I saw this article and decided to start a new thread about what the fans of other teams do when their clubs fail to perform. Not for #SaveTheCrew activity. And, i guess it would be ok to include Quakes fan protests, but judging by past reactions to posts I have made, I don't think that would ever happen.

Anyhow, Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, where Fredy Montero now plays, had a bad week. Not only did fans invade the locker room, but the club president got into a twitter war with players.

The only example you could find is one where fans attack their own team?

Protests? Really? Sounds more like assault and other criminal mayhem. Unless you have some hidden desire to go all gangsta on the team why give these types of examples?

The San Jose Ultras have engaged in a number of protests over the years, without resorting to violence. These have generally been prompted by grievances other than merely poor play.

As I recall, Philadelphia Union fans did some protest marches and the like a few years back to underscore their dissatisfaction with the team's performance. Years later the team remains mired in mediocrity.

Either that, or compared to Sporting Lisbon fans, we are just a bunch of kitty cats.

I think it's safe to say that the passion exhibited by sports fans in the US tends to be much more restrained than that in many other countries!

I think it's just different here. Fans beat and stab each other over baseball and American football rivalries in the US. Soccer is still a glorified niche sport here. Fan culture reflects the nation's culture. So in Europe, there is more collective action. Here, in the more individualistic US, people take it out on each other in one on one violence.

The greatest protests against SJ's abject team quality are the rows of empty seats and advertisements for 2018 season tickets this late in the season with ManU at way reduced prices.

    Pathetic.

United fans were most bothered by the crippling debt the Glazers put on the club to purchase it, since the club had been debt free until that point. The fans thought the debt would inhibit the club's ability to buy the players they would need to be competitive. Season ticket prices did rise after the takeover, but, that was just one reason of several fans had to protest.

    • The Casbah used to wear paper bags over their heads toward the end of the season when it was clear that we wouldn't make the playoffs again.
    • There was a notorious game where we started chanting for bench players, specifically: "We're high on Krak!" Which did indeed induce the idiot coach into subbing in Krak.
    • Posters of course, demanding the coaches head.
      <whoever> OUT!
Saw that one in Portlandia more than once.
That's just off the top of my head.
    • Fans could wear Clash gear to games.

The Ultras had derisive cheers for bench warmers, as well. "Sealy is the F*cking MVP" is among my favorites. :)

Don, it wasn't derisive. We were sucking wind, as usual with Loathsome Lothar coaching us. We were such crap we wanted him to try something, anything different. So chanted for Krak and we got him. And then we started chanting for Dario, who should have been a lock starter in any case. Lothar subbed him in for Azzizi instead of playing them both at the same time. We frequently lined-up in a 5-3-2, that's how shitty we were.

    Go Quakes!!

The Ultras' cheers at Buck Shaw were evidently hard to discern as derisive. Mike Fucito was warming up behind the goal one time and smiled and waved when they did the MVP chant for him. The coach was not persuaded, however, and Fucito never entered the match. :)

I don’t understand the joke. I watched the first 3 of 6 minutes and didn’t see anything funny or persuasive?

I don't believe the video was intended to be funny, but rather to show the event was fun, and it succeeded in my estimation.
