Osorio rotates so much it’s tough to decipher as a non fan of the team, but I’d imagine Guardado, Herrera and J Dos Santos would be the first choice midfield? That would mean either Corona or Vela start on the bench though as Lozano has to have the attacking LW locked down at this point.
This is the oldest article about him -- September 2013 -- I've found from soccer media sites, when he was being courted by Liga MX clubs at age 14, the most coveted player from the Alianza program that year. https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...lifornia-boy-courted-by-14-mexican-clubs.html Snip: “I’ll have to take some time to think it all over and decide what the best path is,” said Gonzalez, who has been playing club ball at Atletico Santa Rosa. Gonzalez’s father Alonso, who emigrated from Guanajuato, Mexico, at age 18, says Jonathan’s dream is to play for the U.S. national team. “I’ll support him 100 percent in whatever direction he wants to go,” said Alonso. “He loves America and wants to play for the USA.” He ended up spurning Chivas, who would have forbid him from representing the US.
You have to be a Mexican player to be part of Chivas, so if he took that one they'd have made him sign a contract where he promised to get capped ASAP by El Tri, something like that.
Guardado and Herrera are the main players for those positions, after that the spots are up for the taking, Jonathan dos Santos has dropped in the ladder from absolute starter to bench option but it is unlikely he'd stop calling him unless he is atrocious next season like his older brother. After that he'd have to compete against Giovani himself who Osorio moved down to CM because he can't longer compete with our other wingers, Erick Gutierrez, Orbelin Pineda, Victor Guzman, Jesus Dueñas, maybe even Omar Govea and Marco Fabian assuming he is healthy and in form.
I still think Chivas is stupid, imagine the flak an MLS team would get for requiring all its players to be American.
is almost like if Mexico and the US had different cultures and social problems to care about, Chivas isn't the only team that does that, El Nacional from Ecuador and Athletic Bilbao have similar policies.
If it applied to American citizens I'm sure it's something that U.S. citizens who comprise 100% of votes for legislators would support. And someone in MLS should try to execute it because it would be in the best interest of all parties, especially under the current rules giving foreigners actually a built-in advantage. There needs to be a lifeline for the Jonathan Lewis', Marco Farfan's, Erik Palmer-Brown's, and Andrew Carleton's of the world so their development isn't stunted and they fall thru the cracks.
I think the immigrant labor is used in MLS to divide labor so it will be weaker when the two monopolies (labor and capital) clash in their occasional self destructive orgies called "collective" bargaining. In other sports I think they do the same by separating salaries by a lot so high paid stars will not have an interest in striking. Toronto occasionally plays with 9 Americans starting so the idea is not far fetched.
My most fair assessment is that JoGonz should should sit it out this cycle. It's kind of what he is saying anyway (so far). His abilities are one thing but his experience is another. Playing in mid on big stage against big teams in just 4 months or so is a lot to ask.
I don't know. He hasn't even sent the letter announcing his one-time switch to FIFA and it's supposed to all be done by the 31st? I'm not convinced. Maybe I'm just refusing to believe.
Well if this is true then I'm fine saying kick rocks kid. At least with Jesse Gonzalez he was always back and forth on which team to pick. Jonathan has been US throughout and because no one called him for this meaningless friendly he up and switches. Ok bye. Our midfield is looking good even without him but I would still prefer he stay with us.
Hate to say I was right (again), but saw this coming from the 5th post in this thread. Anyone saying this doesn't matter is insane. This is an absolute atrocity, along the lines of missing the WC. I am at a breaking point here, and just about had it with US Soccer. After the WC disaster, I said I would refuse to watch any game featuring MB and Altidore, but I might just stop following it altogether for a few years. What an embarrassment. What a joke.
Could really not care less about any of it right now. A lot can happen in four years and if the past 20 years of supporting the USMNT has taught me anything, it's that young players almost never live up to our expectations. But good luck to him.
While I get there is a special pull on dual nationals that others do not feel or understand, jumping ship at this point indicates to me that he doesn't have the mentality I really want in the squad. This is not Jermaine Jones switching sides because Germany no longer wanted him. This is a guy who has every reason to expect that he will given plenty of chances in the next year or two to win a spot in the USMNT midfield. He was given a choice and he chose Mexico. It sucks that Mexico may benefit from this, but it's no real loss in my opinion when a guy who would rather play for Mexico isn't in our locker room.
I guess that makes me insane. We missed out on the World Cup. Having a guy who has never played for the USMNT decide to never play for the USMNT is about as relevant to our future as a guy from New Jersey named Rossi.
Blaming the caretaker manager of the USMNT is ridiculous when a dual citizen decides to play for the country that actually qualified for the World Cup.
