From a dominant machine that was almost guaranteed a win every game domestically, to this piece of shit, in just 18 months. Sigh ...

2 matches, 2 wins. Great start by Jupp. But those were at home. Now thing will get more challenging, having to play away, especially 2 consecutive matches vs Leipzig. Then a trip to Glasgow, a not so tolerant stadium, and Celtic will want to show they can do better. Finishing by a clash with Dortmund at Iduna Park. Next 2 weeks will be very exciting but also potential for heartbreaking.

At least, it's great to see this team start to play some good football, as well as the counter pressing, which was so dull and boring under the previous coach.

I wonder what role Vidal and Tollisso will play under Jupp? They are quite similar in their style of play as well as their usefulness in a system. The thing is, after 2 matches, it seems there hasn't been yet a defined role for them. Jupp is still Jupp, meaning a dynamic double-pivot. People have talked a lot about the possibility of a Martinez-Vidal duo, resembling of the legendary Martinez-Schweinsteiger midfield pairing during treble season. However, while Martinez is well, still Martinez, the closest midfielder to prime Schweinsteiger is Thiago. His technical ability and small physical size can make false impression, but we cannot underrate his dynamic, work-rate, pressing and defensive work. Vidal is a very different type of player.

Last match, Rudy hold the Martinez role very well. Quiet, calm, but efficient distribution, good defensive positioning. When Vidal entered to replace him, our game became more chaotic.

Unless Jupp change his midfield setup, e.g. removing the anchor (Martinez), or using a 3 men midfield (then how about captain Muller?) I'm very curious to see how Jupp will use Vidal. At the moment, best I can think of is an alternative to the Thiago role. He brings some unique characteristics to our game, especially sheer determination, some craziness and roughness, which I like, so hopefully he will find his place.

Tolisso is in the same situation as Vidal because they're similar type of midfielder. The Tolisso transfer looked odd already in the summer, because at that time we were suppose to find a replacement for Alonso. Now with the move from 4-3-3 to 4-2-3-1, and the return of Martinez to midfield, that area is incredibly congested, and Tolisso runs the risk of being the odd man out. He is still young and very talented so I hope Jupp can find a way to use and develop him.

Still, to buy some players during the summer according to a coach's wish, only to sack him in September. Great plan by management, thank you so much:confused:

I'm a bit worried about next 2 matches vs Leipzig. They're a very good pressing team, and we were not able to deal with Hamburg's yesterday. Our ability to deal with and by pass an intense pressing clearly took a step back since Ancelotti took over last year.

Also Vidal and Tolisso don't play well together in this system, so one of them seems to be redundant?

Muller out!!! Just when he's starting to get his mojo back:mad:

On the other hand, the Vidal problem is temporarily solved. Whether or not he finds his place in the team will be decided in this period. James can be the replacement too but I believe Jupp with move Thiago there, with a Javi-Vidal/Rudy double pivot. Far from ideal but I think it can work.

Hope Jupp can guide the team safely pass the incoming difficult 2 weeks.

I'm really hoping he keeps it simple and lets James have some regular playing time...

Considering James's less than ideal outing last weekend, I find it's hard to believe Jupp will gamble with him now. Leipzig is not an easy opponent to experiment or for bench players to find their form. If he springs a surprise (and it works) I am more than welcome :)

On another note Muller is out for 3 weeks, so at least it's better than 6 weeks initially.

I like Vidal’s toughness, but sometimes I just think he is the most stupid player in our squad!

They were, admittedly, the better team until the red card (that Keita was a beast!!!) and from that moment on, the difference between 11 vs 10 was not really noticeable. We did won, and it's a crucial won, but Leipzig has every right to feel hurt.

The Vidal-Tolisso, for the 2nd time, didn't workout. In hindsight Jupp probably want an aggressive midfield to counter press them, but we really really lack a deep lying playmaker to organize the midfield, especially when Thiago is not playing deep.

Coming to the weekend, actually I'm more optimistic. We will play at home, having learnt the lesson, plus they will be a bit more tired because of playing with 10 men for 60 minutes.

At least, that game we can afford not to win.

Vidal-Tolisso in midfield reminds me of some of the Jupp-fail midfields when he was rotating the squad during the 2011-12 season. Tymoschuk-Gustavo style.

    How old is this guy?

“Arturo Vidal will be investigated by the police because of an incident occurred a month ago after the match against Mainz. According to Bild, Vidal, his brother Sandrino and his friends were hanging out in a night club for Oktoberfest and had to be taken out of the club because of aggressive actions; broken beer glasses, broken tables, mocked guests and fist fights. However the fist fight was started by another group of people, leaving a German Turk injured by a bottle which was thrown by the gang where Vidal stayed.
The club has not given yet any response and the information still remain unclear.
