That article from the Montreal Gazette — the guy goes on a big rant about officiating, based on a call they got right.
Moreover the author fundamentally doesn't know the rules of the game. There was never mention of Denial of Obvious Goal Scoring Opportunity in the whole piece. Now, one might try to argue that with the recent DOGSO changes, they should not have called the 'triple punishment' (I disagree, I don't see a play on the ball in that foul), but the author clearly isn't aware of any of that, arguing that 'MLS is minor league' because the infraction wasn't violent, which doesn't matter at all by the rules. His beef is with IFAB, not MLS.
He's bigoted towards MLS. He he had a draft of an anti MLS article at the ready for a long time waiting for the first "reason" to come along to release it.
Haha glad I wasn’t the only one. Even before he gets to his rant about the officiating he does a poor repeat of the nonsense topics that other journalists who have little soccer knowledge write about.

Interesting. So, if the argument of MLS is that it is the owner via the Single Entity structure and not PSV, then couldn't it override any relocation and buy out the Investor-operator if it truly wanted to do so? (I'm sure there would have to be a voting session by the other investors).
But which "investor"/owner would do that? This could come back and bite them at future date when they choose to do something that not all the other owners agree with. It's why Mark Cuban was on the fence of the NBA taking away the team from Donald Sterling.
Yeah, I was thinking about which investors would be willing to potentially hamstring themselves if they desired to relocate a team in the future. In the past with the San Jose to Houston relocation, one could argue that AEG was operating around 50% of the league at the time and were probably a super-delegate for lack of better term.
It was a lazy and inaccurate article in so many ways: They got the call right, and he's too ignorant to even know the rules (DOGSA is a straight red, regardless of how violent the contact was), yet he's claiming the officiating is so bad it undermines the legitimacy of the league. Meanwhile, I guess he's never watched an EPL game because they blow crucial calls over there all the damned time, with no VAR to overturn the mistakes. He criticizes the league for things that mostly don't exist anymore. Only a handful of stadiums still have turf, and those few fields have quality way beyond the early days. There's no "bouncy ball" in this league. In fact, our collection of new soccer-specific stadiums are among the best in the world, yet he says we didn't get the "atmosphere" right? Huh? Maybe he prefers Spanish, Italian, Mexican or South American stadiums that still have a track around the field, are in total disrepair, or have standing water every time it rains. He criticizes the league for signing a guy like Zlatan. Good lord man. Zlatan was playing for one of the biggest clubs in the entire world (ManU) just over a month ago, scored 17 goals in the EPL just last season, and had one of the most brilliant and dramatic debuts in MLS history. Granted, we don't have $300 million payrolls, so it will be awhile before we sign guys like that in their prime. But the average age of all the new signings this year was just 24.7 years old and the most expensive signing in league history was just 18 when he signed. MLS is clearly NOT just a retirement league anymore. There's a huge youth movement taking place. Yet if we can land a major international star on the back-end of his career for just $1.5 million per year on a TAM deal, that is an absolute steal and any MLS club would be crazy not to do it. Would MLS somehow be better if Zlatan was playing in China? Meanwhile, just look at the 'goal of the week' nominations from this weekend. Absolutely brilliant. If that still isn't quality enough for you, then you never liked soccer in the first place. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised that someone that clearly has no idea what he's talking about is writing editorials about MLS. That's unfortunately been all-too-common over the years.
I wonder if one day a Cosmos team will play Rayo Vallecano and they'll wax lyrical about Rayo OKC. This week's J-League goalkeeping highlight. What I learned from that video is that the Japanese word for goalkeeper is goalkeeper.
This mostly makes sense, but in a few spots it seems they are actually ranking the crowd or atmosphere rather than the stadium itself. But it looks like we'll have a few great additions to this list in the near future with LAFC, DCU, and Minny.
Isn’t this more “This week’s J-League own goal highlight”? To my untrained eye, the goalkeeper isn’t out of position here? You could argue he shouldn't have dove for the ball and, instead, moved to try and get in position for shot on goal, but it is a common enough action that I’m not sure it is down to our normal standard for J-League goal keeping.
Man I've been following the league hardcore for a while now I remember when J-League was way better than MLS . I used to DVR every Ganbare J-league highlight show on Fox Soccer Channel.
