    I'm gonna repost this to see if you can grasp the irony here. I've added bolding to help you out.

    P.S. Since this is the customer service forum, thanks for "deleting" my account, dark knight.

    This is Bigsoccer in a nutshell. The top mod spelling Liberal with a capitol L but Conservative with a lowercase c and stating conservatives have bad opinions.

    The P & CE thread has been scrubbed many times of any dissent of "liberal" views while leftists are allowed to throw their tantrums.

    I guarantee you "hick" is an acceptable term here. Guaranteed.

    Game 1 is in DC, so... there. I don’t want any possibilities of anything good happening for EITHER team, so do it early.

    I could also be persuaded to have it happen in the twelfth overtime of game 7.

    I'm not going to defend Fiosfan since he should have just changed the sig when asked.

    But I think there is an issue here. There is an increasing tendency not to disagree with opposing ideas but to suppress them.

    Nationalism vs. globalism is a debate being played out around the world. How should we refer to people who are broadly on one side or the other.

    Nationalism -> Nationalists
    Globalism -> ????

    What is an acceptable word that conveys the same meaning? What I think is happening is the establishment in the US is strongly in the globalism camp but are not finding their position persuasive in the broader population. I think therefore they are trying to shut down the ability to express that position by making words that recognize the distinction unusable.

    Read between the lines. That's exactly what I got from it.

    And what's the level of discourse in Colombia?

    If this were my class and you were my student I would require you to go back through the thread and write out the reasons the moderators have repeatedly stated for why he was banned. I would also have you document the number of times moderators have explained that the term "globalists", on its own, is not the problem. What puzzles me is why that is so difficult to understand, evidenced by so many people continuing to misrepresent what the moderators say and did.

    It is a cesspool, as always... But we haven't reached the level of arguing about lowercase letters

    Context matters.
    That would be fitting and peak DC sports.

    Because this is part of a bigger argument. We, as a country, are going through a process of deciding what is, and is not, allowed to be said. Admittedly, a soccer forum is probably a bad place to have this discussion but the reality of the world is that this discussion is going to keep breaking out.

    I know what the moderators said, and I'm working to figure out what they actually meant, since a lot of different things were said. If the issue were simply that he's too political, then let's ban political commentary here, I'm fine with that. If it's that he's political, and obstinate, and said something that some people interpret as anti-semitic, OK, then sure. But there's a whole lot of people around here who political and that doesn't seem to be enough so it seems to me how we talk about the issue is germane.

    I have no intention of using the word, but if I did, in a polite manner, would it get me a red card now? If it would, then the word's the issue.

    Great. It was a deliberate slight and shows where this forum leans.

    There are an awful lot of people here arguing in favor of fiosfan who are clearly unfamiliar with his vast body of trolling, political jabs out of nowhere, disdain for foreigners, and general shititude. He's been unrelenting for as long as I can remember his name. It really sucks a turd that this imbecilic signature line by a right wing parrot was what got him banned, finally, because you could find something more repulsive nearly every week.

    You know ods, I think it would be really helpful if any of you still have a copy to post the original sig file. Far too many people in this thread are missing (or intentionally ignoring) that the sig wasn't just a one-word sig with no context that people are complaining about.

    It’s funny, I come to BigSoccer for soccer. Purposely I choose to avoid the arguements that cloud the social media platforms. And yet I had a hard time leaving Facebook and I keep checking out this thread. It’s a like a siren song.

    I will do my part to be more civil. I guess that’s all I can do.

    Ok, see posts 54 and 58 in this thread. You say globalists means Jews because that's how Nazis use the word.

    I come to BigSoccer because I enjoy watching and talking about soccer. Some xenophobes consider soccer a lesser sport than gridiron football. They call it metric football or football for sissies. They use "soccer fan" in a disparaging manner. Is it now your position that identifying someone as a soccer fan is disparaging?

    You're right that I don't pay attention to what he's said on prior occasions. But if he's going to be banned, it shouldn't be because we give a common word a sinister meaning when it comes from his keyboard. I don't agree that globalists and liberals (or anyone else) are ruining America but I read his statement as saying that advocates of globalization and people to the left of center politically are making America a worse place. Not that he's saying "it's international jewry behind the scenes".

    Seems to me that Fiosfan got several bites at the apple, and ultimately chose to keep inflammatory words (intentional or not) rather than tone them down. Fine ban, I guess.

    I would simply caution the constant inflation of "offense" to "harm", particularly when it comes to comedy. An integral pillar of comedy is the subversion of the "normal". It's not funny watching a guy walk down a street. It is potentially funny if that guy randomly gets hit by a pie in the face. Similarly, most jokes are not funny without crude characterizations, overreactions, and/or crude language. Like, If someone tells a joke about a rabbi, an imam, and a priest walking into a bar, they're guaranteed to offend at least 5 people out of any 100. But being offensive to a select few doesn't mean that they're a monster, and it informs nothing about their individual character.

    People get upset over anything and everything under the sun. From what you say, to how you say it, to who you are, to who you love, each one of us is offending someone, somewhere at all times. It happens, but we all know that a soccer forum is not the place to discuss most things.

    So, If someone continues to push boundaries without regard, perhaps banning is the only solution. Hopefully, it's not a decision that gets easier and easier to make.

    And this is the other, where I very explicitly am putting it in the context of a response to a shitpost made by Bill Archer.

    I report, you decide.

    “Animals” isn’t offensive. “Black Lives Matters protestors are animals” is.

    Also, you wanna defend “libtards”?
