I'm not fully aware as to where the line should be drawn between regular contact and actual fouling, but Portugal's two non-goals were this: 1. Corner kick, ball comes in toward a Portugal+Italy pair in the box, Italy player goes down (not sure if it was incidental contact or an actual push) but the deflection goes to another Portugal player who drives it in to the far side netting. 2. Didn't see the lead-up to the play, but a ball comes close to goal and there's a whole mess of players nearly on top of each other. ITA goalie tries to punch it out but there are a lot of heads near her hands and it essentially becomes an own goal before being disallowed. I think the second call is correct because I remember there's some rule about not endangering the 'keeper. First call depends on exactly why the ITA player went down but it looked like a soft call to me.
There was a link to the stream in the list of links hotjam2 provided. But yeah, sounds like Spain cruised through the first half and added some insurance later on.
4-0 final. Didn't see this game but Spain's problem has always been too slow and predictable. If they can move the ball quicker, they'll be one of the top teams.

I didn't resist and went looking for just the most important episodes, even if I didn't currently have the time to watch the whole match. Firstly, I enjoyed Italian goal: once again, Bonansea was outstanding on the left-side, with run, dribbling and nice cross in the box for Sabatino! Then I went looking for the disallowed goals: I easily found the second one, in extra-time, and in my opinion as well it's in the rules that you're not allowed to charge the GK this way (Giuliani may have accentuated when she realized that the ball was going in goal, but it was anyway a foul in my book). I didn't find the other situation instead, because UEFA live-ticker didn't help me at all to identify it: can you tell me at which time of second time was it, approximately?
haven't seen highlights but looking at the lineup Spain might have a new star in 19 year old Patricia Guijarro(scored one goal). Nice to see the lovely Olga Garcia gets the starting nod(barely used at the Euros). Maria Paz was my fave Spanish player(from Euros) but just gets spare change in this one http://us.women.soccerway.com/match...s-wc-qualifying-europe/spain/austria/2448286/ Austria's problem might be; using the same starting eleven lineup can make them complement & also more easier to figure out for opponents.
nice sell out crowd for the Dutch, but not enough to win against a master coach like Colin Bell. I take it that the non handball call is due to FIFA's new rule; that contact wasn't intentional, but it's just becoming more controversial. But also didn't like that no foul was called on Ireland's breakaway, as even though it was a shoulder block, it could of caused injury(if the player fell the wrong away). Here's highlights any thoughts of the two non calls I've just mentioned?
The body check on the Irish player running through, was a good call to me. Regarding the penalty incident at the end...the only reason to not give a penalty, is that the Irish player in front is knocking the ball from such close range that it would be impossible for her teammate to react and get her arms away. I guess that's the way the ref saw it.
The handball rule is nothing new ? It has been at least 10 years when FIFA put it in writing about intent...
The handball rule has always been tough to interpret, even for referees. I can't remember the last time I saw an intentional handball. It happens when outfield players make saves on the goalline, like Luis Suarez against Ghana in the World Cup years ago. No player uses the arm to block a cross with intent.
[QUOTE="blissett, post: 36114931, member: 193219" I didn't find the other situation instead, because UEFA live-ticker didn't help me at all to identify it: can you tell me at which time of second time was it, approximately? [/QUOTE] I just found these highlights on portuguese side: They are a bit biased, seems that Italy had only 1 chance beyond the goal and it hasn't been that way, but I must admit that Portugal had most of the chances and probably a draw would have been a fairer outcome. About the 2 disallowed goals, my opinion is a bit different from SiberianThunderT, I think that the first is clearly a foul on the italian defender, while the 2nd could have been conceded: the contact between the hands of Giuliani and the player's head looks very soft to me, if it ever happened, and Giuliani makes a bit a scene...of course the rear view doesn't help to sort out the rightness of the referee decision... About the match overall, Italy played a good first half, expecially fron the 15' to 40' and legitimated the lead: in the second half, instead, the team seemed to me not having a clear play vision, uncertain between setting a proper defense vs. the attacking blasts of the portugueses and going for a 2nd goal that could have clinched the match. Phisically the portugueses looked a notch or 2 over our girls, Sara Gama struggled a lot vs. their number 7, some of the players (Mauro, Rosucci) didn't play well. Italy in this period lacks big time a real play-maker, since the 2 best in this role, Cernoia and Parisi, both are recovering from heavy injuries and their best young replacement, Giugliano, IMO is not yet ready for a full match...anway let's take these 3 points, I am confident that Bertolini will make good use of the 4-5 months availables before the next matches vs. Belgium to work to sort out these weak spots...
Hope so: Belgium will be a tougher nut to crack that Portugal, and, as you rightfully pointed out, we already had quite a difficult time vs Portugal and struggled at times...
I do remember the last time me and you saw an intentional handball in the box. Van de Sanden vs Norway in the latest qualifier match between the two teams (but, alas! Norway missed the subsequent PK). It wasn't a save on the goal-line, but, come on, dare telling me that it wasn't intentional!
Which is why Boquete's continued absence is so strange. I understand a new coach wanting to freshen the team up, develop young players, etc. But none of that necessitates dropping your all-time leading scorer (38 goals), who is only 30 years old I might add. Bermúdez and Adriana Martín the only other Spanish players with 30+ goals, both also cut from the team recently. I totally support investing in the future, building the next generation. But keeping around a few players who can finish is not the worst idea either.
I would class intent as players moving their arm in a move that interfere with the ball and I see them at every game.
GROUP 7 Israel vs Finland 0-0 After their good start in this group, the Finns messed it up today of course. Anna Westerlund sent off after only 17 mins and two points wasted.
Controversial red card in the Israel-Finland game. Westerlund wasn't even involved in the situation, but might have been sent off for dissent or the referee sent off the wrong player because #15 and #16 looked so similar.
It is bizzare, I am not convinced the original foul deserves a red card for DOGSO. .It might be for dissent, of not the player can appeal and the red card and the suspension transferred to the right player. Typical situation where VAR is needed.
It's probably for dissent, I'd say. It was quite clear that Westerlund wasn't involved in the action, but she said something to the referee and after that this one extracted the Red Card right away. We'll probably never know what she said, but probably the ref perceived that as offensive. I see that Finland's GK is Korpela: why I already heard her name? Does she play in any big club? While I guess some other Finlandians (Kuikka, for instance) are involved in youth football in USA.
Good goalie. She has played for Bayern Munich over the last few years, but was one of many not getting a contract extension when Bayern decided to revamp their squad last summer. She is still a free agent, I think. Korpela also played a number of years in Norway before that (LSK and Kolbotn).
Oh, ok. I guess, after Euro '17, Bayern's management decided that Manuela Zingsberger was more than good enough. I anyway wish Korpela to go on with her brilliant career (although a World Cup seems quite out of question, right now).
It would have been a yellow card if only for dissent. To rise to the level of red, it had to be abusive language. Something like, "You're a f***ing idiot" or some other profane name could do it although I'm sure it depends on the referee what they consider abusive. In the US, the instruction for abusive language is that it has to be personal, public, and profane.
Sweden appeal's rejected by UEFA : The UEFA Appeals Body met on 1 February following an appeal by Swedish Football Association (SvFF) against the decision announced by the UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) on 16 November 2017 relating to the refusal of Denmark women’s national team to play a UEFA European qualifying competition match for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup between Sweden and Denmark, scheduled on 20 October in Sweden. The CEDB has declared the UEFA European qualifying competition match for the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup between Sweden and Denmark as a forfeit, which saw Denmark being deemed to have lost the match 3-0. Denmark women’s national team is excluded from participating in UEFA competition matches for which it would otherwise qualify, and the sanction is deferred for a probationary period of four (4) years. The Danish Football Association is also fined with €20,000. Looking at the standing both Denmark and Sweden still have six points. So Denmark have lost the game 3-0 but Sweden got no points from it.
Sorry to ask, but, translated in non-legal lingo, does this mean that Denmark can still qualify for WWC 2019 or are they out?
They can still qualify, they have a four years probation period, so they need to make sure they don't do it again otherwise they will be excluded.
