So now we know who the mystery "Dest" is who has been recently playing for US U-17. It's Sergino "Serginho" Dest, a '00 right back and right winger with Ajax U-17. Transfermarkt says he was born in Almere, so he may be American through parentage. He has a previous call-up to Oranje U-15 and was previously with Almere City's academy. http://www.transfermarkt.com/sergino-dest/profil/spieler/361104 http://www.ajax.nl/teams/jeugdteams/o17/de-selectie.htm http://www.onsoranje.nl/nieuws/artikel/19072/selectie-onder-15-oefenduels-belgië?type=actueel 790639751493713920 is not a valid tweet id (Wearing #2, bottom far right next to Andrew Carleton) Credit to OWTY for the spot. Interview from about 5 years ago when he was named talent of the month for Almere City D2: http://www.almerecity.nl/teams/jeugdopleiding/talent-van-de-maand-sergino-dest
He's a young one: Born/age: Nov 3, 2000 (15) Looks like USSF snuck another one by us without BS have a clue. And at a big club, at that.
Here's a post on an Ajax fan forum from a parent whose son played with Sergino at Almere: http://www.ajaxfans.net/forum/viewtopic?id=389&p=20
I've always felt like there were a bunch of YAs in Holland that, for whatever reason, never get spotted. This doesn't exactly prove that, but it also doesn't put me off that theory!
OWTY/USAprospects agrees: have to think Hilton/Pynadath alerted the US Federation regarding Sergino— Joey (@USAprospects) October 24, 2016
Back with the U17s: http://www.topdrawersoccer.com/club...-mnt-roster-for-2016-nike-friendlies_aid41090
http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...inues-with-training-camp-at-atlanta-united-fc With the U17s for WC training camp.
Back with our U17s for a pre-WC training camp. Jaylin Lindsey has pretty well established himself as the team's top right back, but Dest could certainly vie to be his backup. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/201...worth-calls-in-23-ahead-of-fifa-u17-world-cup DEFENDERS (9): George Bello (Atlanta United FC, Douglasville, Ga.), Sergino Dest (Ajax; Almere-stad, Netherlands), Christopher Durkin (D.C. United; Glen Allen, Va.), Christopher Gloster (New York Red Bulls; Montclair, N.J.), Jaylin Lindsey (Sporting Kansas City; Charlotte, N.C.), James Sands (New York City FC; Rye, N.Y.), Tyler Shaver (New York City FC; Greenwich, Conn.), Akil Watts (Portland Timbers, Fort Wayne, Ind.)
Named to the final US roster for the U17 World Cup, where he will likely serve as backup to Lindsey. http://www.ussoccer.com/stories/2017/09/21/16/40/20170921-news-u17mnt-world-cup-roster-release DEFENDERS (6): Sergiño Dest (Ajax; Almere-stad, Netherlands), Christopher Gloster (New York Red Bulls; Montclair, N.J.), Jaylin Lindsey (Sporting Kansas City; Charlotte, N.C.), James Sands (New York City FC; Rye, N.Y.), Tyler Shaver (New York City FC; Greenwich, Conn.), Akil Watts (Portland Timbers, Fort Wayne, Ind.)
transfermarkt has him listed as Ajax U19 which, if this https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ajax_Youth_Academy is accurate, means Ajax A-1 so next steps would be Jong Ajax then first team is he stays with them? It's Ajax, somebody must know more about him.
He's the youngest player on Ajax's U-19 squad this season. Its a team with 99's and 00's, he's a late '00. He's only played 10 minutes in the first two games, but the starter at RB in the team is a '99 and seems to be a rather regular Dutch international, so a player a year younger would likely have a very hard time playing ahead of that guy.
Well he was called in to play for the US at the U17 World Cup. I'm willing to assume they know if he's eligible
I think the question is more though how? Like not if he is or not, but like is it a parent, and which parent?
Sounds like we may have to wait for the inevitable @bshredder interview to get the answer to that question.
Not a highlight video, to your point though it's not impressive film either. I was under the impression it was highlights too, thought someone was trolling him.
He played the first hour or so of the USA-Ghana U17 match that's currently under way, provisionally cap-tying him to us. I'm only paying about 2/3 attention, so I don't have much of a scouting report.
Dest was outstanding against very strong, fast, athletic Ghanaian attack. He had several excellent tackles and demonstrated some smarts, too, positioning himself to leave attackers nowhere to go but over the end line. I think it's fair to say everyone in the YNT thread thought he was excellent. To me, it wasnt just excellent like "he got the job done" excellent. He looked like a class player in the way he handled some tough situations. Extremely calm and confident. I went from "who the hell is this guy" to "Who the hell is this guy!?"
