    Three senior caps and one goal now. I figured it was time Weah had his own thread.

    Sounds like he only lived there from age 4 to 6 though:

    The family moved in 2004 to the Pembroke Pines, Florida — a suburb of Fort Lauderdale, then in 2006 to the Rosedale section of Queens, New York, near the Nassau County border. Tim stayed for eight years, then relocated to Paris to join PSG's academy.

    I didn't know he moved back that early. They said his first club was in Pembroke Pines.

    Weah is still not valued as a prospect by many in here and in the media. But he continues to force his way in. It is hard to judge if he has a driven mentality or just unbelievable confidence. We will have to wait until something goes wrong for him and see if he battles out of it.

    It is interesting that his Dad seems to be very hands off about Tim's soccer. It is brave or incredibly confident that Tim goes by Weah, he could play under his mother's name for instance like Zidane's kid (IIRC), and avoid all the expectations and discussion.

    Your dad can open doors but that's it. The rest is up to the kid. I'm sure his dad helps him in the way that any dad helps his kid - with a little wisdom gained from life. It will be interesting to see who emerges to win the striker spot in 2022, Weah or Pulisic.

    anyone have a GIF of Weah's absurd pass-to himself using his chest; ... against Ireland?

    Yeah, I found that interesting, too. And not at all what I was expecting to hear from Weah Sr.

    Well, it might keep him out of the limelight to a certain degree, but enough to avoid all the expectations and discussion? People are eventually going to find out who his old man is. Kind of hard to keep that kind of thing under wraps.

    Doesn’t make him a striker. He’s pretty clearly a midfielder imo.

    I see him scoring goals in the final third. What does he do in the middle third that makes you think he is a midfielder?

    I'm cautiously optimistic. I've liked what I've seen from Timothy Weah at the U-17 level and in his senior caps this spring. He seems to have the confidence you want to see in an attacker and he has good skill on the ball and a killer instinct to want to attack. He obviously needs to continue to develop with PSG, but we desperately need more attacking talent in our pool at forward and on the wing to supplement Christian Pulisic, and Weah could be a critical piece going forward.

    The way I see it, Pulisic and Weah are both the type who will not do much defending for us and if we play with a 9 like Jozy or Sargent (which was common among good teams at wc, e.g. Giroud, Manduzik, Lukaku) we will probably only have room for one starter, Pulisic or Weah. The Griezman spot would probably go to somebody like Adams who can stop opponents in addition to attacking or do attacking midfield chores. Hopefully Adams/Carleton/Wes could progress to that level and do some of the scoring.

    In real life, we glide through Hex playing both Weah and Pulisic plus a 9 and we get to the WC and it's 2006 again - or 2018 for Germany. ("all's well, la-dee-dah, we're so good we can do anything")

    That's possible, but if we move to a 4-3-3 set up with one true striker and two nominally wide attackers, there should be room for both a Pulisic and a Weah.

    The key here is that they need to be supported / backed up by a competent central midfield trio that covers enough ground and provides enough defensive bite and ball winning ability to free up those front three to attack. I think we have a young pool of talented central midfielders who could help us deliver on that promise in the future, with guys like Weston McKennie, Tyler Adams, Kellyn Acosta, Keaton Parks and Chris Durkin.

    I could envision a long-term future starting line-up (i.e. post-2019) that resembles something like this:

    Pulisic---------------JS/BW/JA----------------Weah
    ----------------Adams-----------Acosta----------------
    ------------------------McKennie------------------------
    LB------------------------------------------------------RB
    ---------------------CB------------CB---------------------
    -----------------------------GK-----------------------------

    JS = Josh Sargent
    BW = Bobby Wood
    JA = Jozy Altidore

    What do you think about Sebastian Soto? I like his game better than Weah or Sargent.

    Where's the offense with Adams, Acosta, McKennie? Are we going to another cycle without a CAM? Adams should play RB. Thats his best position. Put Parks and Carleton in-front of McKennie, and we are in business, although I'm still not sure about Weah on the wing. He might be in the CF competition. Could we play with two strikers? How would that work?

    I have no clue about Soto but I doubt he is better than Weah or Sargent. i'll look for him and let you know. Weah will be a really good player for us. With Sargent it is really how fast he will be able to play. He has the mentality. Can he connect his brain to his body under pressure? We don't know til we see him in BL. Weah is so good at positioning himself and his ability to connect with crosses is worth gold in itself. I believe he will replace Pulisic as a starter, if he doesn't opt for Jamaica, which I would recommend to him, because I think Jamaica has a better chance of qualifying than we do. The qualifiers for 2022 will likely by Mexico, Jamaica, Canada + 1.

    Who is the playoff with in 2022, does anybody know yet? We would not have beat Australia.

    for me it is

    ------------------------Jozy/Sargent
    -------------------------------------------------Weah/Pulisic
    -------------------McKennie
    -------Adams-------------------------Delgado------------Gressel/Lletget
    -----------------------------Trapp
    ----------------Parker-----Miazga-------EPB
    ----------------------------gk: Steffen

    Sarachan could play the above against Mejico/Brazil and see how it works, except for Gressel who I'm guessing does not have a US Passport yet so Lletget could step in. Subs for offense if trailing: Carleton, Weah/Pulisic.

    The distributors here are Trapp and Delgado who can hit a multitude of targets, all of them goal scorers, while at the same time they knit the defense together with Trapp moving to the left or right depending on which wb was too advanced to defend and Delgado moves into the pocket left absent by Trapp which is what he does for Toronto.

    p.s. edit: Steffen just got an offer from Bristol City in UK. He should forget about any offer to play in a higher league if it means sitting on bench. Your views?

    My view is that Craft should repay the minutemen who gave their lives (so he could make billions to buy Sevilla) by bringing Steffen to NE where he can play for Friedel

    Soto scored 46 goals this season. He was the best player in the U-19 DA. Rumors have him signing with Gladbach. Seems like it'll be the first team, as well. He also scored two goals off the bench for the U-20's today against a USL team. He's a newer name for most. He's making people learn his name now.

    I'm happy to see BL going with latinos. . I think that is the right mix for them.

    I think we are overrating Parker because he had a couple of decent matches against international competition. Wouldn't be in my starting lineup. Might not even be on the bench. I saw him look like an amateur the other day in MLS play. He's one of the better CB's in MLS, but I'm not convinced he's going to be able to push out the young core of CB's.

    I would put Adams on the right, D. Acosta/Robinson on the left. Natural lefties, both are athletic, skilled going forward, Acosta can also defend. Both are good options. What is Gressel really going to add other than crossing? Lletget is not a wingback.

    I think the only attacking chances that team is going to get are from counters and crosses from the wing-backs (maybe thats why you have Gressel). Delgado can link play, but he's not a creative guy. McKennie is not a creative guy either. I think he's more of a #6, but I don't have an issue using him now as a #8. If he's the #10, we aren't going to have much creativity centrally.

    I'm not against the two CF idea. I was suggesting this idea the other day for the U-20 side. We have Sargent, Weah and Soto as options for the U-20 WC (they won't be available for qualifying). We need to find a way to get two of those guys into the side, considering they are some of our best players. I like the idea of Weah as a secondary striker running off more of a target guy. He could also be used as a CF in an attacking 4-3-3, but he's not a hold up guy right now. Sargent/Soto(likely Soto)-Weah is what I'd suggest for the U-20's. None are options for the senior team yet, IMO, and there are older/younger options, as well. But I've never had an issue with a two CF formation. Some do. If thats what our player pool suits, why wouldn't we use it?

    We are so far apart, it would take a book to explain the differences. Delgado isn't "creative"? Amateurs think "assists" are creative but it's usually the pass before the pass that sets things up.

    Gressel reads the right time to go forward and the right time NOT to go forward.

    I had to put Adams on the right or left but the fact is that I would move Adams all over the place and play him right or left depending on what the competition was. I can't show that in a lineup, sorry. Sombody would have to get to Adams. I could do it. I'd start here: Where are the offers, Tyler?

    "Over-rating Parker " - because Mbappe couldn't get by him? I"ve said it before: Parker isn't all that great in the box but he's a heck of a CB in midfield. For me, Acosta and Robinson are old fashioned fullbacks who will see their roles diminished going forward as innovators in the game come up with a re-invention of the fb role. That's not to say I don't think Marcelo is the best fb in the world. But now we are getting into a longer discussion. In the meantime, I think Parker did a great job on Mbappe when France played the ball in behind Robinson (ahem, cough, cough). B.t.w., Sarachan haters, note the job Parker in a 3cb defense did on Mbappe in midfield.

    As far as McKennie is concerned, his diagonal ball out of the 10 position is superb (remember, Pulisic/Weah/Adams can all play right or left coming out of a wide position so the diagonal ball is key)and he can fall back into defending as a 3rd dmid when that is required. He is a pivotal piece in my system.
