1. Fire Löw. The team clearly needs a new voice for it moving forward. They never got out of first gear and his tactics/lineups were consistently wrong. 2. Move to a 4-3-3/3-4-3. This was the direction I thought we were moving towards, but Löw's stubbornness in sticking with the 4-2-3-1 despite Kroos proving his inability to really function in a double pivot and Khedira dropping off a cliff was maddening. This team is going to win with a holding midfielder like Rudy or Weigl or 3 CBs supporting Kroos and Gündoğan/Goretzka to really provide them with freedom to move around the pitch. 3. Renew the team, give the next generation a shot to shine. The team in 2020 needs to be built around the likes of Sanè, Brandt, potentially Havertz, Werner, Dahoud, Süle, Tah, Weigl, etc. Underperforming veterans like Özil, Mûller, Khedira, need to retire, get cut, or re-justify their positions. This was the 2014 core's swan song.
thought you rated muller? For me he is the most overrated player in world football. I think i said that to you on the podcast. Why do you think timo can play at this level?
I like Timo Werner. He didnt play great in this tournement, but he has a lot of interesting attributes. Speed, movement, etc
Not WC discussion, but I don't care, DCU needed a renowned name. @benni... #NoWayneNoGain pic.twitter.com/HfbLmCsBOq— D.C. United (@dcunited) June 28, 2018
So Japan gets through on fair play??? fuk man. I know football isn't just and Senegal had their chances but Japan isn't even better than Poland if we are being real. Wanted to see Senegal in the rd of 16 could have been extremely interesting.
I just dont get the point in spending so much money on one player, when the rest of the team is bad. Especially a player way past his prime.
I'm tired of seeing a bunch of bums on the pitch with no promising names. DCU has been clinging on to its past for so long when they should be right up there with the likes of the Galaxy. Am I supposed to get excited about Ariola?
Not worth the sacrifice under what they have been. But if they can bring an enticing name or two (how about a Brazilian Serie B player that ripe for the picking), I might see a match or two. The environment is kid friendly lol.
Probably has more to do with my opinion of the MLS than it does his form. I think he can still score goals in his current state. He doesn't have to be the player he used to be.
No, still seems a little shaky to me. I haven't seen him tested much to convince me that he is reliable.
I was less high on Müller than I came off in the podcast. I was just pretty much banking on his production in the past for Germany, but the reality is that was four to eight years ago, and although he's still technically in his prime, he just doesn't produce goals and assists like he used to. Same goes for Özil. Feels like between Özil, Müller, and Khedira, they all basically lost the hunger after winning the WC. I was overconfident in their abilities to play well when it counted. Timo can play; he didn't have a good tournament, but I saw enough to be optimistic about his future. This time was just too early.
