I have always mixed feeling when the "better team" still loose due to an "all defense" strategy. I hope we will not have to many game like this going forward. It is only "interesting" ( to an extent ) if it is your national team playing.
I hated when Greece or Portugal won the Euro with that kind of strategy ( it felt underhanded ) .

Still penalties can be fun once in a while, congrats to Russia ! They made the best of what they had.

 

The only way to stop it is to call penalties for clear penalties. defend the whole time? You better be spotless.

I agree - I said way back in this thread that Spain had zero pace like Germany and would have to grind this out. They couldn't. Russia would get torn apart by France or Brazil

Spain did nothing as well..keeping the bal possession in middlefield against a team who is all in defense, is not a bug deal.

If Spain was that good to deserve to win, they would have scored a goal and win. They didnt, and they had plenty of time for it.
