Oh no he didn't. Sunderland fans are going to go mental... Then again, Sunderland don't look likely to play in the prem for awhile...

I think its a good move for Ki. He can definitely work with Shelve and Rafa might be able to get the best out of him.
Right...so you think he's going to be starting alongside shelvey? My understanding is that he's coming in as a rotational option. As much as i love Ki, if he is coming in to start with JoJo in that starting 11, it's going to be a tough season for Newcastle. I know they're not in good shape anyways financially but thats aaking for trouble imo
I'm unsure. If he starts, then it makes sense to start him alongside Jonjo. It's an odd deal b/c it's only for 2 years.
As a fan, i would be happy with Ki starting with Jonjo. As a neutral objective observer, Ki starting is not going to be a good thing for Newcastle. As much talent as Ki has, his form just isnt great week in and week out. He had 1 really good year back in 2014 and have been super streaky/mediocre in other seasons with swansea (decent for sunderland that 1 year). Newcastle start Ki and not find a better midfielder, newcastle is looking at relegation. Most likely, they will because of their finances. If he is coming to be a rotational guy, he isnt unsitting jonjo and he isnt starting over jonjo unless it's fatigue/rest/injury. Jonjo had a good year under Rafa and jonjo seems to fit well under rafa's system.
I think everything depends on his knee. It's one of those lingering/nagging injuries that he's carried with him since the tail end of when he was at Sunderland. I also think that if he wanted to be a rotational player, he could have gone to another club after seeing out his contract with Swansea. That he chose Newcastle has me thinking he wants to push himself more this season. I guess we'll find out this season. At least we'll still have two players to watch consistently in the prem this season.
