Ok ,so Jon Cifuentes just issued a formal apology claiming responsibility.I don't know guys, depending on circumstances, his apology seem sincere or he has a great public relations person.young guys make stupid decisions sometimes.

Do we even have a core to rebuild? Should this have been done during Copa America 2 years ago?

When have defenders but we need attackers and midfielders.

I'm hopeful some talented kids will break through or the ones that have potential now will be mature soon (like Noboa when he popped out in the middle of the 2010 qualifiers).

Watching America right now. Ibarra scored, and something we don't do is create space for others to attack it.

Do you guys think we will get to play against top teams that have qualified to the WC? Or same old, Honduras, Mexico?

Frankly, we have no business playing top teams at the moment because we're not a top team or even 2nd tier right now (based on results). This time around, we need to start from the bottom and rebuild and that means playing smaller/less competitive teams.

It's going to be tough turning the tables for us in this next Qualifier to be honest. Our quality isn't there as it was before. Who will replace Antonio? Cristian Noboa? even Felipe (who was the best striker we had)? I find it difficult for us to qualify. We have more central attacking players now more than wingers. Have any of you guys seen any wingers developing lately? b/c I haven't. Besides Bryan Cabezas and maybe Kevin Mercado, who is more of a forward, I don't see anyone promising on the come up. Marcos Caicedo doesn't exactly finish off convincing me. As far as goals and assists, he doesn't stack numbers up in either arena. He's not THAT young either. He's turning 26 in November and 5 years from now (2022), he will be 31. I don't think he'll be around by then quite honestly. The rest of the BSC squad like Ely Esterilla and Erick Castillo are good players, just inconsistent. By now that shouldn't be the case. At least Erick Castillo has hope since he's 22. Esterilla in 5 years will be 29. Don't see much going on there. Emelec has a mediocre Ayrton Preciado and a promising Bryan Angulo that still has time to finish developing...that kid could actually become a good striker. Over in IDV, there's Tin Angulo who we will probably see at his best (hopefully) next season b/c right now he came half way through after a year of no futbol. Then there's Jeghson Mendez (Center mid) and Billy Arce, along with that indisciplined player Gabriel Cortez who are all interesting.

Don't see anyone in El Nacional that wows me. In Liga there's Jonathan Betancourt, but he still has a way to go as well. Delfin has Garces and Tuca...the latter one will most tlikely be retired and 37 years old by then and Garces will be 32. Jacob Murillo I don't have much hope for. Any other squad with decent attacking players? I honestly don't see anything. You guys let me know if you see any.

Abroad we have some interesting central attacking mids: Junior Sornoza, Cristian Aleman, and I'll even throw Cazares in the mix. I think Josimar Quintero is also a center mid as well if I'm not mistaken.

Defensively we are find. As far as keepers, we need to start worrying about the next guys b/c Dominguez and Banguera aren't getting younger. Ortiz, Piedra, and I hope maybe Gabriel Cevallos comes through.

No Leonel Nazareno ? What do you think about him you think he might be NT material in the future? Repetto benched Viteri for him. Kinda regret him starting that first game in Sudamericana vs Fluminense he miss judged that free kick. Few mistakes but thats cause he young. He the youngest GK starting in Seria A and I see him improving as he goes.

GK I would keep eyes on:
Ayrton Morales: He is currently Emelec 2nd GK. He did a great job when Dreer was away on the NT. I think he has great potential. He was one of BSC future prospects and left due to no playing time (Competing vs Lanza and Mendoza for 2nd place). I think he has potential I hope when Dreer gets older they project him as there main GK and dont sign a foreigner. I see good potential in him.

Javier Nazareno: I fell like I had to name because of the games he played with IDV in 2016 when Azcona was playing Copa and NT. He was a great 2nd GK for them and instead of going with Lemos he got to start. Did a great job he 21 year old and is in Espoli now. Not sure why IDV let him go I hope he is on loan but they signed Recalde. Im still going to follow him and hope he returns to Seria A. This kid caught my attention.

Gonzalo Valle: 21 years old and plays for GYQ City. Played a few games when Frascarelli was injured I think. I think he is worth mentioning to. Did pretty good.

There probably a tone more in Seria B and Segunda Categoria. I think teams need to stop relaying so much on foreigners for GK. Look at Ortiz he came from Seria B and was second to Rolando Ramirez and other GK in Delfin for a while. Now he one of the best in Seria A.

Leonel Nazareno is far from the level that Dominguez had at age 23. When Dominguez was 23 he was a better keeper than Nazareno and had much more international exposure and experience winning campeonatos and international cups. Nazareno is far, VERY far, from that. The last two great young keepers I saw in campeonato Serie A are Dominguez and Banguera and til this day I haven't seen any in the last decade. Piedra is ok, nothing spectacular. Ortiz isn't so young he's 27. When we speak about the NT, we don't want average joes b/c we won't go anywhere with that. We need something just as good or better than what we currently have. That's why my outlook is quite pessimistic for the next decade. I don't see players that "wow" me anymore. I really don't. What I do see is a lot of interesting center attacking mids which ironically we didn't have for a LONG time b/c all we were producing is wingers. Now, we don't have almost any wingers that are top quality on the come up. Another funny thing- we complained so much about center backs. For once, we have several good center backs. I'd say Ecuador's defensive line has the best quality I've ever seen in years. Maybe not collectively on the NT, but individually the guys we have in the back are good. Problem is we haven't seen their max potential b/c we haven't had a coach to nuke their potential out collectively on the NT. That, and the fact that although lots of these players are good, they don't seem to maintain the same level back to back every year. One year player X does well, another year player Y does well. Reminds me of Colombia in the first decade of the 2000's. Great defense, just didn't have top quality in the other sections of the field.

And going off topic...What's weird is that at club level, we are much better now as a campeonato than we were last year. This year has been THE BEST campeonato of this decade almost on par with 2010 (if we count that one as part of this decade). And what's so weird about it? This should mean we're producing top quality players for the NT, but I beg to differ. There's actually not much of that. If I look at BSC, I don't see any player on there besides Xavier Arreaga, Pedro Velasco, Dario Aimar (on his good days), and Mario Pineida (when healthy) with potential to be NT material (coincidentally ALL defenders lol). Marcos Caicedo has lately become inconsistent....at least in the cameponato. Then when it comes to the rest of the attackers in BSC, none of the Ecuadorian guys are consistent. Esterilla, Castillo, Vera, Caicedo, even Aleman when he was there....none are consistent.

This shows how important management and good coaching is guys like Cevallos, Neme, Deller are running their teams great. And our league has some great club level coaches as well.

FEF is SH!T and we need a good NT coach not some club level coach to take a gamble on the NT. Some one proven at an international level.

There are a few factors that play into their inconsistency. Injuries and the fact that they get rotated around a lot and dont really hold a solid starting position. BSC has a lot of players in those attacking positions.

There is a big difference from Aleman in BSC and Estudiantes. If he didnt have his spark of good futbol in the game vs them in Libertadores he would still be an inconsistent player in BSC or loaned out to another team like Clan Juvenil or Cuenca.

I was kinda upset when Esterilla went to BSC cause he had offers to stay in mexico. I would have proffered he continued to develop there and play in there 1st division and if he fails or never debuts then go to BSC. He also had offers to go to, Millionarios, Atlético Nacional, Atlas and other MX teams. Which I think he should have taken if he wanted to improve as a player and seek more playing time. He could have gone there and returned to BSC as a better player.

According to a FEF post on Facebook Cazares has 18 assists. How do you transfer club form to the NT or he wasn’t given many chances?

Goalkeepers have the longest careers in fútbol. You didn’t see Buffon vs Caicedo a couple weeks ago? That was a great save from a 40 year old GK. 5 years from now they might keep going strong or retired but Dominguez and Banguera still have some gas in them.

Very true, they still got another decade of futbol if they maintain themselves in top shape, but at this point we should at least see one keeper coming up. At least one young 20 year old at this point. I don't see one. That's where I'm going with this. There's a lack of good talent at youth level lately in several position: Keeper, Wings, Center-Mid. I'd like to see how Tin Angulo turns out next season b/c these last 6 months were his re-introduction and warm up round. Then there's Bryan Angulo from Emelec and Jordy Caicedo from U. Catolica seems interesting. Miguel Parrales and Bryan De Jesus seem interesting from El Nacional, but to a lesser degree. Same with Estrada who seems to have dropped his form, but he's still very young so there's time for these guys. There's a handful of talented attacking center midfielders. You have Sornoza, Wacho Vera, Juan Cazares, the not so disciplined Gabriel Cortez, and we'll have to see how this kid Josimar Quintero turns out. Cevallos Jr. can also play this position too. Our defense is fine, keepers are fine for now....but center mids to replace Noboa and hold it down to that degree? The only promising player I see is Jeghson Mendez from IDV. He looks like he'll turn out good, but we still gotta wait on him for a year or two. Other than that we'll have to knock on Carlos Gruezo's door and see if he overcame his fears.

Wow! Like you guys said his career is over. Can he appeal it? Why did it get extended? Crazy! Also, it’s too hard of a punishment too.

How did Paolo Guerrero get 1 year for the same offense? And they gave him an exception to play in the World ********ing Cup???

Yes what Angulo did was stupid but why ruin his life? I’ve never heard of such a drastic ban, especially since it’s not a performance enhancing drug. 4 years ended his career, period. A 1-year punishment is harsh enough, 2 years is drastic. He must have screwed somebody’s sister!

I'm fascinated to see what's coming down the chute for this next NT cycle.

    Who will Cruyff call up?

Can Felipao actually turn into a real-time closer for us like he is w/ Lazio? Maybe puts up 20 mins of closing action and is deadly in the box?

    Will Toño step up again?

Will Cazares finally get the call up he deserves? That kid is so creative.

There a good talent pool TBH. Celico is doing a great job with the U-23/20 teams. If Cruyff properly promotes them and manages the team well he will do great. I posted on the other forum the players I think he should be looking into and what the call ups should be IMO.

If Felipao comes back that would be nice but he has yet expressed any desire to return to the NT. He was asked not to long ago if he would return he said his cycle is done and he will remain retired from the NT.

Tono i think should still be called up but not start. I think he should be included for now only to bring his experience to the team. The fact that he can play multiple positions make him very useful. With a new coach an players I can see experience being an issue in some matches. Tono would be excellent to come off bench and fill in the RW, RB or even CM positions.

And as for Cazares its time we use him and time for him to really break into the team and shine on a NT level. I think Cruyff will make god use of the CAM we have. That includes Bolanos and Sornoza.
