We may yet get through, but Sampaoli is by far the worst coach we've had during this run. Yes, Bauza was awful, but he mainly picked the same old players as before. Martino was also bad, but he introduced at least some new blood with the likes or Mercado- who has been one of the only bright spots.

Sampaoli has created a mix- he has kept many of the same muertos like Di Maria, Banega, Biglia, Mascherano, etc. but he has introduced new blood- but not the new blood any man with a brain would choose. He has called up muertos, adding to our misery with the likes of Papu Gomez and most of all Benedetto.

Why do some people want to be patient with sampaoli or give him time? What has he shown that gives any hope he can turn this around? I really can't believe the man. He's what we call in Argentina a smoke seller. He flies to Europe and shows videos and computers to Mascherano and Messi and has drones filming training like this is going to help win games. Professional football has been around since 1930 and no one ever needed a drone to understand tactics. Its honestly laughable.

Theres a coach in Argentina called Ariel Holan in Argentina who has an equally absurd obsession with drones and computers and hows the going for him? he's got them sitting 15th in the table. Bielsa in another coach who is obsessed with drones and competes and whatnot and he's got Lille in the relegation zone.

Benedetto is just so awful. To give some context to the brilliant meme above: he has gone scoreless in every meaningful game boca has played the past year racking up goals against the likes of Olimpo, Aldosivi, Quilmes, Defensa y Justicia... He has been goalless and been beyond terrible, beyond pathetic against Rosario Central two years in a row as Boca was eliminated by the rosarinos in the copa argentina. He was a disaster and also scoreless as boca was eliminated in the copa libertadores by independiente del valle. He was horrible and invisible as Boca lost 3-1 to River in La Bombonera in the Superclasico.

You guys complained about Higuain in finals? Well this guy is so bad he screws up long before reaching a final.

Who knows, maybe Benedetto will score and argentina will qualify, but its not likely.

 

Because we saw what he did with Chile, who had a significantly less talented crop of players.

The previous coach (Bauza) didn't have a clue about tactics or anything. All of the goals during his tenure came from individual moments from Messi.

Is Argentina a defensive team like Italy? A possession team like Spain? A high-pressing team like Germany? All these nations have an easily identifiable style of play. Argentina does not. It takes time to implement tactics and a basic philosophy in the team.

Right now the philosophy is "pass it to Messi and hope for the best". That kind of tactics will always fail when playing against teams that are brilliant as a unit (Germany, Spain).

 

I think the problem is that the past three coaches were trying to make their players adapt to their systems.

Sabella was probably the only guy who adapted a system based on the abilities of his players. He came in and saw four superstars that he needed to play together and based on that he created a system that would complement all involved.

Sampaoli is unfortunately repeating the mistakes of Tata/Bauza with bringing in his own system and forcing the players to adapt.

The creative part of coaching is very critical when constructing a championship calibar team.

 

Anyways...

We just need to win. I don't care if Little Bo Peep is in the starting 11, I just want us to secure a victory.

I am tired of seeing certain players but at this stage... oh well.

 

I am sad to see Benedetto, Di Maria, Banega on the team, with no sign of Paredes, Icardi, or Dybala.

I hate it that Sampaoli has put it in his head that Dybala and Messi cannot play together.

I can only pray to God that we get through....nothing more, nothing less. Just praying to God.

But RiverGaucho is right...I looked at Benedetto's resume, and I am left scratching my head on how he is our starting forward. Don't want to bash him, but it is a little mind-boggling.

World Cup hero Mario KEMPES was on a radio show and spoke about Argentina’s current situation and replied to Paulo DYBALA’s comments.

Mario KEMPES, World Cup winner and hero for Argentina in 1978, has come out and commented on Argentina’s current situation and problems. Speaking to Super Deportivo Radio ahead ofArgentina’s final World Cup Qualifier against Ecuador, KEMPES had this to say in regards to Paulo DYBALA’s comments about playing with MESSI (DYBALA’s comments are below). Here’s what he had to say:

Paulo DYBALA’s comments about playing with MESSI:
“What I’m going to say will be very weird: It’s a little difficult to play with MESSI in Argentina because we play the same position. It should be me who should adapt more and make him feel good on the pitch.”

Mario KEMPES on Argentina:
“There’s 90 minutes for SAMPAOLI to show that he’s the real savior because everyone said that he was the savior for Argentina. For me, what DYBALA said was great. IIt is very difficult to play beside MESSI and he who understood what he said is a fool.

“If there’s a player that has a psychological problem, it’s better he stays home with his family, that he trains with his club and he does himself a favor and his National Team.

“No one wants to step up and they give it to MESSI. A World Cup without Argentina and without Messi would be a catastrophe. The only ones who would be happy if MESSI doesn’t go to the World Cup would be MARADONA fans because that way they can keep saying that he’s the best.

“It appears as though the weight of the Argentina shirt is heavier than the club shirts.”

It appears Dybala himself has come out and said that he is not compatible with Messi.

Great...just great....what horrendous timing.

   Maradona fans, Messi fans?? whatever happened to ARGENTINA FANS???
   
   I am a diehard Maradona and Messi fan but an ARGENTINA fan above anything else football.
   Sports are supposed to be an escape from everyday life that brings you joy and happiness and heartache every now and then but this has impacted me personally and physically (I have no energy because i keep thinking about this).
   
   It is either I have to quit following my beloved ARGENTINA football and no need to worry about what the team does now or ever…….I am not quitting, in fact, I will NEVER quit my love for ARG, so these ...... better play the game of their lives, every single one of them and qualify for the WC because I am not gonna have my mind and heart broken by this ....!

      Agree Dfox1942. On 06 Oct itself evening, I was about to type that hey I’m surprised that I’m not so affected and managed to resume my life as per normal very quickly. Maybe because I’ve been conditioned to these recent falls. But I was wrong. Keep thinking about the past two games and how sore I was. How could Argentina miss the WC?! Just submitted leave for Wednesday morning to watch the game at home. Better be more fruitful than the 06 Oct………. sigh… butterflies in my stomach…
      
      

 

I really hope i am 100% wrong, but if that really is going to be the starting line up then we have no chance of winning this match. Also if we don't qualify then it is going to be the last time we will see Messi and Masch play for Argentina. And it will be heart breaking for it to end like this.

 

Its all depends on how team believes in it, if team believes they will choke, nothing can save us. If they are confident and play with their hearts, we will get through.

 

So we get another brazuca as a ref for this match? Anderson Daronco, who pretty much is a neanderthal.

 

I'm 99% certain we will not win this match but if ever there was a chance of beating Ecuador away this it (if you do not take into account how shit we are playing currently ); 5 straight losses, Antonio Valencia & Renato Ibarra suspended and a VERY inexperienced squad.

Is it just me or has Sampaoli done nothing at all to put his mark on this team tactically? Looks exactly the same as Bozo to me. That Colombia game at home was infinite times better than these last two games. Why put Acuña at left back when he was a monster second half at left wing against Venezuela? And still play the slow donkeys Biglia and Banega in midfield? Brings absolutely nothing to the table. Can't wait for Ascacibar to get a shot, his commitment alone makes him better than B & B. And Benedetto up front. Jesus christ...

 

The weather forecast looks quite dire; rain, rain, rain with a pinch of storm. Can see that being a huge advantage for Ecuador.

 

Seeing the back of Mascherano will be a massive blessing, he's been dreadful this campaign. If it weren't for his dreadful back pass against Peru, we'd be all but through to Russia. He was embarrassed time against against Brasil and Venezuela away and a few more dreadful performances.

 

Quite th opposite. Ecuador relies on speed and countering. The rain will slow down the game for them.
