Not really. He just scored the GW goal off of a corner iirc. I guess that could qualify as Brad Evans best game tho.
Chandler scares the hell out of me back there. Jamaica can be lethal on the counter, and Chandler's Opta passing stats are redder than a Quentin Tarantino film.
I would rather have Tim Chandler's smack my head moments along with his ability to get forward than Brad Evans stay at home and don't embarrass us quality. The American soccer media apparently prefers the latter. But if you want to compete against real teams, you have to have guys that can get forward and contribute and still have the athleticism to get back. If, say, Desevio Payne wins the job over the next few months, I'm not going to cry because Tim Chandler isn't getting playing time. Until then, Chandler remains our best, if flawed, option.
I would prefer Klinsmann gives Yedlin a run at RB, he theoretically offers something in the attack with his pace and overlapping runs, and I'm not sure there is much, if any, drop off between him and Chandler defensively.
Frankfurt coach doesnt want Chandler to accept callups, he may just get his wish to have him all to himself: http://prosoccertalk.nbcsports.com/...to-usmnt-call-ups/?ocid=Yahoo&partner=ya5nbcs
Chandler will keep getting calls and his club coach will deal with it. Chandler just needs to show he's the best RB option on his club team and the coach will have no option but to play him. If he benchs him for a weaker player that potential costs wins to the team he won't last long there. I'm sure the club doesn't share the same sentiment as Chandler playing international soccer raises his profile and thus his transfer value.
TC answers back and says if the USMNT calls he will come! http://www.espnfc.us/german-bundesl...ndler-rejects-coachs-suggestion-to-quit-usmnt IIRC the same thing happened while he was with Nurnberg which TC said led to his issues over earlier callups. He is older and more established now and seems to be more comfortable putting his foot down.
I find this to be the most ridiculous part of how Arena is conducting the NT. This guy is like our second best player, on club form. How the coach neglects calling him up is baffling to me. I don't care about scattered poor play (of only like 25 games of minutes), we struggle to put talented players on the field. Chandler is one of the best full-backs in one of the best leagues in the world. We are putting Graham Zusi, Eric Lichaj, Jorge Villafana, etc out there, yet no one would begin to claim any of those players are in the same stratosphere of player as Chandler. Chandler needs another chance. If Bradley, Johnson, Brooks, Wood are given all this leeway to play as poor as they want for long stretches, so should Chandler. And this shouldn't be one or two games. You give the guy the same chance you are giving those other players. What has he done to not deserve that chance as much as those others?
Johnson has pulled himself out of matches. Also, I really couldn't care less. If he's willing to play for the NT, I don't care about his shaky commitment to the team years ago. He makes the team better and he's willing to play for us, thats good enough, IMO.
I don't think either guy should be in the player pool; their attitudes are trash and performances for the NT subpar.
I think you gotta straddle some line here. I want these guys in the squad as options. If others outplay them, they play smaller roles, but I just don't see any justification for mediocre players who will never been good at any high level being in the squad instead of actual quality players that will help our squad, even if its not from the start. We can criticize their performance, but is it poor in relation to Zusi or Villafana or someone like that? I don't think it is.
Could it be that Arena left him off this roster because he recalled how Chandler looked the last time he played in Honduras (Hex for 2014 WC)? The guy completely wilted in the heat and mid-day sun.
Considering last round of WCQ Bruce called in basically 2 teams of players and used them both then I don't see that as an excuse. We clearly could've used Chandler last night.
The aggregate of his performances have been subpar and he quit on his team in AET of a cup final. If that isn't a trash attitude then I don't know what to tell you.
Chandler hasn't been great in his call ups and FJ is not too good currently. I'm not calling either of them up in the near future. If FJ left camp today and retired internationally, would anyone shed a tear after that performance on Friday? Auf wiedersehen.
