I am no fan of penalties which appear somewhat accidental but unless they change the guidance on when to call a handball penalty, that was a penalty.

 

To me (and apparently the refs) it'd make perfect sense that an outstretched hand stopping a shot on goal in the penalty box, whether deliberate or not, is a clear cut penalty.

Read the laws. It’s a DFK for intentional handling , and a PK is the restart for a DFK in the box. The position is used to infer intent (Eg trying to make yourself bigger).

 

Exactly. His arm just shouldn't be there. When you raise your arm like that, you are running the risk of a foul.

Well, the two goals today are appropriate representations of this tournament as a whole. An own goal and a PK. The 2018 World Cup is setting records for both.

Hi, I cannot watch this game and I just heard that it is currently 1-1 which surprise me . Is it the spanish who are "mis-playing" or are the Russian doping, oups, I mean raising their game ?
Or is it maybe one of those wacky game were nervousness overcome both team resulting in a rather whacky game ?

PS : I just red a recap, woah Russia is really dedicated to the success of the WC selfishly making the show scoring for both team and all . I can Imagine the final result : great game by Russia who scored 5 goals ! and only lost by one . It sounds like a joke about Belgium .

Why do players do that? Every defender has drilled in the flailing around in the box is a big risk and you get precisely no benefit from flailing around. It’s among the dumbest moves possible. It’s just so purely stupid it’s hard to react with anything other than disgust.

Russia is oddly slow responding defensively. Spain is just so much quicker. Hard to see Spain not scoring again.
