He needs more than 5+ years, and it clearly showed since his second term with Seongnam through the U-20/Olympic NT era, and now with the national team. He simply does not cut it.

Are there any rumours in the Korean media for any potential managers?

Not at the moment, but according to this article, Kim Pan-gon and co. are already moving on getting a foreign manager.

From what I'm reading, his contract ended since he failed to fulfill the objectives, which was to reach the Round of 16, so there's no reason for him to stay till July, let alone be given a contract extension. At the moment, the KFA are moving in order to bring in a decent foreign manager.

For Shin Tae-yong, he should be glad that he's able to leave on good terms unlike Hong Myung-bo.

Hiddink or van Marwijk would be the least complicated solutions.

Hope he can become an assistant manager somewhere in Europe and learn his trade. I think he can speak English actually.

That would be phenomenal. On our TV, the commentator said in the 2. game, I think, that STY is a ˝trusted KFA official that jumps in when there's trouble, but lacks the guile of a proper manager˝. One day, he could become a true manager, if he works hard.

I think he can speak English because he used to coach this A-league team in Australia and his son can speak English.

I don't think Hiddink is going to happen. I know he wanted to take over the KNT, but I don't see how Hiddink wants to manage an NT for 4 years. Hiddink (if health is still good by 2022) will want to take over an NT after they qualified or during mids of qualifiers.

He's apparently constantly commenting on Korean NT. To me, that seems he's quite involved mentally, and would like the job, now.

Just because he's constantly talking about the Korean NT, doesn't mean he's willing to be in charge for the next 4 years. If I'm wrong, great. But gut feeling I get with Hiddink is that he wants to take over an NT 1-2 years before the WC, as WC is getting closer. With his legendary status and resume, he can do this.

    as always, an easy checklist

    1. recent stay in western europe: latest football philosophies, tactics, training methods, etc. are always researched, found, shared, and taught in western europe. those who have coached in western european have access to these latest technologies/assistants with these schooling

    2. winning history: coaches who have been proven to be winners. its proof that they can withstand pressure whilst being adjustable to different circumstances. korea has asian cup in 5 months and a coach who can bring immediate results will go a long way

    3. experience coaching in asia: korea is facing asian opponents for the next 3 years. korea needs a manager who have some familiarity with the vast footballing continent that is asia. we cant have some young european coach come here completely clueless on his opponents. also this criteria helps remove coaches who have little interest coaching in korea/asia

exclude some unrealistic targets (those who will be too expensive, those who are too old, those who look too young / ambitious to be with korea for next 4 years, those who have been with his club for less than a few months) and i compiled the following list:
    michel preud'homme
    quique flores
    eric gerets
    christian gross
    zoran mamic
    manolo jimenez
    laszlo boloni
    paulo bento
    paulo sousa

Zoran Mamić would be in jail if he hadn't gone to Saudi Arabia. In Croatia, he, along with his brother, got sentenced to jail time for tax fraud and siphoning money out of a club. NO to him. A No as tall as Mt. Everest.

I would take a manager who hasn't worked in Asia too, but only if he expresses genuine interest to adapt and learn.

i have to admit i knew absolutely nothing about the guy until recently and his history probably leaves him out any of kfas potential list but to be honest a tax fraud doesnt bother me. he wont get out of the country if he were to pull anything similar in korea

no hes not. hes found success pretty much every club hes went to in the past 7-8 years outside of fiorentina where the board gave him very little help. his teams play conservatively but efficiently and he also demands a lot from his players which suits well with korean players

Paulo Sousa was good in minor leagues, that's all. In the real world football he failed big time.

excluding few stretches fiorentina wasnt much better last season under a different coach

asia IS the minor league. the reality is coaches with poorer resume than paulo sousa have found success in asia. he can stabilize korean defence and get the team to score at a more efficient rate. if he were to come to korea my only concern would be his reliance on older players. korea has a bunch of players who will see the end of their physical prime during the next world cup cycle and the new coach will have to transition the team into a younger one during the qualifiers
