If we play against tall players, KSW aerial power could be not only useful in the offense but also in the defense. And tbh we don't really have any tactics, so in desperate case, just put KSW and SHJ on top and cross like idiots ^^
unless i missed a memo at some point the plan for the world cup was always to be ********ed sideways and then some. i thought the consensus was korea is lucky to be even participating 1. shin taeyong probably knows counter attack is his only chance at obtaining points so kim shinwook is unlikely to be a starter 2. selecting an alternative to kim shinwook isnt going to make any improvements to the team, or even change the teams playing style players arent suddenly going to stop kicking meaningless long balls because another forward is playing. thats been a team issue, unrelated to coaching/player selection/etc. and other players arent any better at winning headers
THIS. we still have an identity issue based on player selection. and often times the product on the field in the key tournaments is incohesive junk
jin sungwook has been unimpressive for the senior team. looks like he is struggling just to catch up to the level of play. makes sense as he isnt a standout player even in the domestic league i think jin sungwook is in the squad because of his ability to make explosive runs. no one else but son heungmin possesses this skill in the current squad make up. while this is a good weapon to have i still dont think hes deserving of a place in the squad as the overall quality just isnt there with jin sungwook. the spot should go to yeom kihun and it would be less wasted on a more polished player like lee jongho or lee seungki
I think Kim Shin-Wook would shine even against strong opposition if he were used as a wide target man (Tore Andre Flo style). Winning aerial duels against a full back shouldn't be at all hard.
One thing for sure, STY doesnt use KSW only for his height like the previous managers who used him only as a target man.. KSW has fast feet even with his height and STY knows it. But if we need to choose 2 out of HHC, KSW, and SHJ, I would pick HHC and SHJ.. KSW NEVER showed any competitiveness against European teams.
Lolol... Seriously? BTW, we better pray SHJ recovers quickly. KSW may be useful against AFC sides or a U23 Latvia side. But he still plays like a sunflower and sucks at hold up play and truly attacking the ball with his head. He still mostly relies on jump and hope when trying to head the ball. He scored in these matches because the opposition were so poor. Yet I still saw him shy away from certain headers. Does he need a rugby helmet to get over some fear? What use is that against Sweden when their disciplined backline will crowd him out and out muscle and out jump him?
Doesn't that scare you shitless if STY is using KSW as anything else but as a target man? We already have HHC and LKH to play that role alongside SHM. The whole point of someone like KSW blessed with his frame and height is to play as a target man. He can be our Kevin Davies or poor man's Giroud if only he grew a pair and attacks headers and throws elbows to hold up the ball. Instead he's trying to play like he's 175cm rather than almost 2m tall... I'm glad he got tested and scored a handful of goals in the past three matches with his head. But he needs to develop a nasty and gritty streak in the new season to really be a viable plan B. Otherwise, he's going to be just a five minute substitute thrown in there when we're whipping in desperate crosses against well disciplined back lines. We're playing Sweden and Germany ffs. We failed to score in the last ten minutes with Hong Chul whipping in crosses at will towards KSW's head against a U23 Latvia side! And while we're at it, I think KSW will struggle against the Mexican CBs who have grit, strength and height. Once they figure out that KSW is a gentle giant, he'll get devoured by them.
Obviously. But he needs to improve his fundamental flaws as a target man. And STY (along with us fans) needs to be realistic about what his role needs to be. He is plan B for kick and rush football. He needs to learn how to play for that role. The minute he is played as anything else means we're doomed. And the minute he thinks he's anything else means he's going to be useless.
I always thought his fundamental flaw was that despite his height, he's not really a strong athlete. He gets boxed out of position often. Not really sure what he can do to change that. But even if he doesn't win aerial duels, I feel like he does have the tendency to pull in defenders which may free up someone else to strike.
Yeah, that was his biggest asset during WC2014. He was a solid plan B who either deflected or directed passes to on rushing players (namely Son), who then had space to work with because Kim's presence sucked in two+ defenders. It's ugly football, but in situations where we need a goal against top opposition, it's a solid option for us.
LGH will prob get picked too. So the question is, who will be dropped out of HHC and SHJ? Can both still go?
