 1-0. UNC has a tie against Texas and a win against UCF. UVA hasn't played anyone of note yet. Duke has a tie against Georgetown, but a not so great loss to Illinois.

    Notable Wins:
    #4 Florida State 4 vs. #2 UCLA 1
    #13 NC State 3 vs. #20 Princeton 1
Wake Forest 1 vs. #5 Penn St. 0

Conference play starts this week. . .sorta. . . Hurricane is canceling a lot of the games. Some teams have moved up kick off times to try and accommodate while others have already postponed.

Really big one with UNC @ Florida State tomorrow night
