He said he told Khedira that he would be benched and Khedira more or less accepted it if it was necessary for team success. Khedira is not the type of player who would make fuss about it. Ive seen tweets yesterday indicating Özil sat deeply sad in the team bus ahead of the game

He looked like we lost the game after the final whistle. No joy in his face at all.

worst pundits for German teams are the British. All of it is jealousy or because as past players they got beaten by Germany.

some even seem to hate us as if WWII happened like a few years ago, lol. Bunch of old geezers.

one of the worst was the Scot Alan Hansen who worked for the BBC. If he "praises" Germany, it's all reluctant.

Only goes on and on about he cannot believe how bad this team or that team was to lose to Germany. And before any Germany game vs a big country, he's always like the other team will win, lol.

Man, what a heart attack of a game this was! We had a lot of bad luck (several missed 100% chances, Rudy injured, two yellows to Boa) as well as good luck (5 extra minutes, clear penalty not given) - I guess it balanced out in the end and the better team won.

I have to say it was absolutely great to see the guys fight their hearts out with their backs against the wall and actually come back from a deficit (can't remember the last time that happened)!

    Hipster:eek:

Mueller and Drax should be benched. Mueller contributes nothing.

People are way too harsh on Boateng imo, I just watched the EPSN guys and Patrice Evra and co... lol

It’s still as clear as lightning that this team needs another midfielder to support the midfield and to avoid those counters
And does it really matter if there’s one less player going forward....?

With 3 CM’s you’ll have Hummels, Boateng and two of these (Kroos/Rudy/Goretzka etc... defending while the rest of the team is attacking
And when Germany gets more control of the midfield, Boa and Hummels will get better as they don’t have to concentrate on covering literally half of the pitch

Yes, this kamikaze strategy will lead to failure at one point
I mean why doesn’t Löw simply just do the same as WC 2014 and EC 2016...?
No Schweini isn’t here anymore but there’s many players who can take over his role
I think Gundogan added flavours yesterday but defensively he was rather poor

although it's mindboggling how 11 men Sweden were still parking the bus against us. They had the man advantage and we were basically playing with 2 at the back and everyone else forward in the last 13 minutes, lol.

But thankfully Sweden’s not anywhere near a good team going forward so Germany weren’t punished as much as they could’ve been

I expect Süle to get a chance against South-Korea btw alongside Mats, dude should get a chance to prove himself

I get the same feeling, whether it's jealousy of German success or still having hard feelings over WW II, Germany gets the same schtick over and over again. Germans play like robots, no passion, machine like. All passive-aggressive forms of praise.

at the last WC when we won, you could see how irritated they were that we made the final and won. While England has been flopping for decades

plenty were annoyed that Gotze scored with the hardest attempt on goal in the final while easy chances for Argentina bombed. Which not only showed technical skills but also that we are still producing talented players. It's like they want us to stop mass producing players, lol. Sorry but the mass production of players doesn't seem to be done anytime soon. They didn't seem happy about our continuous deep runs in WCs either.

the type of praise we usually get, is how we know how to get the job done and don't give up. That's kind of it.

their reactions at Jupp's Bayern trashing Barca 7-0 on aggregate was also hilarious, as if it was nothing but a fluke. Sore biased losers.

We played like this in wc2014 until the quarterfinals. Same in ec2016 until the match with Italy.

I think in this WC Löw will not have time to screw around with the 4-2-3-1 much longer.

You have to remember that WWII is the last time england was important on the world stage...unlike Germany that is becoming ever more globally significant...and it is one of the only moments in their history that they can remember without massive shame.

So it has been defied in their culture to such an extent that a thousand years from now "englishmen" will still be talking about "the war" as though they fought it themselves.

concerning WWII, it's not just the English. I always see plenty of derogatory comments about why would they support a bunch of Nazis in football? Even some were said to me in person, lol.

some pundits without saying it, act like that's their reasoning for hating us.

Durmaz the Swedish player who fouled Werner and what led to be the winning goal. Has gotten tons of racists and death threats, some even threatening his family.

how ridiculous/disgusting some people get, over a sport.

Watching Gïnter play for Dortmund was a nerve-wracking experience every time. I at least trust Rüdiger's athleticim, physicality, and aggressiveness. I trust nothing about Matthias.

Why do you write Ginter with an ï? Just curious, have seen it several times.

As someone who loves both cultures I find it sad that so many Britons (mainly the English) have this weird fixation with Germany and their imaginary rivalry, as they are both culturally very similar, in fact I remember that famous episode of Fawlty Towers "Don't mention the war" was intended by John Cleese to be a criticism of the anti-German bias so prevalent in British culture but many missed the joke. But there is still hope for the future as I've seen interviews with several British youths who have a positive view of the Germans.

It's always been strange one as in my experience many Germans are anglophiles who rather distrust the french than the english
