So they took a case without merits?

Are you surprised? When they can charge THOUSANDS an hour and gain some notoriety from this, why not? They have literally nothing to lose.

The lawyers I know at this level wants to win more than make money, not that making money isn't high on their list, just that winning is higher. And you can't win a case that has no merit.
You of course are free to maintain your opinion, which I certainly won't confuse with facts.

Seriously...it's F*CKING KESSLER!!!! He took the Brady Deflatgate case, He took the USWNT's "case," etc...the guy is almost as bad as Gloria Allred when it comes to taking cases for publicity.

The ONLY reasons he took this case are:
    1. to get paid
    2. he has a personal vendetta against MLS/SUM

A few google searches on this topic, and the people involved will clue you in.

No offense man, but you really don't know what you're talking about with regard to lawyers. Just take the L here.

I used "all" because all the lawyers I have worked with have considered the merit of a case. context appropriate I thought.

For Andy I will amend my response to
"Enough to know many lawyers are not mercenaries."

Doesn't seem to change the conversation much.

Yes, with the same benevolent bigsoccer mods who will never change and nobody new will be added as a mod with no rotation of subforums a mod will be responsible for...

I have quite a bit to say about the NASL lawsuit and whether the NASL has a future.
But it is impossible to so on a site with the perpetual double standards this one has.

    Go figure.

So two of those guys are Silva and Rocco, whose the third? The guy from the Deltas? Can't be MLS because the chart is trending downwards and as we all see the only soccer league in the United States trending that way is NASL. They at least died for our soccer sins, right?

Iinexplicably, I hear NASL isn't on board with what Peter Wilt is trying to do with NISA. If that's the case, then I hope the NASL goes straight to soccer hell and the Cosmos go independent or whatever...

Rocco is killing the Cosmos if NASL doesn’t stay D2. He’s been threatening Cosmos fans all year with it. The dude couldn’t care less about the team and its fans.

This is exactly why I think they're all full of it. They could all just go into the NISA and regroup and become stronger but that's not happening and what will happen is either a sudden death if the judge refuses their injunction or a slow one if the judge gives it to them. Either way on their current course they fail IMO.

Dan I disagree. I think NISA is going to do what's best for NISA the same as the NASL is going to do the best for the NASL the same as MLS does what's best for themselves [ II teams in the USL is what's best for their II teams, nothing more].

No one knows yet if the NASL plays next year as a league or if the teams will disperse. Rocco says the Cosmos won't play in a D3 NASL or NISA; that doesn't mean there won"t be one; we don't know. Maybe it takes a year without NISA or NASL to put things together. This off season might just be more surprising than last; we'll see.

I agree that we don't know what will really happen; much of this is posturing. But I do think the NASL owners are being short sighted. The NISA may want to do what's best for them and the NASL for the NASL, but the situation is that they would be much stronger if they worked together. They need to determine what is best for them collectively, not what is best for them individually.

Some people dislike MLS because they work collectively, and indeed it was/is a core value of the league, but you can see the value of their approach when compared with the disfunction of everyone being out for their own.

Rocco did buy the Cosmos on the condition of D2 status.
To have it revoked after a single season would make any owner (in any league) disgusted.

I agree they're all full of it, but may disagree on why.

I believe the original split from USL was the wrong decision (remember Jeff Cooper/AC St Louis?) made for the right reasons. The new NASL really had a pretty good thing going trying to be the strongest D2 they could be... why even mention "competing" with MLS as soccer's version of the ABA or AFL when you have fewer than a dozen franchises? I never understood why relatively benign affiliations with MLS teams would be looked upon by the Cosmos as a threat and a deal breaker. How much better off would the NASL be in 2017 if they'd simply allowed clubs that wanted to affiliate the option to take MLS's offer, leaving USL D3 with all those MLS "2" teams?

Problem is, at least in the minds of the NASL, they are now competing with Wilt's NISA to expand to some of the same markets (Detroit, anyone?)... but why does that necessarily have to be a bad thing?

This is where Peter Wilt's approach to make presentations to both the NASL and NPSL this year makes some shrewd sense... maybe some owners would be more comfortable in NISA's new D3 (at least to start out) than the NASL's D2 or vice versa. NISA needs an alternative D2 to USL, and good god, SF Deltas would probably be far better off in the short term to cut their budget and join NISA next year. Teams in USL have bounced around financially on a pretty regular basis-- I'm looking at you, Austin.

NASL/NISA/NPSL need a more independent yet still connected version of what the USL has offered with USL1, USL2 and PDL...

I wish all of them the best of luck... because they surely will need it.
Less stratification and more bridges, please.

Not the type of owner you want to have owning teams though. Especially since you’re fighting for pro/rel. Can’t be having owners that will close up shop if they get relegated.

You sure wouldn't want to buy into a team or league with the belief that you'd be at one level, only to have someone come along and institute a system that could see you sent to another level based on, like, losing or something.

Oh, wait, no, those MLS guys have to be punished. My bad.

I read the Gazzetta Dello Sport from Italy this morning as Andrea Pirlo announced his retirement from the game. He also weighed in on the relegation/promotion. He stated Silva's fight against the USSF was good for the game in America because MLS and US Soccer as a rule will never be on the level of the top Euro teams or Real Madrid for example. I agree pro/rel would definitely help the game technically and tactically on one end but it could also kill the leagues as we know it on the other.

As for the fight against the federation, I don't see how it would hold up in the Supreme Court. Whether FIFA wants to impose sanctions is a different story but I doubt they could legally do that by international laws either. In the end, its most likley a losing fight.
