Sometimes I think the posters on here contradict themselves. One minute people say "the local players aren't good enough we need a European team" yet we can't beat the likes or Peru or Venezuela and struggle to beat Ecuador, going a goal down and being on the rocks- three teams with almost entirely south american based players- and from inferior leagues than ours.

Then, you say you can't learn anything from European qualifiers... Its true many of them are easy, but the likes of Greece, Slovenia, Slovakia, Wales, or even Ireland have players in top flights in Europe, which according to many posters on here someone say playing for Burnley, should play over someone in Argentina... So which is it? Are the European qualifiers useless or are european based players better?

This and the best player other than Messi was a local based player...

I think the likes of Gibraltar, San Marino, Liechstenstein, Faroe Islands, Andorra, etc. are way, way below Peru, Ecuador, or Venezuela.

I believe that Ecuador/Peru will also be able to beat or match Greece, Slovenia, Slovakia, Wales, or Ireland --- especially at home. But that is just an opinion.

European Qualifying, though, is much, much easier than our qualifying - one because 3 or 4 teams are just cannon fodder, and two, because the travel/environmental/pitch conditions are so much easier.

That being said, I believe Belgium is a top, top team --- one of the dark horses for the World Cup. Hazard, Lukaku, De Bruyne, Mertens, Nandjolan (if they ever call him), Meunier, etc......they are stacked.

Their mid and forward line are exceptional; defense and mental strength might be issues for them.

As far as for us, I am of the opinion that we should call up our local players, because the standard is still pretty high for our league. The players need to fit as a team, rather than just have big names or names playing in the big leagues.

Enzo Perez, Nacho Fernandez, Ascacibar, Pity Martinez -- they can go in any league and play there.

Some don't pan out, like perhaps Kranevitter, but most of the top players in our league will easily make it in the top Euro leagues.

I noticed in Messi first goal, Benadetto actually played big part on that with one touch backheel.

Sampa probably pick him to have similar role as Lavezzi or Palacio. Not because of his goalscoring ability but to help pressing opponnent and making constant move to open up more space for Messi. As useless as Palacio was in NT , he helped to stole the ball that led to the goal against Switzerland. Lavezzi helped to setup and create space for Messi in the goal against Iran.

Icardi and Dybala will score soon or later before the WC and I'm very sure about that. Sampa will most likely pick at least one forward who will be use to press defender , tries to win the ball and constantly moving and create more space in final third for Messi and the other attackers.

Enzo played well not only in recent games but when he replaced Di Maria in 2014 WC. His performance against Belgium was particularly stood out.

Guys, Gibraltar has a population of under 35,000 people. I actually think it may be more prestigious to play for a decent college team in the US. To put it into perspective, Penn State has over 90,000 students, Ohio State over 60,000, UCLA over 40,000, etc. And these are mostly all students of athletic age too.

You can't even put Gibraltar in the same sentence as Peru, Ecuador, or even Venezuela and Bolivia in terms of quality. In these qualifiers Gibraltar lost all their games, scored 3 goals and received 47. (I'm surprised they even got 3 goals.)

Maybe not the place for this, but wow the FIFA rankings are a joke. If these rankings hold Poland (6) and Switzerland (7) will be top seeds, and France (8) and Spain (11) will miss out, since Russia will use up a seed.

They really need to switch to the Elo system, which is used in chess. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Football_Elo_Ratings

I thought Fifa has confirmed that France will be one of the top seeds.

Italy, Spain, Uruguay, Colombia, England, Peru, Mexico, Switzerland in Pot 2.

Croatia, Denmark, Iceland, Senegal, Iran, Tunisia, Costa Rica, and Egypt in Pot 3 -- *some countries still have to qualify.

Pot 4 -- Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Japan, Australia, Nigeria, Morocco, Serbia, Panama

I might be mistaken on this, though.

A hard group would be Argentina, Spain, Croatia, and Nigeria.

A potentially easy group would be Argentina, Switzerland, Iceland, Panama

Hmm, I knew they were going to go black but hopefully when it comes out it looks a bit better than this. This looks like a warmup shirt.

I think this is one of the best posts I've seen on here in years. Overall, yes, our qualifying is so much harder. I don't care about the altitude or climate, speaking just of players, this in south america are wayyyy better than those in Europe.... Look at Lanzini... He went to the middle east, then to the EPL and ran shit. He really did run things there...

But yes, some of these euro squads are not bad... Neither Ireland nor North Ireland would be a pushover... Imagine if Croatia goes through the playoffs... That is a serious team... Modric, Mandzukic, Rakatic... Imagine if Cristian Pulicic had understood where he came from and how his ancestors pronounce his name

I look at Pezzella, who went fromRiver, to Petis to Fiorentina and did the step up perfectly three times... He was mad for la Fiore.... @SupaMario don't you think la fiore needs an argentine of Italian descent with long blonde hair and a huge personality?! Pezzella for me is the guy, though I'd prefer him at River

I completely forgot about Mercado, he'd replace Pezzella.

I don't want Mascherano to be a starter but I guess his experience helps the team, maybe instead of Mammana.

Argentina never attack with authority like Germany or Brazil. Everytime they seemingly had a chance to score with counter , they'd decided to pass the ball backward or sideways over and over.

Even when Messi entered the box in the center, he decided to pass.

A bit boring, the game lack intensity. Barring a blunder, we probably win 1-0 at the end. The ball was on Mascherano every few secs lol. He almost looks like Maradona, distributing the ball to all his teammates.

Couple great chances for Kun. Didn't score but at least forced a save both times.

This is a significant improvement over the Bauza days. Lo Celso has maybe gotten a few passes wrong, but with him it finally seems like we have a midfield general directing traffic.

Aguero is playing well --- his run and shot were both splendid, as was his volley towards the end --- those sort of volleys are difficult to execute.

Messi again in his passing mode --- good pass to Di Maria for the Di Maria shot, but would rather just have Messi shot it.

I believe the urgency will be greater in an official game....friendlies really have become more and more nonsense, other than for teams trying out combinations and building some sort of harmony.

I am all for the Global Nations League.
