Google maps shows that theres a PATH station closer to the stadium so I guess you can take the PATH and get off there for a shorter walk.
I'm looking at buying "Verified Resale Tickets" on ticketmaster. Anyone know which sections will be full of Tico fans? Trying to avoid those...
Well for reb bulls games away fans are usually in 220 or 221. No idea if that holds for this, but probably best to avoid those.
Thanks. Ticketmaster actually lists 220 as the Visitor Section, so that may be right (or that may just be default information for the venue).
I wouldn't be surprised if that's it. Thing is rarely are there huge away sections. Usually there will be a small group but the rest are dispersed because they buy their tickets like everyone else not through the Costa Rican fed
can anyone grab an extra poster from the AO tailgate or NB4 party? I'm coming in with my 7 year old and not sure if we will make it to the tailgate. I'll gladly pay postage to mail it to me. thanks
Tickets and US Soccer say 6:30 kickoff but on espnfc under SCORES, it says 6:55 PM. Assuming TV/intros/anthems start at 6:30 actually?
Looking forward to see you, buddy. I don't know how many bald dudes in Brek Shea U.S. jerseys will be at Riverside Park, but I look forward to meeting any others there might be. And I'd love to say hello to any old friends who may be lurking about, as well as longtime correspondents I've never met.
TV coverage starts at 6:30. U.S. Soccer does that with kickoff times. http://www.ussoccer.com/matches/mnt/2017/20170701-mnt-vs-ghana is about the July 1 win over Ghana, with the left side of the page saying it started at 4:45 and the main part saying 5:00.
@Real Corona and @hoboken16 see you guys in a few hours at the Sammers tailgate. @Dave Marino-Nachison I'll have my big bowling ball US flag helmet again, love to grab a beer with you and discuss 4th division Vietnamese YA's.
Thank you again for this. Smooth as can be in and out. Think this'll be my new go-to way to get to NYC.
Here's my cathartic post game report: PREGAME: I didn't make it to the AO one but from the pics it looked good. I went to Sammers tailgate since it was steps from hotel and I was sitting in their section. Small in numbers but really good pregame vibe. Great to see so many familiar faces from Azteca and recent trips. STADIUM: first time at RBA, top class facility for soccer. Field looked perfect, fans right up to the field, sound was great. As always, bathroom and beer lines were ridiculous. No beer vendors, which would have eased the concession lines. Overall stadium-wise, top notch. Newark airport close by and a Marriott family hotel steps away is a recipe for greatness in my opinion. SUPPORTERS: It's been a while since I've seen that good of atmosphere from the supporters. Granted, I was in Sect 105 with the Sammers. Great drums and 105 was totally dominating for all 90, and notably at the final whistle still going strong. It made for an amazing experience. AO sections were packed and looked great, but those 2 capos seemed to be really struggling with keeping up with the Sammers. A few chants were coordinated but that is logistically very tough to do. Sammers works in the east coast, and NYC especially, and not sure that vibe by them can be recreated many other places. Curious as to how it sounded outside of 105. Tons of Costa Rica fans but honestly didn't hear them outside of the goals and the ole at the end. Perfect weather and a great atmosphere, one of the better home supporters experiences I've had in a while.
To be honest, outside of 105 it was bad. Really bad. Don't want to start arguments but I spent some time in 105 and some time outside and it was night and day. Didn't get much volume, variety or singing in 102 and 101 but 105 was vibrant and lively. Just my perspective
We tried to coordinate with the AO section but there was a big gap so it was difficult to figure out what they were singing. By like minute 20 or whatever we just gave up and started doing our own thing. It wasn't like a conscientious rejection of AO, we just couldn't hear them and bottom 104 seemed to be just casual fans like the super weird guy with a Dez Bryant sign. Sammers have a strong presence in ESC, New England and DC supporters groups, so any east coast game is going to have a good showing, especially on a Friday. Naturally it gets tougher to replicate further away in places like Kansas City or whatever.
Capos needed some megaphones to get everybody on the same page. Our section, (131 I believe) was wanting to participate and sing but we couldn't hear half of the chants the Sammers were doing. I didn't hear the Tico fans until the goals. I don't understand why the media blames the venue choice, I thought it was fantastic as well. Tico fans were silent the first 30 minutes.
If we'd have managed to score I'm sure we would have been even louder. Obviously fans are going to be louder when you're scoring. That's just natural.
Funny note- we were in 130. Couldn't make out the chants from the Sammers but could def hear the drum. I was clapping along to it and someone yelled to me "stop clapping they are Costa Rica fans". Note 2- if it's GA, then ticketmaster needs to stop putting seat numbers on the tickets. Witnessed MANY pissed off people looking for their front row (also second and third row) seats close to game time.
Back at work Ended up walking from our hotel(Best Western Robert Treat) to the grounds and back. Quick walk and thankfully was pretty cool out. Fun trip minus the result of course. The best thing of these trips is always meeting other people and hearing their stories. The AO tailgate was great as always. Ended up missing the march to the stadium to spend more time in the park socializing. Went to a nice Portuguese restaurant a block or two away from the park to grab some brews and a quick meal before we got to the tailgate. Not much happening in Harrison but we did find that gem. The atmosphere in RBA was electric and had the US scored you would have heard the crowd in times square. I'm sure they won't but I'd love another qualifier in Red Bull Arena. Top class arena, easy to get to and until the Ticos scored the place was live.
