although they both can play CM, AM and are similar height. Havertz's playing style as of now is closer to someone like Ozil. But who knows, he's still only a kid, he could later end up being closer to Ballack when he develops more and gets experience.

at this rate, we seem headed towards Ozil, Khedira, Gomez gone, Draxler should join them too. I think it's for the best, time for the next gen to bring their game. Integrate Havertz, Gnabry and Sane to the NT. Gomez being gone, opens up his spot to those strikers who did well this past season. Khedira is just a corpse.

Hummels and Boa also seem headed towards being done.

 

If Gomez was kept for his locker room presence, I think there could have been better options.

However, the tone of the game changed when he subbed in.

What better options? Gomez is a good traditional striker.

 

who else? He's been in the NT since 2007, only tournament hes ever missed was the WC14 because of injury. Decades of 1BL, CL, NT experience.

he did change the game. Werner became a ton more efficient playing off of him, everyone became better when he came on. Gomez always draws defenders to him like a magnet, which opens up space. He has a more physical aspect to his game that the other players lack.

look at Stuttgart, once he went there this season, they went from almost relegation to almost making EL. Made a huge difference even when he doesn't score.

 

Let me start by saying I was one of the posters on BS battling against the pejoratives lobbed at him while he was with us.

He just seems so soft spoken in his interviews.

 

People hate the guy excessively. I admit he didn't do well for a stretch of time for the NT but it seems like he got better for Germany the older he got....like most strikers do. One has to remember that Gomez started the NT at the same age Werner did, where there is still a ton of room to grow and develop. And he's still the most successful German striker in recent years.

Id play Gomez up top in the next game and Werner on the wing/behind as they play for their clubs and leave Brant as a super sub.

Too much of the ball is crossed high by Kimmich and is wasted without a target man.

Id play with Rudy in defensive midfield with Kroos, against a stronger opponent id add some defensive solidity Gundagon or physhicality Grotzeka.

Gundagon though I fear, lacks his old magic after his injuries, is slow to get back, chooses the wrong options and too many sideway or back passess.

For the goal, Kroos again did not fully track back after giving the ball away, but did much better than last time, Rudiger who has pace/strength but positionally unwise was too slow to come around, ultimately though was unlucky as did get the block in, the ball looping over the keeper.

If I recall correctly, Kroos also allowed an opposition player to escape on the Swedish chance just before half time which Neuer saved.

Muller showed more promise but still not enough, id give him one more chance against Korea.

Kimmich played only 5-6 high crosses all match against Sweden.

 

Generally most of our attacks come down the right, Kimmich is a good crosser of the ball, it stifles our attack when he either delivers the ball into the box without a target man or cuts back as lacks that option in the box.

So Gomez though I dont rate him highly provides an ariel or physhical presence in the box which we otherwise lack.

I hope Low now sees his mistake, he is getting a second chance now. He benched ozil and khedira a great move, now he needs to bench Draxler and Boateng(he cannot play anyway). Most of these players play because of past glory and name and not because of current form. Even Muller is close to being benched for me. Low should have called and/or integrated players like Brandt,Sane,Goretzka even Gnabry in the team in the qualis instead of pushing the same dead weight ozil,khedira,draxler and co.
