So we have a very close ended match about to be witnessed on 30 June. I feel theres going to be a lot of yellow cards and the game going to the ending few minutes. As both the teams are quite similar with the game play. Argentina would have taken down France but the performance they have been doing in this WC is not upto the mark. Any updates on the lineup for this round of 16 for both the sides ?

To be honest, I sense someone getting sent off in this game. Don't know who or which team, but I feel it. Will likely be the tie of the Round of 16. Arguably the best matchup, although Uruguay vs Portugal will also be very intense.

This really could go either way. I predict that Argentina will find a way to nick it in the end, maybe with something from Messi, or a controversial penalty.

I hope Argentina wins, but France can be a tough team to beat on their day, although they have not looked that good so far. Argentina obviously has problems from the inside as well. Hopefully those problems are not too serious.

I have to think that France is more mentally in it than Argentina but then again, Argentina's wake up call to Croatia and sealing a win against Nigeria may have been what they needed to wake up.

Regardless, I am betting odds on France.

I ve been searching online and France is an overwhelming candidate to win this. Sport journalists, sport sites, experts, betting ods, everyone thinks France will win. Is the first time in a long long time (probably decades) that Argentina is such a heavy underdog, and the first time since probably Arg-Ger quarters in 2010 world cup in were I watch an Argentina game and I think we will lose.

In any case, it will be interesting if this underdog status will influence the players at all, since the heavy burden of "having to win it all" certainly influenced them in 2014, 2015 and 2016 finals.

This is a dilemma for me. Messi is one of my favorite players but it is against France! I wish Messi the best of luck but we have to win this and we have to win it by style.

My prediction/wish: We win 3-1 and Messi scores a world class goal (a FK just like CR7 goal vs Spain).

Disagree with this 100%. The reason why people say this is because France has a great team on paper (not as good as people say though), and probably the most expensive squad. Still though I feel many of their players are overrated: Mbappe, Pogba, Varane, Umtiti, and Giroud to name a few. The chemistry is terrible.

Look at how underwhelming they played in the group stage. I can name 6 teams in this World Cup, that I would favor to beat France if faced them. Maybe Argentina too (7th choice), although because of the Argentinians underperforming, it makes this game 50-50.

Really? I ve been reading everywhere how France is an overwhelming favourite, like no other match i remember Argentina played in decades. Something like 80-20 for France. You are one of the fews that still have faith in Argentina or don't think France is that good.

    Hope you are right!

Yeah I have been reading many of these things as well. Quite a few people do have faith in Argentina, but yeah I know France is a strong favorite for a number of people. I really just do not have much faith in France though. There have really only been two games from the French that have impressed me, since the times of Zidane, Vieira, Trezeguet, etc. And the rest of the wins have been either lucky, or against terrible teams. I sometimes feel that France is one of the luckiest national teams these days. If they were not so lucky with the draw, they might have struggled to get out of their group.

    In 2014:
    -They beat Honduras (rubbish team)
-Beat Switzerland 5-2 (yes impressive game, but that was like the only one)
    -Drew with Ecuador
-Beat Nigeria Controversially (Nigeria was disallowed a perfectly good goal, and their was some controversy on one of France's goals as well).
-Got outplayed by Germany completely and were lucky not to lose by more.

    In 2016:
    -Barely beat Romania (rubbish team)
-Beat Albania right at death (Albania looked good in Euro 2016, but really a mediocre at absolute best)
    -Drew with Switzerland
-Narrow win against Ireland (also not a very good team)
-Great win against Iceland (That was the only other impressive game I saw from them since 2006)
-Beat Germany (so lucky. Germany were clearly the better side, and lost a few key players to injury in the middle of the game which helped the French)
-Lost to Portugal (deservedly so, without Ronaldo).

    In 2018:
-Barely topped a qualification group (lost to Sweden, and drew with teams like Luxembourg and Belarus).
-Barely beat Australia, very lucky in that game.
-Beat Peru by a real lucky defensive mistake.
    -Drew with Denmark

As I said, this team has been very lucky, and are highly overrated. I hope you guys beat them and that we'll finally see what the French are really made out of.

    2014:
    - Beat Honduras, 3-0 but not with ease, as we always struggle in our first match.
    - Raped Switzerland 5-2, losing focus near the end and conceeding 2. Giroud hurt a Swiss player badly though.
    - Drew Ecuador cuz of Deschamps tactics, check it out we always win the first 2 games and then borefest just to make sure we are first.
    - Beat Nigeria fair and square, we struggled and got 2 late goals but they werent controversial. Matuidi could have been given a red card during the game though.
    - Got beat by Germany but not outplayed at all, actually we had the best chances and Germans only scored thanks to a freekick that was a bad ref call.

    2016:
    - Beat Romania, struggled as always like I said, first match
    - Beat Albania struggling aswell til the very end
    - Drew Swiss the same way as Ecuador in 2014 and Denmark in 2018.
-Beat Ireland fairly easily, despite the scoreline, once the 2-1 was scored early, the match was over and Irish didn’t do anything.
    - Raped Iceland, like Swiss in 2014, lost focus in second half.
    - Beat Germany despite being strongly dominated in the first half, but check the match again germans almost didnt have any real big opportunity. That match was tactically mastered.
    - Lost to Portugal not really deservedly as France got the best chances during the match and almost scored just before the end of regular time. Portugal goal was nice though.

    2018:
    - Barely beat Australia after an awful game.
    - Beat Peru without showing much, more cuz they did not have to, but we can be arguing about that.
    - Drew Denmark as always.

I needed to correct some things as they arent true at all.

Given Argentina’s current form France have to be the favourites.
Now I fear the waking up of that Argentinian squad and I think its gonna be very tough! I would say France winning 2-0.

Hi there, here is my perspective on France v Argentina

    - Players Quality : A+ vs A+ ( in average France has better players but Argentina has a couple of outstanding players that could make the difference ).

    - Team-play : C vs B ( Argentina has been shaky lately but France is even less cohesive and is a much younger and inexperienced group )

    - Experience : B+ vs A+ ( france is a match-up of experience and very inexperience players while Argentina clearly relies on its veterans )

    - Coach : C+ vs B- ( pretty bad vs mediocre )

    - Main Flows :
France has a huge potential, but deschamps has not a clue how to use it and create a cohesive team. The attack efficiency is to low to compensate for a lack of cohesion that offers to much opportunities of scoring to aggressive opponents.
Argentina is experience but very "rusty" and uninspired, its flashes of genius rely on individual actions by players such has Messi )

    - Chance of win : 40% vs 60% ( On paper France is better and has potential but I think that a draw or a win for Argentina is still a more likely outcome thanks to Messi and Argentina experience.

    - If France can score first : 1v1 with an Argentinian victory via penalties
    - If Messi score first : 0v2 or 1v3 for Argentina . France has to many greenhorns ( talented but still ) and really need a new coach.

For the sake of the tournament : I would like to see a french win ( if France could break out of its shell it could lead to a more interesting quarter ).

PS : I am not denying France qualities ( it is one of the teams I would like to see reaching the final ) neither do I overestimate Argentina ( this team has clearly peaked a couple years ago and cannot win the cup ). But experience and "tricks" often make a huge difference during this kind of competition. I imagine that without Messi, France might have been more likely to win.
Anyway, I think it will be a very tense and harsh match ( Argentinians can be very violent and french are always physical). French needs to step up and refresh its tactics if it wants to have a chance to win this.

Someone can tell if there are some ATM-like machines for tickets collection? I need to collect tickets in Kazan tomorrow, and I don't have the passport used to reserve them. I do have the credit card + the request ID. Any chance it will be enough?

Another thing it haven't been said about Argentina, despite how they are not playing nowhere near their potential and they lack a proper coach (all true) is that they have the most passionate fans ever. Every game Argentina plays ANYWHERE (one would think this could happen in Brasil, but in remote Russia too? wow) is a home game and is packed with uber passionate fans. Also neutral countries like India or Bangladesh are passionate about Argentina NT and Messi, and those highly populated countries that love soccer and that have no NT teams in the WC always cheer for either Argentina or Brasil and not for the European superpowers.
My point: a lot of World cup passion and fans is gonna be missed once Argentina, that have more fans there and anywhere in the world than most countries, gets kicked out by France. Also Argentina has Messi, probably the most beloved player worldwide.

And Argentina will probably say goodbye to the WC tomorrow. And a lot of the flair of this cup is gonna dissappear.

    Agree to disagree.

France rested its players after seeing a Conmebol squad off the tournament (2nd match date).

France brings enough speed to leave Mascherano behind. 3 yellow cards earned by France vs 6 earned by Argentina, so far.

It will be a good match, nonetheless.

Yes I am aware of that, but even if they started their best team, they likely would have won by like 1-0.

I don't know, France started the brighter side, but after Ronaldo's injury oddly, the Portuguese seemed to look better for most of the match. France did miss some good chances, and yes the one at the end of regular time was almost a winner, but Portugal missed a fair amount of clear-cut chances as well though.

What most people are considering is that even though France chemistry doesn't look right, they do have some youth and speed while Argentina are a bit old and slow in mid / defense. If you give France the counter, that's where they could shine the most.

And that is why I really don’t know what to expect with this game, which makes it very exciting xD
France is more of a counter attacking team while Argentina seem to prefer possession, but we could well see the opposite this time around, as Argentinians will maybe fear France counters and stay in the back, forcing France to do what they struggle to do, which is making the game against a ********ing wall.

If Argentina try to really play their game we could see a lot of goals, and if they stay in the back this match will be a snoozefest.
I think it all comes down to this, which Argentina will show up.

Serious question, i am neither a French or Argentinian NT supporter.

So, when i look at the two rosters, more so Argentina and how they have struggled in all aspects of their game, against lesser quality sides then France will provide, atleast individually.. how does Mascherano/Otamendi/Rojo not get torn apart?

Kante alone SHOULD be able to completely cancel out Messi, which essentially kills any hope Argentina has.. and if i am Deschamps, i instruct Kante to literally shadow Messi all game long and ensure he does not have an impact on the match... the same way Raul Meireles has done in the past to Messi.. Mourinho did to Hazard with Herrera.. there is evidence of this being a good strategy.. why not use it with the talent of Kante?

    on the flip side..

    ----------Giroud----MBappe
    ------------------Griezman

    + Pogba and possibly Dembele

    vs....
    ----------------Masch
    ---------Otamen---Rojo----

How does Argentina not get exposed for their lack of athleticism and youth in this match up?

I fail to see any way Argentina can win this match.. doesnt mean they cant.. upsets happen.. but i fail to see how over 90minutes.. France does not expose the old/slow players Argentina will be fielding..

If Messi plays closer to the goal, Kante won't really be tracking him as much.

I personally have no idea how the Argentinian midfield/CB combo can stop the quickness and athleticism of Pogba,Greizman, Mbappe, Dembele, Kante, Matuidi, or who ever else starts.. given how horrible Mascherano looked v Nigeria..
