After looking at the resume not sure the mercer assistant coach has the resume to be a HC, would think there would be interest from more qualified candidates.
JU wants a female although there are ties within the athletic department to Longwood. It’s not a great job although it looks it on paper- underfunded and under supported by the admin plus a $50,000/year price tag makes it not so attractive.
Would agree and also add that they have a very young AD who according to parents has been cleaning house in the admin as well. With in the team, it sounds like this was mostly disgruntled older players, mostly seniors, who didn't get the playing time they felt entitled to, picked on the new players in the program, and ultimately trashed Copham to the AD ... whoever they get might be walking into a bit of a mess from all sides as clearly there are external and internal issues to be dealt with.
Heard a few fairly successful male canidiates inquired about Jacksonville and were told no thanks. Pretty good sign sign of the direction of the search.
Supposedly Megan Novak from Wilmington is being considered for the position so interesting you had heard they were moving away from male coaches.
Interesting that Megan Novak is in the running. According to someone on this blog she was too stressed this spring to be around the team at Wilmington. How is she going to be when a program is completely hers.
Since none of the three were offered interviews and I believe all have current jobs, I don't want to put it out there. Also it was second hand info from a Jax area club coach for what its worth. As an earlier poster mentioned it was a mess this past fall so it will be interesting to see who wants to walk into that.
Ju was a mess because ad/admin failed to support a veteran coach. Did coach forget how to manage a team? All of a sudden change character? Probably not. They had some good competitive years. So they lose a few more games, kids cry because they don’t play and the ad gives them a voice? Why? Happens more and more? Weak admin. I can see if it is a young coach and things go sideways, yes, make a change. But veteran coaches are usually pretty consistent. Consistency in a coach is pretty good. Unless of course Ju ad has no perspective? That is pretty prevalent with ads now too.
Pretty quiet with a few jobs open...any rumors flying around? I've heard a few names on the WMU job but nothing beyond that: Stew Givens - Central Michigan Asst. Good man. Wouldn't cause issues. Good coach. Andy McCaslin - Ferris State (D2) Head Coach. Was there a few years back. Would be a good hire. Good guy, great coach. Sarah Stanczyk - DePaul 2nd Asst. Would be a stretch but who knows what admin is thinking. Kyle Farris - WMU Interim HC - Wants it. Likely not ready for it. Cliff Brandmier - Former WMU 2nd asst. - Big again in the club scene in MI. Would be a disaster for those kids. Anyone hearing other names floating around?
It’s buried on the JU HR page. It’s not on the NCAA job market or NSCAA jobs page. Makes me think that they know who they want to hire so they made the link hard to find.
UNCA Has offered the position out to twice to coaches in the Big South Conference. Two have turned it down. JU Will make an announcement soon.
They are actually going to reopen the search in all probability. Final offer made yesterday and if the candidate says no they are going to say it’s a failed search and open it back up.
Pay was in the $40-50K range. They aren’t fully funded (or even close). Tough to hire an experienced and proven coach with those numbers.
Not quite 100% accurate, the salary is about right from what I understand, but there are 9-10 scholarships available. They will name their coach this week and the budget is on the lower end of the big south. Either way, nice place but hard to move up in the standings, but maybe a little easier with Liberty gone and Hampton and Upstate joining.
It’s not an easy place to win for sure but with 9+ scholarships the right person can still compete there then move onto a better position like the previous occupant.
They do not have 9-10 scholarships. They are in the lower end of scholarships and budget in the big south. But it is a great place and with the right coach in place, they can have success.
