The NY Cosmos, the only team to singlehandedly destroy two separate American soccer leagues, has its sights set on a third apparently.

What the ********ing ********? Rocco Commisso is apparently too stupid to understand that there's no Pro/Rel in NPSL. So what exactly is he trying to accomplish by hiring professionals like Szetela and Wingert to play in an amateur league? Maybe he just takes pleasure in bankrupting soccer leagues?

yeah not quite fair...both the original version and NASL 2.0 were essentially dead before he even got on the scene...
and you know I almost agree with him here:

The team killed the NASL the first time. The team and Commisso killed it the second time.

Obviously, they're not welcome or capable of playing in MLS. I'm presuming that Commisso won't or can't join USL. So the NPSL gets stuck with a team that will spend orders of magnitude more than the opposition for what?...an Open Cup spot next year? There is no way whatsoever that the Kingston (NY) Stockade or the (Brunswick, ME) Seacoast Mariners could compete with a team of professionals.

Cosmos just bought a bunch more professionals to beat up on the NPSL Atlantic White Conference Division.

******** them with a pneumatic drill.

Explain to me then, what is this league? Professional or amateur? We have a team now in Baltimore for 2018, and I plan to go to some games. So if it's full of college players, how can it be professional? If it's amateur, how can the NY Cosmos have 35 year old professionals? Can someone explain this to me?

Take the Cosmos completely out of the equation. They are an outlier of one whose only goal, I think, is to destroy the league.

My local NPSL team is a collection of college players who can only play a limited number of games without losing their eligibility. I don't think they can be payed. There are some other non-college players who can be compensated, but I think we're talking beer money. It's described as semi-pro since some players are paid and others aren't but I don't think that's really accurate since even the paid players couldn't actually live off soccer wages. Teams tend to have tryouts and so the players are mostly local.

I'm relatively new to NPSL so perhaps others could describe it better than me. If you want to do a deep dive into NPSL and how it works, look up Dennis Crowley, the owner of the Kingston Stockade. His blog posts on Medium are amazing.
