[International Friendly] Korea vs Bolivia 2018/06/07 [R]

I'm trying to consider the fact that we played Bolivia in the midst of undergoing intensive fitness sessions in high altitude.

LSW did seem like he wasn't really running by the time he got substituted. I still think he was taken off about 10 minutes too early. But why didn't STY just start LJS instead of wasting critical minutes on MSM? We should be giving the starters, LSW, SHM, HHC, LJS and KSY as much time to find a rhythm right now and take them off when they're tired. Who cares if the scouts from our group opponents are there? They're not even bothering to play friendlies to prep against us. What is this "trick" nonsense that STY speaks of with KSW?

Why is he swapping GKs? I can almost understand substituting JHS. But still.. Changing GKs to a third GK that will not play a single minute in this world cup?

For once, can STY stop trying to be clever or blame his players? Another wasted friendly where we gained absolutely nothing.

The usual pro-domestic crowd that loves to vilify foreign based players were biznatching about how Son is too selfish, emotional, not sacrificial like PJS was, etc. for some time now. They're stirring the pot. Remaining remnant of when Korea was a third world country, why we were invaded by Japan, and why Yi Soon Shin was jailed and tortured.

So apparently the Mexican team was allover the news with this casa de puta news. Apparently many of the players are married and their wives found out about all this on the news.

Suffice it to say they will have a lot on their minds this tournament, much of it not on the games themselves.

Im sure if they do poorly this tournament, they will have a perfect scapegoat for all of it.

Yeah I've mentioned this before but we had been lacking in a lot of speedsters. For the last past decade, the KFA was interested in producing "possession" based footballers.

 

Ahn Hyun Bum should've been tested when he won the young player award 2 years ago. A really fast player with good crossing skills. Too bad he had a little form drop im 2017.

MSM really seems like a wasted spot to me... yikes. Incredible how someone like MSM makes the WC squad based off of one good season. It's hard to believe that there's a good chance of LSW playing or even starting in all three games.

In my opinion, he cannot adequately communicate with the players, because the translator isn't trained in translation. When I watched his translation work while Stielike was being interviewed during a public forum, most of the translation was only a summary of what Stielike said and lacked sufficient detail.

 

It's not the manager, but rather the football association. They manage to keep a repository of knowledge they gained from prior managers such as Hiddink. Australia had by far the fittest team at the last Asian Cup, and if you look at the interviews with the members of the 2006 squad, they mention how their confidence got higher the longer the match went on, and how they increased their pressing during the extra time knowing that they were fitter. Korea failed to carefully steward and build on the knowledge their players acquired during the Hiddink era. This seems to partly explain why they felt the need to hire Verheijen for stints shortly before three World Cup torunaments as they had nobody in-house who was deemed to posses the necessary expertise. Furthermore, management-wise and in terms of the culture and political rivalries in the association, things seem to have reverted to old ways as if Hiddink had never worked there. Trust me, if Stielike had Grande and Minana as his assistants, he would have gotten much more out of these players, because what they lacked was the physiological expertise needed to gain advantage over their opponents. I would say that out of all World Cup teams who have qualified for more than 7 or 8 tournaments, it is Korea that never seems to be able to put all the pieces together, except for the sole exception when Hiddink managed to convince the KFA to loosen the pusestrings to pay for the best medical and training staff. The infrastructural knowledge is too far lacking, and of course it is no surprise if there are such infrastructural inferiorities compared to countries that are sporting powerhouses. If Australia continues on this trajectory, I don't see why they can't dominate Asian football for the next several decades.
