Ashton Goetz at Roda JC

  1. Heracles Almelo – Roda JC 2-1
    Heracles Almelo: Castro 6,5; Breukers 5,5, Pröpper 6, Hardeveld 5, Duarte 6,5 (77. Droste -); Pelupessy 6, Van Ooijen 5,5, Monteiro 6,5; Darri 6,5 (82. Niemeijer -), Gladon 5,5 (67. Vermeij -), Peterson 5.
    Roda JC: Jurjus 6,5; Götz 5, Ananou 6, Auassar 6, Van Peppen 6; El Makrini 5,5, Gustafson 4,5 (75. Engels -), Ndenge 5,5; Rosheuvel 6, Schahin 5,5, Paulissen 6,5 (82. Van Velzen -).
    Arbiter: Kuipers 7

    Roda JC: Jurjus: 6; Gotz 6, El Makrini 5,5, Kum 5,5, Vanstaankiste 6; Gustafson 5,5, Gnjatic 5,5, Engels 6,5; Rosheuvel 6, Schahin 5,5, Auassar 6.
    NAC Breda: Birighitti 5; Verschueren 6 (46.

Wouldn't mind seeing him called up for Portugal game. You'd have to think his German NT window is definitely closing. I wonder if he'd accept a call.

But I guess we don't know if he even really has a passport.

his German NT chances are not closing they are already closed.

Though I'm not sure why you guys are so keen on him. What has he shown that's even worthy of a call up to the US squad? He was ditched/dumped by Hamburg and now plays at the bottom of the Eredivisie in a relegation team. His team Roda is #2 in the league in terms of most goals conceded this season.

If you read through this thread, you won't read a lot of recent "keenness." He's a novelty and when he was on the verge of breaking through in the BL, he was worth a look. Now... meh.

Even if he broke through, you still need him to actually perform. He couldn't even cut it in a team like Hamburg.

I never found Gotz to be one of those players that's actually worth following though. Years later and it's even more telling when he's almost 25 and his career is pretty empty. I also don't believe that he's ever even played for the German youth NT, also ignored at youth level. He's no Jonas Hector though.

Gotz hasn't played since November. According to T'markt he's been out with some sort of "abdominal muscles injury".

I believe his coach as all but confirmed that he's out for the rest of the season and his expiring Summer 2018 contract is very unlikely to be renewed.

According to Transfermrkt, Ashton is no longer with Roda - shows him as without club.

    Anyone have any further info?

hasn't played a game since Nov 2017 and seems to have only comeback from his injury in June/July. Don't think anyone will be knocking down on his door. Seems to be currently in limbo like Kiesewetter.

looks like he had trials at FC Aarau (Swiss 2nd division) and FSV Zwickau (3rd Liga and coached by Joe Enochs) in April 2019.

since those were like very early April and almost a month ago, looks like he could have failed to convince?

    new update,

on trial with 3rd Liga club Wurzburger Kickers. Hopefully he has better success than his last trial at another 3rd Liga club. Turns 26 next month.

Aftera season without a club at any level at all? Colour me sceptical.

It's really, really hard to maintain even physical fitness alone (personal trainers with the right skills cost $$) and his ball skills (touch, movement, spatial awareness, etc.) will be rusty. He's up against triallists who were full-times until a month ago. That's why free agents often drop a division or even two on six-month deals/deals until the end of the season.

our "germerican" boom was a lot like grunge- you have nirvana and pearl jam (jones, johnson), then, ok, your stone temple pilots (boyd, morales)...goetz was like, seven mary three/candlebox level.

he played in the 2nd half in a 4-1 win, the goal conceded was in his half, no idea what role he played in that.

the German-American boom seems to be fading/dawning.
your successful ones are either aging or done like Jones. From the Chandler, Johnson, Brooks and Jones.

then like the next 13-14 guys haven't panned out or not good enough for 1BL and they are all like mid-20s-to late 20s.
that's been the issue with German-Americans there has been no increase in numbers no replacement for the successful ones so far. It's been at a constant to 4 that went down to 3 with Jones's retirement.

next up seems to be maybe Jurcher (needs to move up from RL), Lankford (never impressed so far in 2BL), Friede (was criticized a ton by me and even Hertha 1st team and II coach. Did well on loan in Belgium before being injured but who knows if he'll breakthrough the 1st team or back to II or another loan. He has the tools to be a decent pro player but seems lazy.) Maloney (wasted a year now going to lower level loan), T.Tillman (did not impress on loan in 1BL and going for 3rd Liga), Malone (did well in 1st team friendlies, U19 games and RL but we have to see how he does as a pro), Leibold (lacks experience, will a newly promoted team give it to him or will he end up being loaned out between now and Winter? For him and Maloney it was better for them no promotion.)

its going to be awhile for sure....and not every player from these next 7 will even pan out or be good enough for 1BL.

Wasn’t there a significant troop drawdown at the American bases in Germany in the 1990s after the Cold War has ended?

That would have ramifications for the number of Germericans going forward.

isn't the number like mid 30 000 troops now? But not all German-American have military ties.

it's not a negative, USA should be developing their own players. Instead of hoping to lure players dev elsewhere to join the program.

not surprising guy couldn't convince for Swiss 2nd division.

Kiesewetter left Germany after he couldn't convince Fortuna, an Eredivisie club, a 2BL club and a 3rd Liga club to take him.

Gotz seems like he's the same, they both seem like RL level. Maybe should follow him to USL?
