Hasebe at CB is kinda the answer to where you put somebody with sound tactical understanding, positioning, versatile skills but isn't particularly fast.

Great display from Australia so far against France.

@Saku² why Payet isn't included in the France squad?

    What about Benzema?

I think Deschamps rates both Giroud and Thauvin ahead of Benzema, but I cannot a find a reasonable justification of Payet's omission.

    Any insights?

    This VAR is fiasco.

The referee gifted a phantom penalty to France by VAR.

Minites later, justice is made (or the referee is trying to make up for his horrendous mistake) as Austraila was awarded a penalty and leveled the score 1-1.

Time for Cahil to come in late to kill this useless and overhyped French team.

These overhyped youngsters in the France team are disgraceful.

Mbape, Ousamane Dembele and Pavard are the ones who I am talking about.

It is a phantom penalty because even after the VAR it was clear that it is not a penalty.

France would be at least a level higher if Benzema was there. Neither Giroud nor Payet are as good as Benzema.

Payet is playing in different position than both Benzema and Giroud.

Anyhow, France performance improved after the both Giroud and Matuidi subbed in.

The Australian player's first leg was directed towards the ball, while the other one hit Grizeman unintentionally. So, No PENALTY.

Iceland managed a draw against Argentina. Japan need to take notes of how to set up their defence like Iceland today and Iran yesterday. Of course, Japan lacks their physicality. Nevertheless, they should take note of how they managed to defend against the free-kicks and corners, etc.

Missed the ball and unintentional or not, it forced Grizemann to fall in the box.

LOL Peru played like Japan used to. Get several chances, blow them all and lose.

Well, if a player fell down by an unintentional challenge by another player then it is not a foul/penalty.

Unintentional challenge? He challenged for the ball but missed. It's unfortunate but smallest contact forced Grizemann to fall at the end...

I don't like the call, it is soft penalty & waste of time to verify using VAR (while stopping the game).

Intention doesn't matter. Say a player slips and collides into an opponent, knocking him over it's still a penalty.

That's what I meant, he intended to challenge for the ball not to tackle Griezman.

His challenge for the ball was intentional, his tackle on Griezman was not intentional.

No, if it is accidental (not intentional) no foul is to be counted. This is an undisputed rule.

Sorry but in which world do you live? I don't wanna be harsh and I was totally uninterested in the topic but unintentional or not if you tackle and put down an opponent on your area it's penalty and stop.

In terms of intention that is only brought in when considering cards or when it's a handball

absolutely no complaints from me if you replace griezmann with inui being tackled by a coloambian.

never slide tackle in the box like that. play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
