Carel Eiting and Frenkie De Jong were born to play together. These two players exude an extraordinary elegance. Eiting-Van De Beek-De Jong is the midfield of the future.

Other than the wonderful pass from Eiting to Siem de Jong I wasn't all that impressed with Eiting. I thought other than the two de Jongs everyone else was just average or a bit above. Ajax were very wasteful in front of goal and should have scored 7-8 tonight. I hope I am wrong, but it looks like Cerny suffered a very serious knee injury and is likely out for the year.

You have to give him more time. Eiting is a 6 right so the expectation of him on the ball or for creative passes has to be toned down a bit. Shame what happened to Nouri. De Jong & Nouri could have made a fluid midfield ahead of a decent 6.

You are very perfectionist. I was very impressed by his ability to find his teammates between the lines. He plays often vertically, and it is very rare in Holland to be underlined.

Weird second half of football. I really thought that was a phantom penalty call on Schöne but the reply was only from behind and at some distance. Perhaps some of you saw a better replay than I did. Willem II started to pack things in at the 60th minute but Ajax kept working hard to break things down. Neres showed some very nice ball skills and finally Siem de Jong slotted home the game winner after Huntelaar let the ball run to him. Neres scored the third when the Willem II keeper couldn't parry Huntelaar's shot out of the box. Defense held up OK, not conceding any foolish goals on the night. There are still problems at LB as Viergever just is not the player. I was surprised when Sinkgraven came in Wöber was subbed off. Dolberg cannot play out on the wing and it would have been better to pair Kluivert and Neres.

    Player Ratings:

Onana (6.5) - had one save when he tipped a ball wide of the goal but most of the Willem II shots were off target
Viergever (6) - OK at center back, not OK at LB
Wöber (6) - thought he played OK and was surprised when he was subbed off
de LIgt (6.5) - other than a rash challenge that was carded played a credible match
Veltman (7) - defended well and actually had some good crosses
Schöne (6) - harshly called for a pull down in the box and played OK until he ran out of gas
Ziyech (6.5) - some very nice passes that were just a half meter off from breaking a player in on goal
van de Beek (5) - just average and no more
Dolberg (5) - not good enough on the ball to play on the wing
Huntelaar (5.5) - had two gift chances on crosses that he couldn't put away
Neres (7) - another good game with some dangerous moves and heads up play
Sinkgraven (5.5) - slightly above average coming on
Siem de Jong (6) - I think he had only two touches, one of which was the match winner [IMG]
Frenkie de Jong (5.5) - on late for a laboring Schöne when he should have come on 10 minutes earlier

Sometimes teams have to win ugly and Ajax did that tonight. Let's hope PSV drop some points tomorrow; it's probably the only tough fixture on their schedule until the Ajax match. Next week home to Utrecht who have been struggling.

^^ We've had Siem and Siem Lite over the past six years and both approaches were failures. IIRC, Siem had two touches on Saturday and one was a gift wrapped cross that he slotted home for the goal. More telling was a time when the ball was turned over just inside the attacking zone and Siem made no attempt at all to go after the Willem II player; he just stood there and looked at him take off down the field. It's ridiculous to even contemplate this.

Rinus127 may be right about Keizer and it's really curious given how he managed Jong Ajax last season. Perhaps it's the pressure of running the first team that forces him to take a more conservative approach. I don't think he is quite in the de Boer category because there is much less back passing this season compared to the past several season as judged by the pass maps that 11 tegen 11 puts out.

  11. Willem II – Ajax 1-3
    Willem II: Branderhorst 6,5; Heerkens 6,5, Lachman 6, Peters 6,5, Van der Linden 5, Tsimikas 7; Haye 6,5 (81. Lewis -), Chirivella 7,5, Rienstra 7,5; El Hankouri (81. Ogbeche -), Velikonja 6 (63. Azzaoui -).
    Ajax: Onana 7,5; Veltman 6, De Ligt 7, Wöber 6,5 (63. Sinkgraven -), Viergever 4; Van de Beek 5 (63. S. de Jong -), Schöne 5 (81. F. de Jong -), Ziyech 6; Neres 6, Huntelaar 6,5 Dolberg 4,5.
    Arbiter: Higler 6

  12. Saw in the highlights of the matches of this weekend the most hilarious back pass ever. Donot remember which match it was, but a midfielder (I think) had the ball on the opponents half about 7-10 meters in and close to the side line. He didnot know what to do with it and from there decided to give a back pass towards the goalie:rolleyes:, that went horribly wrong giving the opponent a free run to the goal. Serves you right. Now let's see that happen here too. Not out of self interest, but as a hard core learning experience;) to improve Dutch football.

  13. By the way, Onana deserves a pay rise, as he did already save Ajax 9 points at least this season.

  14. That would be hilarious.
Being nominated both for the European "Golden Boy Award"and the "Freddy Adu Award".

His beginnings were promising. The games against Nice and Rosenborg were good but we were unlucky. Since these two eliminations, he is less daring.

Siem de Jong is really not the way forward. I'm not convinced about Keizer either but on the other hand rumours suggest it's Spijker and Bergkamp who advocate the De Boer playstyle.

^^ I've seen Serhuis a number of times and he is one of the best clinical finishers. Two big issues: can he stay healthy and is he quick enough to play at the highest level. It will be interesting to see how this Ajax U-19 team does in the youth CL. They have progressed each of the past several years only to get knocked out before the semifinals. I think the team with Nouri and van de Beek was a little more talented but there are some decent prospects on this side.

I like his aggressive temperament. He has the grinta of Argentines. This team is good. Ylatupa, the Finnish, is very technical. Pasquali too is a smart and intelligent player. Mitchell Bakker is my favorite. Soon he will take the place of Dijks and Sinkgraven

An offsides goal coupled with a horrible defensive mistake by Veltman gifted Utrecht a win at the Arena today. PSV can now go eight points clear with a win over Twente in the late match. I think Ziyech's late shot that hit the crossbar was the only hard shot on frame by Ajax. Other than the two wingers who had very nice matches everyone else didn't do enough. Just not enough commitment from Ajax and I'm afraid a real clean out of management and players is now required if this club is to prosper in the next several years. The only thing left to play for at this point is the Beker which will bring qualification into the Europa League next season; is this really what we want and need to expect of a club that some of us have supported for over forty years?

    Player Ratings:

Onana (6.5) - had a couple of decent saves but the goals were not his fault
Viergever (6) - OK match but with no new contract he is no long term solution at any position
Wöber (6) - 2nd straight match he is subbed off, why? He's been brought in to be the next left side CB
de Ligt (6) - he played the off side trap well but the linesman missed the call on the first goal
Veltman (3) - not only was he out of position but he then missed a crucial clearance kick on the match winner
Schöne (4) - too slow today and should only see sub duty in the last 20 minutes if needed
Ziyech (4.5) - one shot that hit the crossbar and that was it; he should be sold in January but it will probably be for a loss as he's not good enough for any other league
Siem de Jong (4) - the nightmares that I had three years ago about a slow MF have returned; did anyone else see how slowly he left the field when he was subbed off?
Younes (7) - consistently created danger on the left; I think he still believes he has a chance for the German NT next summer in Russia so he will be playing his rear end off trying to impress
Dolberg (5) - KJH would not have done much better
Neres (7) - some very good movement with the ball and a constant danger
Frenkie de Jong (5) - just OK coming in; needs to be a starter to see if he has what it takes
Sinkgraven (4.5) - a failed experiment at LB and who knows if he is good enough to play in the MF
van de Beek (5) - came in way to late to have much of an impact.

Two weeks off to think about things and then a trip to Breda to play NAC. I hope my despair over the current state of Ajax will lift but I am not optimistic

In a way, I'm happy with this defeat. Keizer leads us to a deplorable backtrack. Siem de Jong is the most inappropriate player to play fast football with pressing and short passes. Erik Ten Hag, Utrecht coach, deserves to sit on the Ajax bench. I would love to see him lead good players. Keizer has no charisma, he has been politically appointed to please Bergkamp and his camp.
We need a change of direction. We need to reconnect with Cruyff's legacy as in Spain. It is tragic to see that in Spain most coaches swear by Cruyff whereas here in Holland except for Bosz and Jonk and some others without club nobody speaks about him. I would have liked to see Jordi Cruyff become Technical Director of Ajax, it would change a lot of things.

  25. I'm surprised you give him such a rating! In my eyes he was useless. Hope Ajax values your rating over my opinion, however:D
