Wright's situation https://www.wp.de/sport/fussball/s04/so-steht-es-um-die-sieben-schalker-leihspieler-id214131457.html seems like the obvious route is the answer, he's likely to get another loan next season. With an expiring 2020 contract, makes one wonder if the 2nd loan is Wright's last chance at Schalke.
This season is too late, I think Wooten's return from injury has made it that Wright is irrelevant for the remaining season. Has failed to make the last 4 matchday squads. Has played what? 90 minutes in total since Dec???
looks like injured himself pulling a hamstring and thus not eligible for this weekend anyways. https://www.svs1916.de/aktuell/nach.../detail/News/noch-einmal-alles-raushauen.html
Haji is returning to Schalke.... Google Translate: Haji Wright will leave SV Sandhausen and return to his home club Schalke 04. The attacker was loaned by the SVS in the just ended season, but there will be no further cooperation, as the sports director Otmar Schork confirmed on Tuesday. At S04 Wright is still under contract until 2020.
he's likely going back on loan, which to be honest always seemed like the option for next season after this season. On top of that Schalke have just bought a striker that was tied in 2nd place for 2BL top scorer.
Why not the Dutch league? Bundesliga 2 seems to be a pretty ruthless league in regards to developing foreign players.
I've forgotten about so many of these guys now that Pulisic, Palmer-Brown, Weah, McKennie, Parks have come into the fold.
For a dude that has now probably adjusted to life in Germany, switching to a completely different country seems pretty brutal. 2. Bundesliga seems fine to me if the team isn't Sandhausen.
450k euros a year minimum for non-EU nationals, but he might escape that; IIRC players below 21 are not covered by that rule.
can anyone give some insight on returning "early" from his loan? were shalke unhappy with his progression and/or playing time (or lack thereof)? were sandhausen? or was it some just a general "this isnt working great for anyone"? was it as simple as being a 1 1/2 or 2 season loan? thats all curiosity, but is this a pretty bad sign about his future at shalke?
Not sure where "early" came from, because it's pretty routine for loans to be one season at a time. As for why his loan isn't going to be renewed, I think it's pretty obvious he wasn't playing nearly enough to make it worthwhile for Sandhausen or Haji's development. This wasn't a trial, loan with an option to buy type loan, since there was no option to buy, that I recall when it first happened. I think someone from Schalke's technical staff had just moved to Sandhausen, which was one reason they felt comfortable sending him there in the first place. Presumably, they could get an honest insider opinion of Haji's time there. Unfortunately, it didn't work out.
the headline, or possibly tweet referring me to the short article i saw referred to his return to shalke as early so i guess that could be as good an answer as any...it wasnt "early"
As @BostonRed pointed out, Eredivisie rules (450k Euros a season minimum salary) make non-EU foreigners very expensive unless they're very, very good. There may be some exemptions for under-age players, but that rule puts/would put an overall damper on moving non-EU players into Holland. And all leagues are pretty ruthless inn developing any and all players, domestic, foreign, foreigners that don't need visas, foerigners that do, etc. It's an up-or-out industry
Correct me if I’m wrong but the non-EU minimum salary is lower for players 21 and under And If a club loans a non-EU player to an Eredivisie club, the parent club can subsidize the salary to reduce the burden on the Dutch club (I believe Agudelo’s salary at Utrecht was subsidized by Stoke)
yep and this is the link which had quoted "early" SBI used to be great and a must-read, now more or less it's just meh https://sbisoccer.com/2018/05/schalkes-haji-wright-to-return-early-from-loan
https://www.ed.nl/psv/gemiddeld-eredivisie-inkomen-voor-seizoen-2017-2018-278-500-euro~a0ef4eef/ For the coming season 2018-2019 the minimum salary for 18-19 year olds is 208875 euro (roughly 235000 $). The day they turn 20 the salary jumps to 417750 euro (470000). Who doesnot want such a birthday present Subsidize in the sense they can pay the contracted salary up till the point of the minimum wage for the player. Otherwise the ruling can be dodged. So the club always has to pay at least the minimum wage.
Is that the borrowing (i.e. Dutch club) has to pay the $470k with the parent club only able to start paying once the Dutch club has paid that amount?
